First Round Of LupinRanger VS PatoRanger Magazine Scans Posted Online!

Posted on December 25, 2017 at 7:32 am by Paladin under Super Sentai

A plethora of new images from the upcoming 42nd Super Sentai Series Kaitou Sentai LupinRanger vs Keisatsu Sentai PatoRanger have just been released!

While the scans do not provide much NEW information about these upcoming series, they do offer some excellent clarification on several items teased in the early catalog photos:

*We see the VS Changer, henshin device and sidearm for both teams.
*The LupinRangers’ powers are fueled by aircraft-based Dial Fighters while the PatoRangers use automotive-based Trigger Machines. Both can grow in size to become the teams’ Mecha.
*Members of LupinRanger are armed with the Lupin Sword (which also functions as a grappling hook). Meanwhile, Team PatoRangers’ signature weapon is the Pat Megabo– a baton that can turn into a megaphone.

Finally, a brief story teaser for this new series is included! A legendary thief known as Arsène Lupin gathered a series of powerful artifacts known as the Lupin Collection until all were stolen by a mysterious enemy force. The LupinRangers- who have taken their name as tribute to the iconic thief- declare it their duty to recover the Collection, but the PatoRangers have also been assigned to recover the treasures AND arrest the LupinRangers. Will the teams overcome their differences? Only time will tell!

Kaitou Sentai LupinRanger VS Keisatsu Sentai PatoRanger is currently scheduled to begin in February 2018! Stay tuned to TokuNation as we keep you up to date on this remarkable new Super Sentai Series!

Very little NEW information but some much closer looks at items we had learned about from catalogs.

Am I the only one whose noticed that these things don't really try to not look like toys anymore? I don't know when this problem started, but I hate it about as much as I hate that I can't better describe what's even the problem.

That's been a problem for years now. With Sentai it started with Gaoranger and Hurricanger but didn't really take off until recently. Rider has been ok for the most part but the weapons in Drive and Build are rather lame. Even Gaim's arsenal looked less toyish than the NinjaComic Sword.

Stuff according to scans(by yours truly):

Lupin Collection: Arsene Lupin's stolen treasure collection that is said to have strange powers

    [Rangers]
    Lupinrangers
    - They are a team of phantom thieves who are all about speed
    - Lupin Red is the core figure of the team who has quick judgement that even when he changes plans it is quick
    - Lupin Blue can quickly evade his enemy's attacks as well as attack swiftly like an acrobat
    - Lupin Yellow is nimble and is precise with her movements when fighting

    Patrangers
    - They are are part of the International Police Force Team whose task is to secure the safety of people and capture phantom thieves
    - Patran 1(red) is a steadfast power-type warrior who does not deviate from his objective and is skilled in hand-to-hand combat
    - Patran 2(green) is a diligent warrior who once decides to do something starts working on it, he is also skilled in handling machines
    - Patran 3(pink) is an active warrior whose actions speak louder than words, and is an explosive force to be reckoned with in a pinch

    [Vehicles]
    Trigger Machines
    - By setting the trigger machines on the lower part of the VS changer and shooting them will make them grow big
    - Each has a special transformation gimmick, Trigger Machine 1 can become a six-wheeled vehicle for super speed, Trigger Machine 2 has a giant beam cannon, and Trigger Machine 3 has a gigantic baton

    Dial Fighters
    - By setting the trigger machines on the upper part of the VS changer and shooting them will make them grow big
    - Red Dial Fighter's hidden gimmick is unknown but says it can fly at supersonic speeds, Blue Dial Fighter has a gatling gun, and Yellow Dial Fighter has spinning cutters

    [Weapons]
    VS Changer
    - A gun that is used by both teams to transform and fight
    - Trigger machines will boost the firepower of the VS Changer while dial fighters power up the ammo speed of the VS Changer
    - Patrangers henshin phrase is "keisatsu change(police change)" while Lupinrangers use the phrase "kaito change(phantom thief change)"

Pat Megabo: Patrangers' custom weapon that can be a megaphone and a baton

Lupin Sword: Lupinrangers' sword that can even slice through iron doors, holding it in reverse will allow the rangers to use the magic hand claw function

Your complaining that... toys look like toys? What else are they supposed to look like? Realistic weapons? Where's the fun in that? Maybe its just the toy collector in me but I actually prefer it when they look like toys rather then actual weapons.

I'm pretty damned sure it didn't start with Wild Force or Ninja Storm. Now that I'm thinking about it, If I was gonna place the decline anywhere, it'd probably be pretty recent. Like, maybe some time after Samurai.

No, I'm complaining about the fact that these toys look like they would be mocked as toyish looking even in-universe, what with the toy cars and toy planes stuck onto their guns, and that claw-sword is a bit daft, too, but only as a claw. It's a fine-looking sword otherwise. The gun on its own actually looks alright as well, now that I'm taking another look at it. It's really only the Megazords that look outright terrible, especially the vehicle modes of the big shared Zord.

I never said anything about looking realistic either. You shouldn't put words in other people's mouths.

Realistic may had been a bad choice in words on my part but I apologize for miss interpreting what you said.

When I said 'Realistic Weapons" I said it not because I assumed you wanted that but instead because that was the first thing that came to mind as an alternative to toyetic but, in retrospect, that may have been a bit of a jump. I apologize if it sounded as though I was accusing you of something.

    No, you aren't.

It's sort of like there's a scale, with "plausible as an actual weapon/vehicle" on one end and "what Bandai thinks will appeal to small children" on the other end.

There's been this tension between those for a while. When I caught my first Sentai episode - I think it was Gokaiger - I remember feeling mildly disappointed/miffed that the Gokaigers' weapons looked so much like toys. Thing is, they also looked way, way more plausible than some of these.

I think the worst offender among the LvP toys are the Trigger Machines. Usually, the version we see in-show (and in magazine scans) looks at least a little cooler and more plausible than the toys. The Trigger Machines in these scans... looks like toys meant for small children. I think it's the color schemes on the pink and green vehicles that look so seriously wrong.

The basic Vs. Changer gun looks somewhat more plausible, but the white color is doing it no favors, giving it a sort of cheap look.

So, yeah, I think at least some of the LvP weapons and vehicles are a little worse than normal. Then again, it's been only a couple of years since Zyuohger gave us cube guns and block mecha. I'm not sure what the last Sentai was that biased its designs more toward looking plausible/cool... maybe Go-Busters?

Yes. That's how they looked like in the past.

Have you seen the individual weapons in Gao and Hurri? They look exactly like the toys and ridiculous on screen. The Eagle Sword, Gao Hustler Rod and Quick Hammer may be the only exceptions.

I have not seen Gao/Wild Force recently enough to remember them, but I'm pretty okay with Ninja Storm's weapons.
