The first crop of reviews for the next Super Sentai series, Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger, are beginning to roll in. First up – check out the video review of the highly anticipated (for a variety of reasons) DX ZyuOhKing, the main Megazord of this new series!
Featuring a few “firsts” for Bandai Japan – this Megazord does not seem to have any electronics and is significantly smaller to previous DX Mecha released. Is this part of Bandai Japan‘s new vision – to once again make toys easier to import to the United States (as seen with Ninninger‘s Power Rangers styled 5 inch figures)? Time will tell! Let us know what you think of the video review in the discussion thread!

It begins!

Wow, not only is it disappointing, it's also the runt of the litter!
This line better get good fast.

I always look for "possible hidden features" for future expansion on the mech.
There doesn't appear to be any at all on this thing.
This screams "cost cutting" in the worst possible way. I mean, toys from 20 years have more play pattern and capabilities than this does ... it is literally three blocks on top of each other with articulation that make G1 Transformers look Godly in comparison (and those are 30 years old).
Let's at least hope the show is amazing. But I'm not sold on the merchandise at all. Maybe in the clearance bin later.

Looks awful. Not even speaking from an aesthetic standpoint - it's a horrible toy. The individual animal modes suck big time, and you can only stack those cubes in one order and then hurray, arms!
I can’t really compare this to much since Sentai isn’t my cup of tea to begin with, but I did watch a video review of Shurikenjin when he came out and that one looked like a fun toy at least.
This looks like trash.

To be clear, I'm glad TokuNation posted this review.
With that said: WOW, I'm grateful that I didn't pre-order this. From the side and back, it just looks awful. By itself, it's a pony with a single not-great trick.
I don't mind the relatively small size (not everyone has enough space for Bragigas or Ha-Oh Shurikenjin), and I can imagine some potential there for future combinations, given the visible, unused tabs and clips. Whether I'll enjoy those combinations probably hinges on whether they abandon the uni-leg.
I'm curious to see what, if anything, Super Sentai Artisan does with Zyuohger. (I don't have a clear idea about how Shinobimaru and Rodeomaru sold.) My suspicion is that Zyuoh King just can't be salvaged for the adult collector market.

I like how the top of his Sword is the head. I like the zords 90%.

Well I'm sold.
Some may not be sold (if you liked ToQOh then you have no grounds to bash this as ToQOh was simpler despite being five trains) but I like this.
Mainly due to Minecraft influences. I'll need to figure out how to skin this in Minecraft now!

You know, if the lion's knee guards flipped up, or the shark...Did anything when the skewer is inserted, I could at least understand the gimmick.
But it's literally just the eagle that does anything (Granted, I've known this when the toy was demoed at some kind of event).
It doesn't feel like the gimmick is necessary to inhibit all 3/5 toys when only one actually, truly interacts with it.
The video also tried to do something I probably could've enjoyed. If the cubes could transform in different stacking orders, then maybe I could feel some justification with it's gimmick. But as it stands here, I just can't look at it without feeling a large amount of disappointment. Inhibit 2/3rd's of the mecha just to have flip out arms? Nah.

So happy ZyuohKing is back in that scale. I hated how tall the mecha were getting especially after adding multiple other parts to it. My favorite gattai to this point is Ultimate Daibouken because of that very issue. I'm hoping this Zyuoh Cube system is just as cool.
Im still leaning toward the minipla strictly for articulation, but there is something really charming about the DX version as well.
