Tokusatsu fans across the world fell in love with Guiliermo Del Toro’s epic Mecha VS Kaiju cinematic entry Pacific Rim last summer. Sadly, the box office returns were less than expected, leaving the future of this innovative new universe in doubt- UNTIL NOW!
Del Toro himself has confirmed that Pacific Rim 2 will be released in 2017! In addition, a new animated series set in the Pacific Rim universe (and following up on the adventures published in comic book format) will come out to bridge the gap between the first film and the sequel.

Although Legendary/WB had already announced the sequel was happening earlier in the year it's good to hear Del Torro talk about it now. And an animated series? I can get way behind that. Especially considering they're talking about elements from Tales From Year Zero. It'd be great to see any of the early Jaeger development program.
