During these 5 years with Tokunation, it has become evident that there is a high demand for certain character figures to be made. As we wait until they are created, some people take it upon themselves to make their own versions. These various customs have made fans happy while we patiently wait for official products. Due to the joy brought by these customs, site admin and customizer KamenRiderOOO has taken it upon himself to learn a little more about the people who create such amazing pieces of work. Every month, we shall interview a different customizing artist in our brand new feature- Customs Corner! (Big thanks to site friend trekkieb47 for his work on the logo!)
This month’s focus is considered one of the greatest customizers around. From his work with various custom Super Sentai/Power Rangers Figuarts to his new prop-making work, this person is well-known for his masterpieces and an inspiration for those who are entering the field themselves. His most popular piece is also a favorite of site owner Kickback and also the character he takes his username from. The customizer we focus on this month, is none other than King Ranger.
Read his interview in the corresponding thread, as well as view some of his previous works down below and be sure to give him a follow on his Twitter, Tumblr and Facebook pages!

Custom Dekamaster vs Custom Wolzard
For anyone looking to get into making custom figures for commission, just know that it’s not as profitable as you might think. Be smart, plan accordingly, and don’t take on more commissions than you know you can handle. Too many times have I heard about artists being bogged down with so many customs because they thought they could handle it or they’ve stopped because it was too overwhelming. Don’t let this happen to you.
Other than that, the sky’s the limit. Use whatever resource you have necessary to make your project turn out how you would want it to. If you have to sacrifice that hard-to-find figure because he has the perfect head, then sacrifice that hard-to-find figure. Mint-in-package figure has the perfect weapon for your custom? Rip that sucker open! You can always replace something you can buy even if it takes some time to do so, but making that perfect figure is a unique experience that has its own level of gratification and, in the end, it’s totally worth it.
OH, and before I forget, stay humble. There is a difference between being proud of your work and coming off as a prick. Don’t criticize someone else’s work just because you think yours is better. Think that yours is better, by all means, but don’t down someone else’s hard work because of it. After all they probably put in just as much work or more into their mediocre custom as you might have in your awesome one. And if they didn’t, well, talk them up, relate by telling them what you went through, and help them improve. After all, if we can all stay humble and look at this hobby as a collaboration and not a competition then we ultimately better the community as a whole and the output we produce.

Kingranger, if you're reading this, I LOVE YOUR CUSTOMS! Before I got into Riders, I loved Sentai and PR to death and I drooled over your customs. Now, I'm reliving that sense of amazement again, I didn't see that Wolzard before and it is gorgeous, along with Dekamaster!

I have seen the Deathryuger and Kyoryu Silver, and they are so great! I wish Figuarts had done official releases of these characters; it's good to know that there is an exceptional unofficial option.

There's definitely an art to customizing. Kingranger is probably the best in the Power Rangers business and I'm happy to see that he's expanded his work to cosplay related stuff these days.
I'm also excited as the pictured Gold Ranger/Kingranger S.H. Figuart custom was once for sale on eBay - and I tried to purchase it - before he had to pull it because the original guy who commissioned it decided he wanted it after all. But Kingranger reached out to me and is currently working on one for me and I should have an update on it soon.
And of course I'm going to gallery the sh*t out of it.
