The Key must be found
Wolzard consolidates his dark power
And most terrifying of all, Houka's engagement?!
So let's watch Magiranger 13-15!

13 was probably the weakest one of the bunch, it was obvious what happened to the bag, and while the flashback was nice the episode simply didn't feel as interesting as the other two.
I liked 14 way more than I expected, it has it's flaws but overall it worked nicely, Kai showed his compassion and kindness from episode 1... even if he can be kind of a jerk when it comes to magiranger business, he's growing a little bit on me. I also liked the explanation given for Kai having to be the one to replace Tsubasa.
Tsubasa can be kinda jerkish too, but he's suprisingly noble, and generally speaking I like him, that said I felt that trying to stop the megaton punch was rather out of character for him, given that he had focused on avoiding hits most of the fight.
I felt 15 was rather obvious too, the reason for Houka's wedding was pretty clear and the conclusion was to be expected, but I enjoy Houka and it was nice to see her siblings support her, of course Makito refusing to hear her out shows that he can be even more inmature than Kai in certain aspects, and he trying to control his siblings is getting a little annoying.
Anyways, I did enjoy these episodes more than the previous set and I'm looking forward to the upcoming arc.

So since we're doing this segment it finally got me to pick this series back up and I'm happy to say that I'm happy for that. I'm really enjoying myself this time around. Now I've watched ahead a bit to prepare articles for the front page in the coming weeks but what I find funny about this week is the boxing.
Now if you've seen Boukenger, specifically the movie Boukenger VS Super Sentai, Tsubasa is the magiranger representative. And he's since given up being a hero to focus on becoming a pro boxer. And while you can see his fierce fighting spirit this week, Kai does the boxing. Having yet to finish the series I don't know if Tsubasa picks up boxing for real later. But just knowing that he tries to go pro after the series, this episode was a weird watch for me

Finally caught up with this week's episodes! It's funny how the rangers were wondering why the demon monsters couldn't just come out all at once to attack. And ironically, later the villians in the underworld were talking it.
We learned from them, in order for it be accomplished they needed to open the locked door with a 'key'. Near end of ep 15, we kinda learn who the key is. These are small fragments from the episodes but it seems interesting.

Well, I've been watching Magiranger and decided to comment on 13-15. 13...it was just not as good, it's a really poor episode except I loved the flashback with Kaa-san/MagiMother and the Magirangers. 14 was one of my favorites. I love how Kai came back to train and replace Tsubasa in order to defeat that boxing monster. It must have been a huge predicament for him to choose between his crush, Yamazaki-sama and his brother. 15 was a good episode that I found better than 13 and some other episodes. That's all I can really say about that episode.
Oh yeah! I almost forgot we learned about the key to open the locked down. I wonder what the key is to opening that door? Made the episode much greater for me.

13: Makito and Kai get the awards for being stupid and a tool, respectively this episode. Urara, at least, seems to be developing some sort of reasonable sense of real world responsibility, but I'm not sure how long any character development will last since Kai seems to revert back every episode or so. I'm not sure about Urara beating herself up about not trusting the rest of them because, let's face it, most of them are kind of useless from a non-monster fighting perspective. The lottery thing would have been a more logical thing to castigate herself over, but Tsubasa silver lined that cloud. Another point in Tsubasa's favor, methinks. Ogre was eminently forgettable, but at least we've started a recognizable multi-episode arc.
14: Houka's still pretty obnoxious about butting in whenever anyone tries to have a relationship outside of the family. Makito's actor is still hamming it up every scene. This family really tends to go overboard, as the training scene shows. The villain's training scene seemed less dangerous in comparison. Tsubasa may make a bad decision sometimes, but he and Urara have seemed the least selfish characters these last few episodes. Although Kai looks to grow up again a little bit, I have little faith he won't roll back into his old self next episode. Ghoul's turn is a little more memorable than Ogre's if only because he seems to get more story focus. The Old West town seemed out of place and MagiPunch was pretty silly, but I can see how that whole sequence would have appealed to kids. Also, Mare seemed to be more independent this episode and less of a parrot. A taste of things to come or an inconsistency in the writing? I guess we'll see.
15: We're continuing to move into the bigger picture of the series story here, I think. The whole wedding thing seemed kind of pointless. I suppose it was there to provide insight in Houka's character and if I didn't find her terribly grating, it might have been more enjoyable. As it is, the episode focused on my two least favorite characters but at least Makito managed to be a little amusing when he was blowing his stack. The best part of this episode, I think, was the monster design. I liked it better than the previous two, although that may have just been the nifty red skull element.
In summary: We're finally getting into a longer range story and we're finally really getting some decent insight into who the characters are, even if their character growth rarely seems to last.
One thing I've been meaning to ask since I started watching this: is there some reason the two females are the only ones with white legs on their costumes? It just seems odd.
Den-O says
just to differentiate the costumes I believe, make the sort of skirted bit more prominent. No other real reason.

Episode 13. More shrill, obnoxious family crap. Next.
