Denkou Choujin Gridman returns after almost 20 years in the form of an animated short that debuted at the Animator Expo, and that very short can now be viewed online both at the convention’s website and on Youtube! North American readers will most likely recognize this Ultraman esque hero as Servo from Super Human Samurai Cybersquad.
But the most interesting aspect about this short is that this is the first time we see Gridman Sigma, from a proposed sequel series that never made it past the concept art phase, keep watching till the end of the short where an adult Takeshi Todo(whom would’ve been Sigma’s partner) shouts “Access Flash!” And transforms into the hero.

Animated by Trigger (Kill la Kill) and directed by Akira Amemiya (Inferno Cop, Ninja Slayer from Animation), the short will air on streaming site Niconico as part of Japan Animator Expo!

This is so cool! I mean, it's only a short and not remotely indicative of more Gridman, but it's still something, it actually continues the story of the original series, and it's the last series I'd expect to get any kind of revival in 2015.
It would be so cool if they got Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad cast back to dub this

Seriosuly though, this is awesome news. I was hoping for a new Gridman series but oh well. Better then nothing at all.

Still hoping to see Gridman added to the Crunchyroll lineup at some point. Its almost an Ultra series, right??
The fact that this is done by Studio Trigger makes me stupid excited. I've never seen Gridman but when I was younger I had a Gridman toy who I totally thought was Ultraman/Powerangers crossed over. Like he looked like Ultraman and then you put on the armour and then he looked like a megazord so it's what I connected to first lol.
But yeah Trigger always kills it! They're my favourite animation studio and is made up of lots of ex-gainax major players like Hiroyuki Imaishi (dir of Gurren Lagann) and Yoh Yoshinari (mechanical designer for GL)

New Gridman stuff animated by Trigger is something that I didn't realise I wanted. UNTIL NOW.
