"Black Hazard! Oh no!"

For the 2nd year in a row, Tamashii Nations has seriously delivered on their event exclusives. Cashing in with the extremely popular 2017 exclusive GenM Level 2 was clearly the correct move based on the value it still retains. And riding this years wave of popularity with Kamen Rider Build, Tamashii has made a similarly intelligent choice for their big exclusive.

Unable to stave off new enemies and out of options, Sento sought help from his greatest enemy. The man known to our heroes as Souichi Isurugi would eventually reveal himself as the extra terrestrial threat, Evolt. But early on, he would torment and aide our heroes as it benefited his schemes under the guise of Blood Stalk. One of the most significant, and consequential, actions he undertook in these earlier days was giving Sento the Hazard Trigger. A weapon of incredible power, they couldn't possibly have known at the time it's dark origins, or what it was really based upon. Using this mighty power up, Build is able to achieve a dangerous new form, the black hazard, Kamen Rider Build Rabbit Tank Hazard Form! For better or worse Sento had to rely on this power, particularly and regrettably in his battles with Grease & the Hokuto Three.

Packaging
Following the recent trend of Tamashii Nations fall event exclusives, Hazard comes in a particularly gorgeous new slip cover box. Like GenM Level 2 last year, the slip cover was produced exclusively for the event release of the figure, while the later 2nd run being sold through the Tamashii Web Shop will not feature it. This slip features the event logos as well as a stunning shot of Hazard in blue flame on the back. The interior box is identical to what the Web release will be, but it does look so very nice. It's honestly hard for anything featuring this gorgeous form to look bad.

Main Figure
I know plenty of people like to link final forms to having detrimental side effects on their users, and there's some evidence to support that in the 1st half of the Heisei Era. Blade King Form is often cited. But I've never really considered that a benchmark for what makes a final form. To me, the more often dangerous forms are those that come close to final forms. The in-betweens, the new and experimental, the untamed powers, ones that require the hero to hone their skills to control. Dexterity gained using such forms prepares them for the final power to come. OOO PuToTyra is a great example of this. I do not consider this to be OOO final form no matter what some say. (It's Super TaToBa k?) In this zone of powerful and dangerous but not quite final are forms like Agito Burning, Kuuga Ultimate (again Rising Ultimate is the final, I will die on this hill), W Fang Joker, OOO PuToTyra, Wizard All Dragon, Drive Type's Dead Heat & Formula, etc. So Build Hazard Form fits right into that quarter to middle of series astronomically dangerous power-up category. But where does the figure fit in?

For better or worse, Build Hazard is almost entirely a repaint of the standard Rabbit/Tank figuart. There are some newly mold parts, but it's a very similar release, as many figure's in this sub line have been. If you're familiar with one of them, you're likely familiar with several of them. The biggest difference here, is Hazard's tendency towards uniformity. Where many Build designs have asymmetrical elements to them, Hazard limits this mainly to the head. For now though, with the lower body the legs are largely identical to the original, aside from the absence of the rabbit "spring". Molded identically now, and painted in alternating shades of black, they look very sleek. The base of the body and legs in this case is a matte black, while the raised surfaces on the legs are more of a shiny speckled gray, which I really dig. It helps bring out detail that would otherwise not be as evident. For articulation, these legs function identically to the last three uses of the mold. The only limitations being some upward hip movement, and less than perfect knee bends.

The Build Driver is once again carried over from previous outings. The new feature here is of course the addition of the new Hazard Trigger. The last several uses of the Build Driver do not actually have an open slot for the Trigger to be used, so it's molded into this one. If it is removable, well mine's in there quite tightly. The driver also features the same Rabbit & Tank Full Bottles seen on the first Build, though with slightly better paint apps. As always these bottles can be slotted into the left side hip mounted holster.

For the upper body, we again see a new symmetrical component, the breast plate. While I love the interesting way the two-tone, uniquely molded halves of the chest normally are, this new uniform design adds some menace and power to the design, and draws your eyes to the center of the design as well. Interestingly the plate across the abs, is hinged to move up and out as necessary to get away from the Driver. The neckline also features a dramatic collar that accents the head really nicely and adds some fantastic artificial bulk and depth to the upper body. Color wise we see the base body in matte black, while armor and raised surfaced use that same nicely speckled black as the lower body.

