Today brings some excellent news for fans of the Kaiju VS Jaeger action franchise Pacific Rim!
Netflix has announced they will be releasing a new animated series set in the Pacific Rim universe, one of several brand-new animation titles for the streaming platform.
A brief story outline has also been released:
The story will “follow two siblings – an idealistic teenage boy and his naïve younger sister – who are forced to pilot an abandoned Jaeger across a hostile landscape in a desperate attempt to find their missing parents.”
The series will be produced by Legendary Entertainment. Two showrunners have been announced- Craig Kyle (writer of Thor: Ragnarok) and Greg Johnson (whose resume includes a number of animated shows such as X-Men Evolution, Beast Wars & Transformers Rescue Bots).
Sadly, no release schedule has been announced at time of writing. Stay tuned to TokuNation as we keep you up to date on this exciting new project!

Think it could work pretty well animated, so I'm down for giving it a shot.
The synopsis though, ehhh... Of course they'd make it about kids to get, well, kids to watch. Can deal with that. Just would hope that a "hostile landscape" still means plenty of jaegar on kaiju combat.

Sounds promising, and both have done some great work.
And glad to hear it's two writers, Craig Kyle usually needs a partner to keep his writing from getting too weird(Thor: The Dark World, and a lot of his praised Marvel work Chris Yost was keeping him on task about). His solo work is rather mixed to somewhat bad, but his collabed work is fantastic. Doesn't help he kind of sucks at science too, so glad he's partnered with a scifi heavy writer to keep him on point and in check. That's usually when his best work shines.
Looking forward to some of the stories that come out of this! Some interesting parallels that can be done and nods.

Netflix what are you doing?! Couldn’t you put that money to better use than on a terrible franchise?

I will be curious about what art style that they will be using. I wonder if they will use the typical anime-inspired art style similar to what we see in Western animated shows like Castlevania, Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Boondocks, etc or their own creative style?

Oh hell yes I am down for this, I just hope it doesn’t use that gross 3d anime style they use for a lot of things. Then again even if it did I would watch it for more Pacific Rim.

Suddenly reminded of this.

While the 2nd film never really worked for me (pacing & choppy plot) and the first one was a bit slow at points to me, I still have some good will towards the franchise. Thanks to good actors doing their best I still found myself invested in the characters, even if the films didn't fully grab me. An anime sounds pretty great honestly and like a good chance for the franchise to go in a different direction.

And now we wait for what funky name they come up with.
Anyone know how the naming scheme works for Pacific Rim's jaegers? I cant seem to find it and would love to know.
