Inferno Girl Red Book 2 Kickstarter – 8 Days to Go!

Posted on September 13, 2023 at 11:00 am by Chris under Radiant Black

There’s been a lot of discourse over the last couple days regarding “mainstream popularity” and “tokusatsu”, with the implication being inferred that in order to achieve mainstream popularity a property needs to drop the elements of tokusatsu.  We’re happy to report that is not the case and the best example of that is the Massive-verse, a series of creator owned comic books inspired by tokusatsu from Image Comics and written by some of your favorite Power Rangers creators (Kyle Higgins, Ryan Parrott, Melissa Flores, and Mat Groom).

One of those properties – Inferno Girl Red – currently has a live Kickstarter to fund it’s second graphic novel!  Of all the comic books in the Massive-verse, Inferno Girl Red is easily the most tokusatsu-inspired of them all, from the look of the character to how the character activates their powers.

You only have 8 days left to back this project – and it still needs a rally to happen!

Click here to back Inferno Girl Red Book 2!

Inferno Girl Red Book 2 is brought to you by Mat Groom (writer) and Erica D’Urso (artist), with Igor Monti (colors), Becca Carey (letters), Kyle Higgins (editor), and Michael Busutill (magic comic book genie).  Fans who missed the first book can add the first book as an add-on, as well as a number of fantastic art prints, a pin, and so much more!

Posted on July 23, 2023 at 9:30 am by Chris under Radiant Black, San Diego Comic Con

The panel for the Massive-verse series of books from Image Comics had quite an eventful time at San Diego Comic Con 2023.  The final announcement from the panel was that Massive-verse and Solis Studios had partnered to create a fighting card game powered by the Pocket Paragon system.  The game features 8 playable characters – Radiant Black, 001, Rogue Sun, Cataclysm, The Dead Lucky, Pyre, Inferno Girl Red, and The Griffin.  Each character deck features art pulled directly from the comics with famed artist Dan Mora (Teenage Mutan Ninja Turtles x Power Rangers, Go Go Power Rangers) providing the character card art.

Stay tuned for the upcoming Kickstarter campaign to fund this card game!

Inferno Girl Red Releases for Kickstarter Backers

Posted on November 9, 2022 at 8:08 am by Chris under Radiant Black

It has been a long 19 months for those of us eagerly waiting to see Inferno Girl Red (written by Mat Groom, drawn by Erica D’Urso, colored by Igor Monti, letters by Becca Carey, with Kyle Higgins as editor) but for backers of the Kickstarter – that wait is now over!

The digital copy of Inferno Girl Red was sent to Kickstarter backers yesterday.

Inferno Girl Red is Cássia – a young woman who, with the help of a magical bracelet, is able to transform in to Inferno Girl Red to fight off all things bad and evil!  Appearing in the back of Radiant Black Issue 01 as a teaser, then later in Massive-verse Issue 01, fans of that universe have been patiently waiting to learn her backstory.

Stay tuned for our spoiler-free review later this week!

Fans of Inferno Girl Red who missed the Kickstarter will be able to pick up the graphic novel on June 13th 2023.

Radiant Black x Lockport – a Pre-C2E2 Experience Review

Posted on August 24, 2022 at 2:00 pm by Chris under Conventions, Other Conventions, Radiant Black

Longtime friend of the site and contributor Eric Berry (@trekkieb47) was fortunate enough to attend the Radiant Black pre-event at this year’s C2E2 in Chicago, Illinois.  The following is his review of the experience of meeting the team behind the Massive-verse – Kyle Higgins, Ryan Parrott, Mat Groom, Melissa Flores, and more!

NOTE:  Attendees at this year’s Power Morphicon will have an opportunity to meet Kyle Higgins, Ryan Parrott, and Melissa Flores!  Be sure to attend the Massive-verse at Morphicon panel on Saturday, August 27th at 2pm!  Full schedule here.

C2E2 is the essential convention experience in the midwest and, every year since 2010, C2E2 has delivered some of the best entertainment guests and comic creators from around the world.

To match that hype, Kyle Higgins of Black Market Narrative announced the “Radiant Black X Lockport” event through the Black Market News Substack (https://kyledhiggins.substack.com/) back in June. If you’re not subscribed, definitely check it out as soon as possible so you don’t miss any news!

But why Lockport, Illinois? Lockport is a smaller city 30 miles southwest of Chicago, near Joliet. It’s where writer Kyle Higgins is from and is the setting for his Massive-Verse series, Radiant Black. In Issue 1, we meet Nathan Burnett, a down on his luck writer that’s in debt and has to move back in with his parents in, you guessed it… Lockport, Illinois.

SDCC 2022 – Radiant Black Massive-verse Panel Recap

Posted on July 23, 2022 at 2:23 pm by Chris under Conventions, Radiant Black, San Diego Comic Con

The Massive-verse, made up of Image Comics properties Radiant Black (Kyle Higgins), Rogue Sun (Ryan Parrott), Inferno Girl Red (Mat Groom), and The Dead Lucky (Melissa Flores), held their first panel at this year’s San Diego Comic Con 2022.  The panel also featured Cherish Chen (Radiant Red mini-series).  Check out all the details below thanks to Comic Book Keepers (@CBKcast) on Twitter for the details and images!

