Now this could be excellent. Remember people, before you drop Evangelion or Shin Godzilla comparisons: Anno is of the opinion that if you adapt something you should modernize it while keeping its core elements alive. That's why Shin Godzilla is a modern catastrophe movie with a man-made monster destroying humanity while the government hilariously fails. The core elements are kept alive while the premise is updated.
If anything I expect him to go hard on the antifascist message of the original Kamen Rider, and I’m here for it.

I thought we were gonna get Shin's comeback for a second there
Oh well, I'm curious as to the direction this will take. I wasn't a big fan of The First, so hopefully this one will better appeal to me.

Anno's comment:
Fifty years ago, most of the boys in primary schools at that time were fascinated by the life-sized hero called Kamen Rider.
I was one of them.
I started this project because I wanted to repay the enormous benefits I received from the TV show 50 years ago in the form of a film 50 years later.
This project aims to create a film that fulfills the dreams of adults that have been with us since childhood and a film that depicts the dreams of children that remain with us even after we grow up.
We want to show the epoch-making world of the masks created by Shotaro Ishinomori and Toei Studio in a modern context.
We also aim to create an entertaining work that can be enjoyed by those who do not know the original film.
We will do our best to achieve this.
Also, due to changes in the production schedule caused by the Corona disaster, the film had to be postponed for two years.
CEO Akira Onodera's comment:
The history of riders is also the history of innovation.
"It doesn't matter what kind of Kamen Rider you have," said his father, Shotaro Ishinomori. The history of many riders who have been fighting for the freedom of mankind has finally reached 50 years.
On the other hand, my father was always keen on recreating the origins of Kamen Rider such as "True" and "Black".
Director Anno's "Shin Kamen Rider" is the latest work, but at the same time it is also the origin. These two mix again in the milestone year of 50 years.
Of course, I think it would be very nice for my father. I look forward to the director's challenge.

Suuuper excited for this. Anno has a good grasp on the core of toku properties like this and how to bring out the messages they hold. I'm really interested in his modern take on Shocker.
