Shout Factory Brings Ultra Q to DVD

Posted on May 10, 2013 at 5:38 pm by Den-O under Ultraman

Shout Factory, known for bringing Power Rangers to DVD recently here in the US, and the 3 Japanese exclusive G1 Transformers series before that, is taking a stab at some classic tokusatsu. Announced today, Shout Factory will be releasing a full DVD set of Ultra Q!

Ultra Q, as you may or may not know, is the precursor to the original Ultraman series which ran from 1966-67. This DVD release will contain the full 28 episode run of Ultra Q. Currently it’s unknown whether or not these DVD’s will only contain the Japanese audio track with english subtitles, or if it will also contain the elusive english dub produced in the late 60’s by Film House in Canada.

What is known is that it will be digitally colored and re-mastered from it’s original black and white, contain the full 6-disc 28 episode series, and that retail price will be $59.97. However pre-ordering through the shout factory site will reduce the price to $47.98.

Ultraman Land To Close This Year

Posted on February 15, 2013 at 12:34 am by Den-O under Ultraman

And now a sad bit of news folks. After 17 years of business, Tokyo’s famed Ultraman Land is closing its doors. The park was opened for operation in 1996 in Tokyo’s Sunshine City Complex. Ever since its creation the park has featured tons of activities for fans of all ages. Stage shows, live events, interviews and public appearances by cast and crew, and so much more. There are even replicas on display of nearly every Ultraman prop or costume that you could think of from the entire franchise!

Tsuburaya (Ultraman’s parent company) has stated that the parks closure coincides with the 50th Anniversary of the franchise. They’re gearing up for the anniversary itself but are closing the most memorable place for fans to enjoy Ultraman which seems odd. The park will close this September 2013 so if you’re a Japanese based fan or will be traveling there soon then be sure to drop in to see Ultraman Land for the last time.
