Let’s rocket! TokuNation users were asked which show they wanted to see next and they’ve answered! Power Rangers In Space is the next installment of Let’s Watch Wednesdays!
With the beginning of this series we need a little back story from the last one. Power Rangers Turbo saw our heroes take a number of loses in it’s finale. With the Command Center destroyed the Turbo Zords annihilated & the Turbo Ranger powers gone, and leaving Justin behind, TJ, Cassie, Ashley, Carlos, & Alpha rocket away from Earth in hopes of finding and rescuing Zordon…..
Now, the old enemies of the Power Rangers are gathering, a new Alliance of Evil is forming, all under the watch of Dark Specter and his evil protege Astronema. Bent on destroying Zordon there’s only one force standing in the way of this alliance, a new Red Ranger! And while our former rangers struggle to find their bearings they’ll cross paths with this new hero and form a fantastic new team, the Space Rangers! But before this fledgling team of rangers really gets off the ground they’ll have a run in with some heroes of an entirely different nature. the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
Rocket Powered Reading #1
Bringing back out informational segment we begin this week with some background on this series. Power Rangers In Space was the final season in what would come to be known as the “Zordon Era”. The era in which the Power Rangers derived their guidance, powers, zords, and weaponry in one form or another from this legendary mentor and his direct associates. As you’ll find out when we approach the end of this series there’s a good reason why this season marks the end of that era.

Episodes 1-2... Let's Rocket!
I really think these episodes still hold up as one of the best opening arcs in the franchise's history. The council of villains in the opening does a good job of setting up the nature and scale of this season's threat and serves as a great introduction to Andross. Meanwhile, the Turbo Rangers are still clearly suffering from the aftermath of the last episodes of their show. I do like seeing them explore the Astor Megaship and all the effort they had to go through to get Andross to trust them.
The Space suits aren't my all-time favorites or anything, but they're nicely streamlined and aren't as busy as some of the other PR suits. I also love the helmets. The Astro Megazord is one of my all-time favorites and I still think it's cool that it's both their Megazord and their home base. You don't see that kind of double duty for a Megazord very often.
Honestly, the only downside to these episodes is Astronema. As I remember, she gets much better, but dear lord is she awful at first. I'm amazed there's any scenery left with how aggressively she's chewing it here. If you showed me these episodes and then told me that Melodie Perkins is still getting work as an actress today I would never believe you.

In Space is by far the one Power Rangers season that endears itself most to me. My all time favorite. Mostly because of how vastly different it is from Megaranger. In Space has such an incredible overall incredible story with so many cameos and throwbacks that it's like an anniversary season. See Super Megaforce? That's how you do it.
As for these episodes the intro is great. I really love the idea of an alliance of past villains coming together like this under a new villain. The just by chance way the rangers encounter Andros. The way the footage was adapted in almost perfect way to really make a space themed show out of one that isn't particularly space based.
And I can't wait for next week's full crossover. I LOVED Next Mutation, don't care about the hate it gets I loved that show. And this crossover was like fireworks exploding in my head as a kid. Some of my all time greatest heroes together. For a kid in the 90's that team-up was like Batman fighting and then teaming up with the X-Men in comic book terms.

I never saw Next Mutation as a kid, so I have nothing to hate on
Anyways it's nice to watch Space again. It was one of the first of the series I ever saw next to Lost Galaxy and some MMPR stuff, so it's kinda fun returning to my toku routes.

So was that tortoise Astronema's pet or something?

It was nice seeing Power Rangers In Space after so long. For some strange reason, I always like to try to spot the Sentai footage now-a-days.
