Via Yahoo News Japan we have just learned of the passing of a titanic figure in the Japanese tokusatsu industry. Chikara Hashimoto, perhaps best known for his role as the mighty demon god Daimajin in the Daiei Film trilogy, has passed away at 83. Mr. Hashimoto sadly lost a battle with lung cancer on October 10th, though news of his passing has only just begun to reach the west.
Chikara Hashimoto is best known as the suit actor of Daimajin. He also played the part of the Yokai Daimon in the 2nd film of Daiei’s Yokai trilogy, Spook Warfare. However he is also well known for his role in the Bruce Lee film Fist of Fury as dojo grandmaster Hirshoi Suzuki.
We extend our condolences on behalf of the entire community to Mr. Hashimoto’s family. Truly his performances are unforgettable. If you’ve never watched the Daimajin trilogy, I would personally recommend it at some point. They are a true testament to what can be achieved with traditional special effects.

Undoubtedly the one role most western fans will recognize this legend for is as the suit actor of the titular Daimajin character through out Daiei's Daimajin Trilogy. His performance as the great demon job is truly spectacular if you've never seen these films before.
The news comes via Yahoo Japan News.