  • The Empire (the deep space aliens we saw previously during a Radiant Pink teleport mishap) are about to strike back
  • Radiant Black #18 features the premiere of Radiant Yellow (Wendell) and will feature four stories in one – reading the comic in different ways – which go in line with his power of being able to see multiple outcomes to situations (in order to choose the best one)
  • The Catalyst War – a Massive-verse event – is coming soon…
  • Rogue Sun current story arc ends in Issue #6
  • Rogue Sun Issue #7 is a “Choose Your Own Adventure” issue
  • A new villain based on time debuts “Ornate”
  • Rogue Sun Issue #8 takes us back to High School (think “Go Go Power Rangers” comic) and features a new villain named “Hellbent”
  • Preview for Rogue Sun Issue #9 gives us the hint that Dylan is going to have a real rough time
  • Radiant Red concludes with Issue #6 and gets wild
  • Inferno Girl Red preview – 120 page graphic novel!
  • Introduction to The Dead Lucky, created by Melissa Flores
  • The Dead Lucky is Bibiana, a half-Latina half-Asian woman, of which The Dead Lucky represents both cultures in terms of how those cultures honor the dead
  • Radiant Pink series announced
  • Written by Meghan Camarena featuring artwork by Emma Kubert
  • Introduces Radiant Pink’s love interest Kelly, and their relationship is the heart of the series
  • Super Massive 2 was announced

The Massive-verse looks to become even MORE massive!

The creators of all the heroes in the Massive-verse have something in common – they’ve all worked on Power Rangers at some point in their careers!  These new heroes have some tokusatsu inspiration in them, one main trait being that these heroes all “transform” (whereas your traditional comic book superheroes just have their suits on under their regular clothes).  Now is a great time to catch up with the Massive-verse and all of their titles!

Melissa Flores to Take Over Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Comic with Issue 101

Posted on July 21, 2022 at 5:55 pm by Chris under Power Rangers, Radiant Black

It’s a homecoming in so many ways.

Melissa Flores, former Director of Development for Power Rangers at Hasbro, as well as Producer on the Power Rangers Beast Morphers television show, and other creative and production related titles with Saban Brands, is returning to the Power Rangers brand as the writer for the BOOM! Studios comic book.  The comic – which has been split in to two titles currently (Mighty Morphin and Power Rangers) has been written by Mathew Groom and Ryan Parrott respectively – will return to a single title (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) with Issue 101.

Melissa is popular within the fan community for her interaction with fans at conventions and her online presence.  She was unceremoniously laid off by Hasbro a few years back.

She has partnered with both Ryan Parrott and Mathew Groom – as well as former Mighty Morphin Power Rangers writer Kyle Higgins – to start her own creator-owned comic book called “The Dead Lucky” which releases on August 3rd.  Be sure to check it out!

Inferno Girl Red – Kickstarter Now Active – Help Fund This Book!

Posted on March 30, 2021 at 1:51 pm by Chris under General Tokusatsu News, Radiant Black

The first time we met Cássia Costa was in the back pages of the first issue of Radiant Black.  Since then, we have seen various images and teases about an upcoming Kickstarter project.  Today, that project is now live!

Inferno Girl Red is a tokusatsu and superhero inspired comic book written by Mat Groom (SELF/MADE, ULTRAMAN), drawn by Erica D’Urso (JAMES BOND, XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS, THE LIFE OF CAPTAIN MARVEL), colored by Igor Monti (MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS, MEGA MAN: FULLY CHARGED), lettered by Becca Carey (WONDER WOMAN, BATGIRL, HARLEY QUINN, RADIANT BLACK), and edited by toku-famed writer Kyle Higgins (MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS, RADIANT BLACK, NIGHTWING, THE WINTER SOLDIER, ULTRAMAN).

The story follows Cássia Costa is as follows:

An ancient cult and their army of demons have stolen Cássia’s home, Apex City.  When a magical dragon bracelet rockets into her life and affixes itself to her arm, Cássia’s the only person equipped to stop the cult from offering the entire city to their dark lord.

There’s just one catch…

The magical bracelet is powered by belief, and Cássia — an intensely pragmatic, rational girl – doesn’t have much to spare. She’ll have to find something to kindle her faith, though, and fast —because she has a secret legacy to live up to. Because her mother’s life is on the line. And because Apex City needs Inferno Girl Red.

There are a number of reward tiers giving you everything from a digital copy of the graphic novel, to appearing in the graphic novel itself, to receiving an actual piece of original artwork from artist Nicola Scott.

CLICK HERE AND BACK THIS KICKSTARTER PROJECT TODAY!

Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity to support yet another tokusatsu-inspired comic book creation from a big tokusatsu fan in Mat Groom (host of the Ranger Danger Podcast).  Included in our story are some of the art prints or covers from backing this project.  We encourage everyone to pledge their support and fund this project!
