Wild Access!
The Power Ranger Super Megaforce dry spell has ended thanks to photo & content member conundrum! So with that we’re back with a brand new gallery, and this time it’s the Wild Force Red Lion Zord!
The Red Lion is of course based on the mighty Gao Lion from Gaoranger, specifically based on his Gokaiger version of the character and his DX toy. Red Lion like Gao Lion features two unique combos with the Legendary Megazord. One a centaur like mode that serves as the Power Rangers Wild Force homage. The other is a massive samurai armor form that pays homage to Power Rangers Samurai. So far these forms are unnamed in the show, the toy packaging hasn’t given a name for them either. Their Japanese counterparts are Gao Gokai Oh and Shinken Gokai Oh respectively.

Unlock the Power!
The new season of Power Rangers Super Megaforce is underway and today we're taking a look at the DX Wild Force Red Lion Zord from the Super Megaforce toyline.
The figure is a Bandai of America adaptation of the DX Gokai Machine Gao Lion from Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger and in turn, represents the Legendary Power of both the Power Rangers Wild Force and Power Rangers Samurai teams.
As part of the Zord Builder line, Red Lion is chock full of ports and pegs that allow for an endless amount of combinations with other compatible figures. Aside from the standard 'Lion' mode, there are two other configurations shown in the instructions that utilize parts of the Fire Smasher, helmet crest, and 'boosters'.
Red Lion comes packaged with a Wild Force Red Ranger Key that can be used to launch simple pressure missiles from the Lion's mouth. The Key can also be used to open the chest panel of the Legendary Megazord and again, fire a missile.
The figure breaks down into 12 separate parts and can be combined with the DX Legendary Megazord to form 2 different combinations. The first is a 'Centaur Mode' similar to the configuration the 'Giant' Red Lion and Wild Force Megazord had in Wild Force and the second is a take on the combo seen in-show. This second combination, yet-to-be-named in show, is a solid configuration and possibly one of the best Auxiliary Zord powered-up forms we've seen from this toy line. The 'Wild Samurai' combo can wield an over-sized Fire Smasher as it's weapon or the standard Sabers can attach to the Lion's 'boosters' to form a long, double bladed staff.
Overall, The Wild Force Red Lion auxiliary Zord is a fun figure and a 'decent' representation of it's on-screen counterpart that also offers a lot of play value. So far, the only downside to this figure is how hard it seems to come by.

Wild Force! One of my favorites and the series that got me started. I actually want this guy, he looks better than the japanese version the way he combines to me.

The combined mode is awful. I have seen so many people try and defend it by saying it looks more "streamlined" or "samuraiesque" or what have you (neither of which are particularly true), but it in reality it just looks dismal compared to Samurai Gokaioh. The legs sticking out over the shoulders do not even slightly look like shoulder pads, they just look like lion legs sticking out the sides. There has been no effort to hide that.
The Lion also suffers. The big Fire Smasher sticking out his behind is so obvious it hurts and the lack of an opening feature hurts the idea of it being a Wild Force Zord with the Samurai Kanji absolutely everywhere.
This figure is probably the worst out of the SMF line until Fuuraimaru's reveal and I honestly don't get the praise it undeservingly seems to get. All the others got away with being very simple to begin with, but this guy just makes so many compromises that the end result is just not good.
As for positives... The bigger Fire Smasher is pretty cool, even if it manages to ruin the entire back portion of the lion while doing it.
I always seem like a negative nelly in the SMF Galleries. But really, I just think the line is a big miss.
THAT SAID, these photos are absolutely beautiful.

I just got this in the mail today from Amazon along with the other Aux Zords, and I have to say it's my favorite. Not perfect of course, but still the best IMO.

I don't think the samurai mode looks more streamlined or whatever. I just think it looks better than Shinken GokaiOh's toy by virtue of that toy looking kind of completely a mess in the arms.
