Pacific Rim June Roundup

Posted on June 28, 2013 at 12:07 am by Shin Densetsu under General Tokusatsu News

As this month draws to a close we are mere weeks away from the premiere of Pacific Rim! For those of you looking forward to the 7″ scale NECA Pacific Rim Figures be sure to check out Toys R Us, as they’ve been sighted there this month! There’s more news concerning the movie itself:

Feast your eyes on TV spot 6:

That’s not all, check out the newest Pacific Rim trailer, “At The Edge”:

Also for those of you who intend to watch Pacific Rim in IMAX, check out an IMAX poster designed by Sergio Grisanti! The poster was revealed by Hero Complex. Here’s more on the poster by director Guillermo del Toro:

“I am thrilled to introduce Sergio Grisanti to the world,” Del Toro said in a statement. “For years he has been a highly respected commercial artist. When I was first exposed to his art for ‘Pacific Rim,’ I knew instantly that he was a powerhouse of talent. He created the Jaeger posters/card art we used at WonderCon. Without any hesitation I asked him to create this new Imax Fanfix art. Look at it closely — with a magnifying glass! So much going on! Such power! Such beauty! Sergio loves his Kaijus and his Mecha, and it shows. The poster, like my film, is a tribute to well-loved things. I wish all the fans the best time at the first Imax screenings of ‘Pacific Rim.’ Enjoy!”

Also, an important note about the poster!

The limited-edition poster was created specifically as part of Imax’s Fanfix series and will be available exclusively at the first Imax showings of “Pacific Rim,” which soldiers into theaters July 12.

Oh damn it all. I absolutely adore that poster but I'll be out of the country on July 12. I hope people don't charge a bunch for it after the fact.

I really like that poster. What I don't like is the films tagline; it's too dense. If it was spread out a bit more, say have "To fight monsters" at the top and "We created monsters" at the bottom, then it would have been better. As is, it's mediocre. It's a nitpicky complaint, though.

You are going to Pakistan, right? I'm pretty sure you can find a poster and a DVD of the movie over there.

As if that's not already good enough, I'm going to Hong Kong first.

Yeah that poster is amazing, it's been a while since I've seen an illustrated movie poster like that, and I'm impressed.

I just finished reading the prologue comic last night (112 page HC), and I have been making plans for a "Day Of Daikaiju" with my friends on the 13th... Pacific Rim, Monsterpocalypse, Godzilla, Daimaijin, Ultraman... Totally champing at the bit for this one!

    I'm so excited for this!

I'll be honest and say I have little interest in the movies that inspired this, I mean I can appreciate a dude in a rubber suit stomping on cardboard buildings but I find it hard to have anything beyond just a base appreciation. But with how far CGI has come in the last few years, I'm hoping Pacific Rim elevates the cardboard stomping into something truly great.
