We here at Tokunation are pleased to start a new weekly discussion thread entitled “Let’s Watch Wednesdays”, where every Wednesday we’ll discuss up to and including 5 episodes of various Tokusatsu series! Our staff debated and voted, and we hope you will choose one of (if not all of) the three options below for Power Rangers, Super Sentai, and Kamen Rider!
Let’s Watch Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue!
Mariner Bay is the home of this incarnation of Power Rangers who fight against demons led by the evil Diabalico! It’s also the first adaption of Power Rangers to include a Western-only Tokusatsu hero which was not part of the original Japanese Sentai series!
Let’s Watch Gosei Sentai Dairanger!
The Gorma tribe has returned and is taking over the world! Master Kaku has assembled a team of five youths with a large amount of Qi to stop them! You will recognize a lot of the monster and all the zord footage from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 2 as the zords, the monsters, and the White Ranger were adapted from DaiRanger to Power Rangers!
Let’s Watch Kamen Rider Ryuki
The Rider War is here! There can only be one Kamen Rider! Each has the Advent Deck which has bonded them to a monster from the mirror world. Sound familiar? You may have seen this on the KidsWB network as Kamen Rider Dragon Knight. Now see the story as it was originally told as we watch one of the most popular Kamen Rider series!

I like the pacing of Ryuki I also find it to be a great entry level KR series. I only watched a few episodes of Masked Rider when Saban had it in the mid 90's, and some old Kamen Rider dubbed in Tagalog when I visited the Philippines.
What drew me to Ryuki were the designs initially. Not as much of a bug motif but more of a sleek knight. Looked appealing. The characters are likeable too, you can tell Kido will become pretty bad ass later on, and only a few episodes in you can see the bad assery has already started.
Meanwhile Ren starts off bad ass and is pretty cool. Dark hero. I dig his cape and attacks.
I dig the vent options and the contracts with monsters. Ryuki arguably has one of the best monsters, the Drag Redder is bad ass and reminds me of the Red Dragon lightning zord or whatever it was called in Dairanger.
5 episodes in and Ren is hesitantly warming up to Kido, mainly for Yui's sake. I hope this doesn't turn into some forced love triangle.
Ryo? You mean Ren? And don't worry, there won't be a forced love triangle.
Alright, PRLR done... now to do the other two...
