For the 25th Anniversary of the Power Rangers, BOOM! Studios and Saban Brands have come together to release the Power Rangers Artist Tribute Book – which is exactly what it is – a book of tributes from artists to 25 years of Power Rangers. Featuring contributions from over 80 different artists this book is a Power Rangers fan’s dream come true. Set to release on April 3rd in hardcover format, a digital version is available now from Comixology and thus we’ve decided to take a look at this book.

This 112 page artist tribute book starts off with a Foreword written by Paul Schrier, known for both his role as Farkas “Bulk” Bulkmeier on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Power Rangers Zeo, Power Rangers Turbo, Power Rangers In Space, Power Rangers Lot Galaxy, Power Rangers Wild Force, and Power Rangers Samurai. This foreword is both powerful and incredibly accurate in its description of the older Power Rangers fan base.
“You went and grew up, folding into your own experience the themes of friendship, teamwork, of doing the right thing the first time and reaching your hand out to help others in their time of need. I know there was a period in your life after you thought you outgrew Power Rangers where that familiar tune started to creep back into your subconscious. That killer guitar lick is infectious, inspiring millions of viewers. Some of those viewers turn out to be amazing artists who themselves feel the urge to interpret the Power Rangers universe in their own style. That spirit suffuses the book you now hold in your hands.” – Paul Schrier
The book then moves towards splash pages of each and every single team of Power Rangers in sequential order to when they aired on television. Every team is represented in this sequence with Power Rangers Megaforce and Power Rangers Super Megaforce sharing a page together (as the only team to retain it’s name but change suits).
After the initial sequence of each and every Power Rangers team, we are treated to the more specialty images. There are some beautiful images of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers that simply must be seen in their full image glory to really be appreciated. I know I would buy posters of these and I hope one day we can get them released as such.
You also have some pages dedicated to the legacy of certain characters. For Jason Scott, the original Mighty Morphin Red Ranger, you have an image dedicated to his legacy with all three of his suits – Mighty Morphin Red, Armored Mighty Morphin Red, Zeo Gold, as well as all of his zords, in one splash page. Tommy Oliver, who really needs no explanation, has a fun page of all his different Power Rangers suits in the process of removing their helmets (sans Lord Drakkon). Tribute pages to Bulk and Skull, auxiliary heroes, mentors, villains, even the Psycho Rangers get their own (awesome) page of artwork in this book. The romances of the franchise are also showcased on a variety of pages starting with Tommy and Kimberly and ending with Tyler and Shelby.
The book ends with an Afterword from Melissa Flores, Director of Power Rangers Content at Saban Brands. She reminisces about her time with the franchise and how she’s fallen in love with it since joining Saban Brands. She states the book was put together with love – which you can tell flipping through each page looking for your favorite Power Ranger – and is put together by fans for fans.
If you’re a fan of the Power Rangers then you need to pick up this book. If you’re a casual fan of Power Rangers then you need to pick up this book. If you loved Power Rangers as a kid but haven’t touched it since you need to pick up this book. In short – you need to pick up this book.
The Power Rangers Artist Tribute Book releases in hardcover on April 3rd. It’s also available now, digitally, via Comixology for $24.99 or on Amazon Kindle for $20.18. You can pre-order the hardcover on Amazon for $21.24.

Ooh, I just found out about this not too long ago and was wondering how it would turn out. Seems like a pretty nice book and I am a sucker for art books. Might pick this up in the future.
