Toei Announces Project R.E.D- A New Chapter in Tokusatsu!

Posted on November 23, 2025 at 3:41 pm by Paladin under General Tokusatsu News

Toei has announced a new tokusatsu project intending to focus on heroes beyond the realms of Kamen Rider and Super Sentai–

This new venture is titled Project R.E.D.– short for Records of Extraordinary Dimensions.

The first hero of this new Project R.E.D. was previously hinted at via trademark: Space Sheriff Gavan Infinity! Infinity is a new story set apart from the original Gavan series but hopefully retaining the spirit of the first production.

A partial teaser for the new Gavan Infinity suit is shown, hinting at this new hero with a red metallic armor suit.

Further details about Project R.E.D. and Space Sheriff Gavan Infinity are expected in the near future!

\A New Brand in the Special Effects Series is Born/

    2026 A New Series Featuring a Red Hero 【PROJECT R.E.D.】 Launches!!

The Commemorative First Work is 『Super Space Cop Gavan Infinity』 A New Heroic Tale Begins.Broadcast Starts in 2026!

    【Every Sunday】 9:30 AM - 10:00 AM2026—a new legend begins... The new tokusatsu series 【PROJECT R.E.D.】 launches!

In 2026—within the framework of the beloved 【Super Sentai Series】, cherished for 50 years since 1975—a new tokusatsu hero series, 【PROJECT R.E.D.】, launches.Taking its name from the initials of the English translation of “Records of Extraordinary Dimensions”, this PROJECT R.E.D. is, as the name suggests, a new tokusatsu series featuring a “red hero”. This series plans multifaceted developments, such as crossovers between various upcoming broadcasts to add depth to each world's setting.50 years of history, reaching new heights. In 2026, you will witness a new legend.

The commemorative first installment is decided: ‘Super Space Cop Gavan Infinity’! Inheriting the innovation of the original hero while building its worldview from scratch, this is the reborn Gavan!!The commemorative first installment of 【PROJECT R.E.D.】 is Super Space Cop Gavan Infinity.

Seeing this title likely brings back fond memories for many. ‘Space Cop Gavan’ (1982-1983) was a hugely popular series depicting the exploits of a hero battling a space crime syndicate to protect Earth. In the 80s, this legendary work captivated fans not only in Japan but worldwide with the striking impression made by its hero in his metallic suit. While inheriting its innovative elements—such as its uniquely iconic hero visuals and sci-fi elements set in space—the 2026 Super Space Cop Gavan: Infinity is something entirely different!

It is a completely new “Gavan” built from scratch using the latest visual effects and production techniques.

The “future predictions” people held in the 80s—AI, space exploration, space ventures—are now reality. Precisely because of today's remarkable technological advances, the visual expression and realistically resonant story construction make the birth of the reborn Gavan possible.

His metallic body glows red... The stylish visuals are unveiled at top speed! Furthermore, as the first installment of the series centered around the theme of “Red Hero” championed by [PROJECT R.E.D.], the protagonist hero: Gavan Infinity also sports a metallic red combat suit! The newly revealed visual showcases the coolest hero look yet, with his metallic body glowing red. Anticipation is already building for the full reveal to come.

‘Super Space Cop Gavan Infinity’ depicts the stylish exploits of a red hero using cutting-edge technology. Details on intriguing characters and the story will be announced later, so stay tuned for further updates.

Huh, I wonder if "Project R.E.D." is the Japanese term for the "Universe Heroes" thing that has been going around? I kind of wish the concept for this series wasn't "red heroes" to be honest though, I always liked the fact main Kamen Riders could be any color. It almost sounds like the new series will be some kind of Shared Toei Hero Universe judging by their emphasis on crossovers with "upcoming broadcasts" (later entries in the Project R.E.D. series?). Regardless, they're definitely billing this as a full on Sentai successor, to the point that maybe some of the later shows in the series will just be new Sentai seasons.

I think I am actually even more confused about what is going on now than when there were just rumors flying around. Well, I hope it turns out well!

I understand that Project Red is a new franchise, which Super Sentai was retroactively made a part of, since their main characters also wear red (Zenkaiger felt even more out of place than before). And that's probably why Gavan was chosen as the hero, since he has a similar story. The Space Sheriffs franchise existed before the name Metal Heroes was officially introduced. So, in a sense, history is repeating itself.
Regarding the glowing red body, I understand that Gavan's updated, familiar design will be supplemented with glowing red stripes, like Zeztz's base form. Ultimately, Toei doesn't want him confused with Sharivan.
So, now I'm tormented by another thought: when will a modern version of Zubat appear in Project Red? Especially since he's already red.

Thank god we can finally kill those obnoxious rebrand rumors. The announcement makes it clear this is a brand new franchise which has the potential to crossover with other Toei franchises.

Also, I can't help but laugh at just making Gavan red because of his name recognition when we already have a red Space Sheriff.

Looking forward to this and the unrelated MKP project by Uchusen magazine, Masaru Yamashita, and Koichi Nakayama as well. Metal Heroes are back, BABYYYYYYY.

All I need now is a next-gen mechanical dragon with a UFO attached to it.

Speaking of, it'd be funny if the supposed new Dolgiran or Dolgiran equivalent happens to have a humanoid form and resemble Ryuseioh.
