Ultraman Max Added to Crunchyroll Streaming Services

Posted on October 10, 2014 at 3:02 pm by Paladin under Ultraman

One more unusual news item from New York Comic Con!

Digital media service Crunchyroll has picked up the 2005 Ultra series, Ultraman Max and will make the program available for streaming!

For newly interested fans, here is the story of Ultraman Max:

In the very first episode a strange visitor from space notices Toma’s bravery when the young man risks his own life to help save a lost little boy from danger. The alien gives Toma the power to become the mighty superhero Ultraman Max, a towering red and silver giant 40 meters tall. When two gigantic monsters threaten the world, Toma uses his new powers to destroy them.

Ultraman Max will be available beginning October 14!

So it looks like Cruchyroll plans on streaming Ultraman Max soon. Maybe this could lead up to possible Toku subs on Cruchyroll in the near future like Kamen Rider and Sentai. Only time will tell.

This is such a weird choice for streaming. I mean it's cool that it's available. But whats the draw to pay monthly for this when tons of people saw the fansubs of Max for free years ago?

I'm surprise that they didn't go for Ginga S since it's more recent. I always wanted to check out more Japanese live action shows outside of Toku, so I will watch these shows to show my support.

Sounds like great news, sadly I don't have a premium account but in the odd case that here it's brought as a free show, I'll give it a watch.

It's not uncommon for Crunchyroll to add older shows to it's catalog, the more the merrier.

The unfinished Ultraman Max subs that have taken years to complete 2/3 of the show? Those subs? The fact that Crunchyroll is apparently offering the full series subtitled is already a boon, and as these are likely the Tsuburaya subs that have been hanging around mostly unused outside of one local cable channel in California or Hawaii, Ultraman Max probably isn't going to be the last series we see this way.

I'm very eager to see how this plays out and may go so far as to pay for Crunchyroll simply because they have Max (JoJo helps, though), even if it's watchable for free like some of their other shows. I don't want Max to be a fluke, quickly forgotten.

Hey at least we have another officially licensed subtitled Ultraman available in the USA. I do hope Cruchyroll can look into subbing Kamen Rider even if it's old or new. I'm glad Toku shows have grown in popularity in recent years and now Cruchyroll has look into it.

It seems likely it would be available even with free accounts:

Yay, my favorite Ultraman series! Finally a chance to see the ending without HK subs!

Does Crunchyroll stuff get DVD releases? I'd buy the hell out of a Max boxset.

Well then, I think I know what Ultraman I may start off with.
