Thanks to an article at Variety.com, we have the first tentative release date for the upcoming sequel to the blockbuster hit Godzilla movie that was released earlier this year. If you remember, at San Diego Comic Con it was announced that the sequel was happening and would include a plethora of fan-favorite monsters to battle our lizard hero. But now we have a date.
Godzilla 2 is scheduled for release in June 2018. That’s quite a bit of a wait for a sequel (4 years!) but will it be worth it? Come and discuss!

Yessir!

That's such a long wait. I mean the Godzilla hype train could be gone, and the movie could be less successful.

I was thinking the same thing sadly.

Wait! what? 4 years!? Why not 2016? This is not cool.

I'm fine with this. Primarily because I expect MonsterArts of the new iterations of Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan. And all of this Gaim madness wrecking my bank account should be over so I can buy them.
Also I feel that they're giving themselves more production time, which could potentially mean a better film.

4 years? Is Japan planning on reviving their version of Godzilla in the meantime? I mean, I'm surprised seriously they haven't started coming up new ones of their own at all.
Just seems like a crazy huge gap to wait for a sequel.

Don’t know why you guys think its too long – they should take their time. It doesn’t matter when the sequel comes, people wont forget about it because you can be damn sure the marketing campaign reminds them of what a big success the last one was and gets them interested again. And fans wont forget about it anyway.
I personally think its a good sign, they give this thing time instead of rushing it like other movies do. The wait will be hard for me, I admit it, I loved the new movie. But it will be worth it once we see Godzilla and the new King Ghidorah clash on the big screen and the movie around it isn’t complete bull-crap.

I don't want build up, after build up, after build up, until in the last 15 minutes we finally get some fighting.

4 years is pretty average for a movie sequel. It's not like we have to wait another 16 years for another American film. Into Darkness came out four years after the first movie and it did fine. I feel like some people are making it seem like it's 20 years away.
