Bandai Tamashii Nations continue their line of show-accurate Ultraman S.H. Figuarts figures with the announcement of the Ultraman Type A Suit! This figure is based on the character’s appearance in the first 13 episodes of the original series, sporting a slightly leaner build, more muted red accents and an alternate show-accurate head. Currently the figure’s only known accessory is a Specium Ray effect part, likely along with a number of alternate hands.
Ultraman Type A suit will be released in September, for the price of 5940 yen.

Here's one for the fans of show accuracy among us, an Ultraman Figuart based on the suit used in the first 13 episodes of the series.
September mass release figure, 5940 yen.

I was never a big fan of Ultraman. But at the same time, I was never a hater of it. But I have to say, I think the reason why I never liked it was because of the suites like this one. Just something about it never stuck with me. Also, the holes in the eyes so the actor could see out of it was kind of a....turn off? ALways made me think the character was cross-eyed.
But I digress. What I do like about this figure is that it is show accurate. So for all of your fans of the show, congrats for this figure!!

...Okay, but why though? Is deliberately highlighting the crappiness of the early suits something that Ultra fans actually want? Is this really a thing?

I appreciate accuracy, I do.
This? It looks like the face was melted. That's not accuracy I'm willing to pay for.
Cool for those that want it, for sure. I'm already quite "meh" on much of the SHF Ultras anyways, but this is one giant "yuck" for me. I saw the pics on Twitter and thought something was wrong with my eyes or monitor.

Personally, I kind of love the idea of making toys accurate to the janky-ass suits in the early days of these shows. I'd actually be very interested in a Kamen Rider one with the messed up helmets. Sounds like it'd be a fun figure.
Even tempted to get this considering it's a retail release, though I'm not that big an Ultraman fan.
LockonStratos says
Well, that was succinct answer. Although there is the nagging voice in the back of my head that says your just screwing with me...

Hm, I'm wondering how much of this is based on the original version of the Type A mask, or the recreation made for the Mebius movie.
Kiwami says
Show-accuracy gone wrong IMO. Why should I pay for something which looks inarguably shittier than the figure they already did last year?
I guess if one has really nostalgic feelings for this particular look, but even I as someone who's driven by nostalgia in my figure buying choices sometimes would rather settle on something that actually looks good. As opposed to this.
But hey, I would probably be tempted by a rendition of the original Kamen Rider 1 too even though I think the Shin Kamen Rider costume is vastly superior. Guess it's the same thing here for Ultraman fans.

I love Ultraman, but couldn't this be released as a head with a different figure? Like the "dead head" that came with Zoffy? I want a MonsterArts Gabadon with a type a head accessory!
Smozz says
I'm... impressed that this appears to be an entirely new mold.
