The numbers are in for the opening weekend for the new Power Rangers Movie. The Power Rangers worldwide opening weekend total is at $59.2 million dollars – with $40.5 million from a strong domestic release, and $18.7 million from a “muted” international release.
The movie cost roughly $100 million so a couple more strong weeks could help push the movie to break-even status. Fans will be watching with anticipation as the movie surpassed their expectations and a sequel is something many fans want to see happen.

We still didn't beat Beauty and the Beast during the first week. It's still not a bad start and I hope we get a sequel by 2019 or 2020.

Original expectations had this movie making between $30 and $38 million. So for it to hit the $40 mark domestically is a big "omg, don't sleep on this movie" type of thing. You will see a lot more coverage for it next week with Hollywood sites writing click-bait articles examining WHY the movie did better than expected.
The international release is slightly disappointing. For Power Rangers to be so huge globally in terms of being viewed in hundreds of other countries, to work in only $18 million internationally, or less than what the movie did here in the US on Saturday, leaves me a bit wary.
Ideally, you'd want the movie to break even and not be a "loss" in terms of financials for Lionsgate and Saban Brands. At the same time, when the movie does better than expected (ie: "it didn't flop as much as we thought!"), the argument can then be made that this movie is setting up the next movie which will be bigger, badder, and make more money.
So who knows, really. Depends on what Saban and Lionsgate want to do.

Of course, toy/merchandize sales could factor into it too but I think a sequel is pretty much assured.

I'm still going to wait and catch it on video/streaming, personally, but I will probably make an actual effort to watch it when it comes to home video instead of maybe just stumbling into it on cable in a couple years.

I hope week 2 will do better then this.

We are getting a sequel, but I am curious how it did in Japan.

Ghost in the Shell and Boss Baby are coming out next week. I see a lot of ads for those movies over the past month. So PR will probably drop to #3 or #5 next week.
