SDCC 2015: Interview with Tamashii Nations

Posted on July 9, 2015 at 3:27 am by Sentai Tamashii under Conventions, Kamen Rider, Power Rangers, San Diego Comic Con, Super Sentai, Ultraman

Our very own Kickback is back! This time he interviewed Adam Newman from Tamashii Nations, who was at the Bluefin booth.  From the interview, Adam talked about the state of the market when it comes to Figuarts, from Sentai/Power Ranger to Kamen Riders, and Anime in general.

Tamashii Nations USA is taking a break from anything Power Rangers related for SDCC, in fact, while MMPR related product sold very well (Figuarts White Ranger was their best ever), Figuarts that aren’t MMPR didn’t do so well.  For example, the Figuarts Zero MMPR Red Ranger is being shelved because Tamashii Nations is less than satisfied with how the Figuarts Zero MMPR Green Ranger performed.

The overall state of Figuarts is doing very well however, in fact, the Figuarts market; when it comes to Kamen Rider and Anime properties, are growing so fast that Tamashii Nations had to restrategize so they can keep up with the demands.  Kamen Rider is doing so well that any past or new Kamen Rider characters has a chance to be made.  As for Sentai, if Ninninger can gain enough popularity, it’s entirely possible for Tamashii Nations to consider making the Figuarts as well.

When it comes to Power Ranger news, Tamashii Nations said that repackaging Kyoryuger Figuarts into Dino Charge is entirely possible, something for them to consider.  Tamashii also has interests to partner up with Saban Brands and Bandai of America to do something MMPR Movie related, but it would have to depend on how the movie progresses.

Now for a bit of good news: While Kamen Rider Gaim Figuarts aren’t currently being displayed at SDCC 2015, it is still being distributed by BlueFin, so look forward to that at your favorite retail outlet.  Also a nice tidbit for Dragon Ball fans out there, apparently the new reissue of Dragon Ball Figuarts will come with updated parts, such as hands and possibly faces, be sure to collect them all

Stay tuned as TokuNation brings you more update, pictures, and interviews from SDCC 2015,

    Great interview.

I'm sad that some fans can't decide on anything after MMPR because I'd love to see stuff from In Space, Time Force, Lightspeed Rescue, Dino Thunder, Lost Galaxy and such like that.

I am glad that the Kamen Rider and Anime figuarts are doing so well/This is probably how freaking Kivala got a shot at her Figuart.

I guess we'll just have to wait longer for some Sentai & PR figuarts action for now.

Really crossing my fingers for them to release the Kyoryuger Figuarts over here.

Also, even though I don't care for the how that much, I'm down with some Ninninger Figuarts.

    Agreed.

I really hope we do get the Dino Charge figures though. I need that Kyoryu Green in any form.

Good to see that Kamen Rider figuarts are doing well in the states. Dino Charge/Kyroyuger figuarts would be cool, but I won't hold my breath if they don't get release here in the US. The other team members are web exclusives, they may have to do repaints of them in order to reissue them similar to SHF Trunks and Vegeta.

Too much to hope anyone asked about Pokemon?

The Rider news is nice. I do hope they keep bringing over whatever they can there.

I'm even more interested in the new DBZ reissue Figuarts if they're coming with more and/or different stuff (normal hair for Vegeta? Yeah right..). Gotta suck to be a completionist though heh.

I'm a little confused. You say the full interview is below, but you only gave a summary of the interview. Is there a link I am missing?

Anyway, nothing new here about the Sentai line being shelved for now, but it still sucks. The least they could do is at least finish Jetman, Boukenger, and Dairanger. Hell, at least do the other three male Dairangers since the only thing new they would need tooling wise is the head.

Kamen Rider is... confusing. Do they just mean they are able to do Gaim now? Because there hasn't been any indication of anyone else being reissued (and when is Gaim reissue coming out?).

The Dragon Ball stuff is cool, but I want release dates for Beerus Jaco, and Boo.
