Though we’re still several months away from the return of new Power Rangers Super Megaforce episodes on Nick, TokuNation has a little something to get you through this dry spell. Spotted recently at retail across the country and having finally been snagged by staff members we thought it was time to share with you the Q-Rex Megazord Gallery!
The Q-Rex is the personal Megazord of the Super Megaforce Silver Ranger! Sent from the future by the Time Force Rangers this machine can transform into it’s own Dinozord, Drill, & Megazord modes! A tribute to 3 past shows (Mighty Morphin Powers, Dino Thunder, & Time Force) this Megazord shares physical attributes with many of those Megazords that came before it. Like the Dragon Zord, Thundersaurus Megazord, or the original Q-Rex! Based on the DX Gozyujin toy from Bandai of Japan’s Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger line the Q-Rex puts it’s own spin on the design with the inclusion of Bandai of America’s Zord Builder system. With a plethora of these connectors & ports strategically placed through out, this toy will be a welcome addition to your collection.
After the jump we’ve assembled a lengthy review of this figure, exploring it’s many features and design elements. And we also have a 60+ image gallery for you to enjoy! If you’d like to take an up close look at the Q-Rex Megazord and see how it stacks up to it’s cousin, DX Gozyujin, then please click “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums” at the bottome of this post to be taken to our full gallery thread!