With the arms we again see what are essentially identical parts to the basic Build, Articulation works out the same for the most part. The only significant change are the new shoulder pads. The harsh and pointed design of these new shoulders adds to the overall menacing and powerful look of this figure. In a natural flow of design, they look like they're growing out of the new chest plate, and man I just really love them. Functionally they do hurt how much upward and outward movement there is in the shoulder. But they're no more worse than say Cross-Z Charge or say Blood Stalk's shoulders.

The only true bit of asymmetry to this design is of course the head. This is a really striking and intense design that sets this form apart from all of Build's other to me. While it clearly has the traditional Rabbit & Tank compound eyes, there are also new protrusions coming out roughly parallel to the eyes, as well as chevron like fins that come up behind the eyes. The surface of the head is also re-sculpted quite nicely, dispensing with the asymmetrical design and going with a really sharp almost feral look to it that culminates in "teeth" just below the eyes. While this is clearly the most basic color scheme of all the Build suits, it's a drop dead gorgeous design.

Accessories
Thankfully this is one exclusively that really goes the extra difference for parts:

2 - sets of hands. 1 set of open palm expensive hands, 1 set of trigger finger hands for holding the included weapon. These hands of course work just fine for using the Drill Crusher, Twin Breaker, or any other weapon. They do also work just fine for holding the Machine Builder's handlebars.

1 - Hawk Gattling Hazard Form Head. The primary gimmick of this form for Build is the ability to channel all of the Best Matches through the power of the Hazard Trigger, resulting in the different pairs of Compound Eyes seen in show and film. The toy doesn't replicate this gimmick per se, but opts to include this alternate head so you have the option of displaying the figure in the prominent alternate Hazard from the show. Honestly I'd buy the figure again if they re-released it with Kaizoku/Ressha & Same/Bike heads and weapons.

1 - set of Taka & Gattling Full Bottles. As with any full bottle, try not to lose them. And no that wasn't a typo, for some reason the bottle is officially labeled as "Taka" and makes that sound in Build's belt, but in the form transition the callout goes to Hawk. So Hawk Gattling. Odd, but accurate.

1 - Hawk Gatlinger. The signature weapon of Build Hawk Gattling and Hawk Gattling Hazard, this is a pretty basic accessory. Painted in rather uninteresting flat colors, this sidearm doesn't feature any moving parts or gimmicks, so there's no spinning of the chamber like in the show.

Final Thoughts
So yeah, sign me up again Bandai. I'll buy this mold a couple more times if you can include some new heads. The Build mold is really fantastic anyway, but painting it up in a sexy black color scheme with some sweet new accessories is a great way to get me to pick it up again. Build Rabbit Tank Hazard Form is another fantastic figure that really should have been a more standard release. All in all I can understand why it was released as an event exclusive, Bandai made tons of money on this one, but I know that put a lot of people off as well. If you can grab one now for a decent price, I recommend it. If not, then hold out for the upcoming Tamashii Web Exclusive release.

I love regular RabbitTank but I love Hazard even more just because of the straight black color of it.

Honestly I'm biased over this suit cuz it reminds me of the Arkham knight redhood from the game. Is it weird that I'd want them to do more heads for the different best matches that did appear in show, such as smaphowolf?

I was very, very close to ordering this one. Loved the form in the show, excellent looking suit with a great presence. I still think about this shot way too often:



What ultimately lead me to pass on it was that I already had so much Build-stuff on pre-order that I needed to draw a line, only one figure per character. I already got weak with Grease Blizzard but Black Hazard I had to say no to sadly.

It is a great figure though, mostly because of the alternate head and weapon. That's the kinda stuff we need more of these days. And I also wish they went even further, a SmartphoneWolf-head would've been the best.

I love this form. I know it's not like a true power up, but man if that design isn't just my aesthetic.

This is one of those times that I just "liked" a suit in the show but in physical form I "Love" it, just, something about being able to see all those details up close, really makes you appreciate the work gone into what on the quickest of glances looks like "Just another black repaint"

Ok so I'm taking a second look at this figure and I just noticed this design in the helmet.

The mouth section has fangs. Seriously. How have I never noticed there are fangs on the helmet.
