It feels like ages ago when the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic book was a national top-seller thanks to the immensely popular Shattered Grid storyline. Fans were treated to a new villain – an evil Tommy going by the name Lord Drakkon – and a world shattered by his messing with the morphin grid. At the time we went out on a limb and called the work Kyle Higgins did as some of the best stories in the history of the Power Rangers brand.
The work that Kyle Higgins did left an impression on the Power Rangers brand forever. Lord Drakkon is a staple character now and likely will be for years to come. But it would appear that Power Rangers also left an impression on Kyle, as Thursday saw the announcement of his brand new comic Radiant Black via Image Publishing.

Not much is known about Radiant Black as of yet – we know that the power that Nathan holds comes from a black hole and that the power doesn’t belong to him – it belongs to some cosmic beings who are going to want it back. And we can’t wait to find out more!
Radiant Black is written by Kyle Higgins and features artwork by Marcelo Costa. Lettering is done by Becca Carey and editing duties fall to Power Rangers fan at-large Michael Busuttil, known to fans for his work on the Ranger Danger Podcast. Radiant Black Issue 01 releases February 10th 2021 at comic book stores everywhere.
Stay tuned next week as we take an in-depth look at Issue 01 and why this comic absolutely, positively must be on your pull-list.

Who's the publisher and when's the release date?

Oh, neat, this is getting announced finally! Kyle's a friend (blew up my comic shop in an issue of Nightwing, so... I guess maybe "friend"?), and he was telling me about this at C2E2 this past year. It looks like a ton of fun!

And, yeah, Kyle is a legit toku fan. More on the US side of things, but he's working with a huge Ultraman fan on his Marvel book to keep things right, really learning more about what toku is and how it works. This one is... it's like, did you ever read Invincible? By Robert Kirkman? It was Kirkman taking all of his Spider-Man and Marvel fandom, and then creating a sandbox where he could really take risks. This, to hear Kyle describe it, is him taking all of the things he loved about working on MMPR and creating a world where there are no limits on the stories he can tell. He was really passionate about it, and I think it's going to be a winner.

Ah so we've finally got a name (Or at least this is the first I'm hearing of the name), I'm glad I've got something to look out for now in regards to remembering it over being "Kyle Higgins new comic that is Toku Inspired" that I had been seeing for a while now.

Lol, Kirkman's Invincible and the Image comics brand was actually one of my first exposures to comic books back in grade school (thanks to my school library), didn't know he was a marvel guy.
Really psyched for Kyle's Ultraman, again was it a mini series, or was it a full run? I loved his work since Nightwing and have actually tried to meet him multiple times to have him sign my Nightwing #1issue. It blows my mind that you know him. Has he ever done signings at your store?

The Ultraman book is currently three issues in on a five-issue series. If it's successful (#1 had to be reprinted, so I think it did okay!) Marvel will likely do more mini-series.
Kyle's a Chicago guy, so we mostly got to know him because he'd be back in town for family stuff. We've done a few signings with him, when his schedule allows. Nowadays, we run into him for C2E2 and whenever he's in town for family or business. I'd say I see him maybe one or two times a year?

Damn, i didn't realize issue#1 already released. Hopefully i can find #3 and the back issues. If not, hopefully, it'll get a trade release.
Radiant Blacks suit design, art-style, and concept already look amazing. Hopefully, i can snag issue#1 on release.