Summon, Q-Rex Zord!
After weeks of sightings across the country it's time for TokuNation to take a look at the Power Rangers Super Megaforce Q-Rex Megazord! This recent release was first featured in the final episode of the first half of Super Megaforce; Silver Lining, Part 2.
This toy is of course based on the DX Gozyujin from Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger, and obviously the footage from Super Megaforce is taken from this series too. As a new interpretation of this previous toy, how does Q-Rex stack up? Let's find out!
**A lengthy review of this toy follows but don't forget to check out Post #2 for some additional photos as well!
To start the Q-Rex includes the Red Dino Thunder Ranger Key. Of the three shows to choose from a key to include, this is an odd one. As clearly evidenced in the source footage and in Super Megaforce, the 3 keys linked to this robot are MMPR Green Ranger, Dino Thunder White Ranger, & Time Force Quantum Ranger. So tossing in a red key seems odd when one of these others would have definitely been fit to include with it.
Packaging
The packaging for Q-Rex is the same standard open type box as the Legendary Megazord. Though this figure has come out much later than the initial Megazord assortment. As such it features new cross sells and advertisements. Such upcoming products as the Super Megaforce Ninja Zord, the new Legendary Cycles assortment, and the upcoming Ranger Keys from Wave 4.
A new Ranger Key contest/event is also advertised on the packaging called the Unlock The Power Sweepstakes. All you need to do is participate is download the Ranger Key scanner app and start scanning your keys! Possible prizes including Legacy Titanus as well as the official rules for the contest can be found at the Ranger Crew blog courtesy of Fury Diamond!
Dinozord Mode
This mode in both the Japanese & US series is based on the Dragon Zord/Dragon Caesar & Q-Rex/V-Rex. When compared to the original Gozyujin some noticeable differences can be seen. The Q-Rex has quite a few missing paint apps, though the ones that are present are surprisingly well done. The stance of the Q-Rex is a bit more upright than Gozyujin as well making it appears bigger or rather taller in this mode. It's mostly due to the angle at which the legs are molded. This is actually a pretty great representation of the the megazords Q-Rex mode.
I only take issue with how overly simplified the dino arms are. The elbow joint and poseable claws of the original Bandaj of Japan toy have been removed so these are just two solid pieces now. The arms really can't be very dynamic. The spring from the Rex head has been removed though so splaying the mouth open a little is a bit easier and more natural looking.
Drill Mode
Drill Mode is the form this Megazord assumes when travelling back in time from the year 3000. Sent by the Time Force Rangers for the Silver Ranger's use this form is based on the Q-Rex/V-Rex. Though it's mostly just the time travelling abilities this form inherits rather than any physical traits. In the context of the show this zord is referred as the Q-Rex by the rangers, as though it has always looked like this despite being very different from the one presented in Time Force.
This form is roughly the same as the BOJ version. However there are some differences. DX Gozyujin has the ability to bend it's legs outward at 90 degree angles and fold them up against the torso to achieve this form. Due to the inclusion of the Zord Builder system in Q-Rex, rather making the legs fold, they have to be removed entirely from the mid-thigh down and then attached again to the torso via double Zord Builder joints. Unfortunately this leaves some glaring ports facing forward. The tail section becomes the forward drill in this mode as well, and despite some paint and size differences it achieves the look.
The only issue I have with it is that mine has an incredibly loose joint on the drill. Where it would normally rotate down to form an arm the joint isn't solid at all, so it droops quite a bit, it does this in Dionzord mode as well. The folding landing gear have also been omitted from this toy. The Q-Rex mode dino arms have also been simplified making them a bit more difficult to store in this form. They actually stick out pretty far when attached to the back for drill mode, but extra wheels are attached to them to help balance this mode.
Megazord Mode
This mode is perhaps the best of the 3 intended forms. The Megazord mode succeeds in pulling off almost entirely the same look and feel as the original DX Gozyujin toy. However there is a sever lack of proper paint application to the front & backsides of this figure and there are some major physical differences here as well. Based as a double homage to the Thundersaurus Megazord & MMPR Dino Megazord, this figure shares an amalgamation of physical features between the two.
Though the dino arms have a specified place to go in drill mode thanks to the instructions, here they are completely forgotten. According to the instructions you simply don't use them. And due to the permanent position the arms are molded in they can't be put in place properly on the back so you kind of have to make due.
Another missing feature is the gear driven/wind up spinning gimmick of the Gozyujin. The dial to activate this gimmick in the original is merely a molded in unpainted feature here. I appreciate the molded detail still being there, but not being functional kind of hurts it. Likewise the two arms no longer feature that spin gimmick. The left arm/Q-rex head hand features no movement at all aside from being able to transform back and forth. The drill arm can still spin, but only in one direction and there is no locking mechanism to allow for any sort of tension build up or release. On the topic of the drill the trident mode has also been nixed. The Q-Rex opts for a single solid piece drill that can't split down the middle unlike it's predecessor Gozyujin.
The rotating neck joint built into the torso with two lengths (1 for dino & 1 for drill) has also been removed in favor of a simpler single Zord Builder peg. The side effect of this is that the small plastic flap that could fold up on the BOJ release and fill in the empty space between the neck & chest is also no longer there. Again these are mostly just physical changes that don't impact the playability of the toy,and again this form easily pulls off the look of the onscreen counterpart the best of the 3.
Zord Builder Compatibility/Combined Modes
Q-Rex Megazord incorporates a grand total of 16 male Zord Builder connectors and 11 female ports. Sneakily there are 1 of each type on the drill itself, the drill can physically detach from the arm it's attached to. Making this easily the most versatile use of the system since it's inception. If more toys actually embraced this system properly like Q-Rex, then it could actually be a lot of fun. Unfortunately most them just have them placed here and there and they aren't very useful. The Q-Rex is a great example for where the line should go in the future.
When combined with the Legendary Megazord there isn't much to say. As with it's Japanese counterpart, Gozyu Gokai Oh, this unnamed combination is rather unimpressive. Simply swapping arms leaves a lot to be desired. But if you so choose you can stick random parts wherever you like with the built in Zord Builder ports.
Final Thoughts
The Q-Rex Megazord is by far the best toy released in Bandai of America's Super Megaforce line to date. It hit's all the right points of the original, and mostly only makes compromises that don't effect it's integrity as a toy. If you like the Zord Builder system then trust me, you'll love this thing. However if the system isn't to your liking then this figure may not be either as a bit of it's complexity was sacrificed to incorporate it.
Sadly the price point of this toy is a bit on the higher end as well. Retail price at the Walmart I purchased this one from was $34.99. A bit steep if you ask me for a toy of this nature. Most Walmart systems are also currently not scanning these items properly, they show up often as "item not found." So you may get lucky and get them for a lower price as many collectors have already.
If you don't already own a DX Gozyujin then I would say this is a pretty great stand in. Though not quite as impressive as his Japanese cousin, the Q-Rex Megazord gets the job done quite well. As someone who generally dislikes BOA's interpretations of these toys, I can certainly appreciate what we have here. Though I would still say that DX GoZyujin would be the better toy for the collector who wants proper screen accuracy, I can see the appeal of the Q-rex. For the one and only non-sarcastic time ever though, I will use the term Super Mega Win.

Okay, I'm sold. I was already interested just from liking the design, but this image sells it for me.

Looks good for a BOA toy in my opinion. I will get him when he goes on sale for $15 or $20.

Man this is a great figure, Den-O you had to make me wanna buy it

Seriously, the Zordbuilder pegs on the back are a godsend when messing with this guy. The Legendary Megazord should have had a pair. The one thing that would have improved it Zordbuilder-wise is if there were a port on the back as well.
ShyGuy says
This actually looks pretty good, I like that it has so many Zord Builder ports, that's the main appeal to me with the BoA stuff. I'll definitely try to pick one of these up if I see it on sale.

A small correction pointed out to me by Raz that I overlooked. I should have mentioned that the Q-Rex's drill/tail can actually be removed from the arm entirely. It's actually on a Zord Builder port itself. Bringing the total up to 16 male & 11 female connectors.
