“Cast Off: Change, Stag Beetle!”
Toku Toy Box continues with another gallery of a recent release. Today’s subject was long overdue, and thankfully the wait has been worth it. S.H. Figuarts Shinkocchou Seihou Kamen Rider Gattack is yet another incredible entry into Bandai’s high end line of renewals.
Kamen Rider Gattack is of course the secondary rider of Kabuto & the case can definitely be made that he’s the real star of the show. And thanks to the fantastic engineering of the S.S. Kabuto body, this star really gets the chance to shine. Gattack includes the full range of articulation previously seen with Kabuto and brings his own gorgeous color scheme and accessories to the party. Both of Gattack’s Double Caliburs are included & they can combine for his Rider Cutting finish. Also, unlike Kabuto, Gattack even includes an alternate version of his Zecter! To see how vastly improved this figure is you can also check out our S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider Gattack (Original Release) gallery.
We’ve attached a selection of images to this post but you can view the entire 60 image gallery below by clicking “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums” at the bottom of this post. We’ll be back in two days with the next gallery for Toku Toy Box!

Change, Stag Beetle!
In September we took a look back at a fairly old release with the oroginal S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider Gattack. That helped get us prepped and pumped for today's subject, the all-new and improved S.H. Figuarts Shinkocchou Seihou Kamen Rider Gattack!
Rider Cutting!
Packaging
That wonderful premium Shinkocchou Seihou packaging returns! I recently said it when I reviewed Kuuga Ultimate Form, but this type of slipcover box really works for me. And it continues to sell the nature of the S.S. releases as a truly premium line. Plus, that cover artwork!
Main Figure
You may recall that when I looked back at the original Gattack release there were some pretty big issues. Granted that's a 5 year old figure, but the problems that exist in the original Kabuto line make them kind of eyesores in a modern collection. Well, to put it simply, Shinkocchou Seihou Gattack fixes every single one of them and looks dead sexy while doing it. For a quick idea of what this figure is like you can read through my old S.S. Kabuto review. These two figuarts share most of the same body parts with a few keys differences. But it's pretty clear that even after 2 years, the Kabuto style body that began the Shinkocchou Seihou line is still very very strong.
S.S. Gattack is the one release I was probably most excited for than any other in this line. As an unashamed fan of the series, and a die hard fan of Gattack as the "real" main character, I couldn't be happier with this figuart. Much like S.S. Kabuto, the articulation is nuts on this thing. The new (I guess now old?) style hips provide a wide and balanced motion that allows you to replicate some of Gattack's most iconic poses & attacks. The arms are free of nearly all obstruction thanks to wonderfully hinged shoulder pads. The waist/ab area has incredible flexibility as well. I would say the hips are liited only by their design as they do impact the waist assembly a little more prematurely than I'd like.
The same type of peg style hands featured on Kabuto are present here. It's still kind of odd that this type of hand has been so infrequently used. Not every S.S. Figuart has it even, which is odd. Of the 9 Shinkocchou Seihou releases thus far, only Kabuto & Gattack use this system. And Gattack doesn't even include the hand tree to store them. As I said way back when with Kabuto, I still don't really like them. They're fine, they get the job done, but I can't help but feel something is lost without a ball joint in the wrist. But that's a very minor nitpick.
All in all this is a solidly built figure. About the only issue I've found with him is the head. The sculpt is dead on, it's finally the appropriate size & color, and it looks gorgeous (mine has one irritating silver fleck in the left eye). But the neck cuff prevents the head from tilting back and side to side as much as I'd like. That's probably my one gripe. The paint apps are masterful (eye issue aside), and thankfully Gattack's body is finally in the appropriate blue & gold colors. The gold accents finally look good on this release, the old one just looked so dull and you could barely see it on the folds of the armor. Speaking of, Gattack doesn't have poseable pecks like Kabuto did, though on Kabuto I never found they served much purpose.
With this gallery I tried to replicate all of the shots from my original Gattack gallery, just to demonstrate how much of an improvement the Shinkocchou Seihou is. In functionality & personality, Kagami has never looked better. Pairing him with Kabuto is one of the more satisfying things I've gotten to do recently.
Accessories
As a far as Tamashii Web Exclusives go, Shinkocchou Seihou Gattack comes with a better than average accessory count. He does come with more or less everything he should. No glaring omissions but nothing over the top either:
3 - sets of additional hands. At least one set is pretty redundant. You get two sets of holding things hands. I know the 2nd set is meant for the Gattack Extender bike, but they're basically identical to the hands for holding weapons. I would have preferred some kind of expressive set of hands instead.
1 - Gattack Double Calibur set. These combining shotels are normally stored on his shoulders when not in use (though he can be often seen in show without them at all). When attached they can tend to get in the way of Gattack's head but angling them out of the way is pretty simple. I feel like they add a unique flare to his costume, and shoulder mounted weapons are certainly a feature you don't see much in toku costumes. He can use them individually like short swords or combine them into a pair scissor like mandibles for use with his Rider Cutting finisher. This set isn't largely different from those that came with the original but they do look much better thanks to more accurate paint applications. And the pegs on them look far less generic if that makes sense.
1 - Gattack Zecter. This version of the Zecter is the standard pre-henshin state of it. When the Zecter is flying around towards Kagami. You can put it on the belt as well to to replicate finishers but it does kind of suck that it isn't engineered like the Kabuto Zecter was. I know it just had a simple hinge but it was basically functional. Now I can't even have both detached Zecters at once since Kabutos' is non-removeable. I don't see too many reasons for this one to be included but it's fine for what it is.
Again, no glaring omissions that I can think of. A Hyper Zecter would have been a fun inclusion but that wasn't very likely anyway. And Unlike S.S. Kabuto, Gattack does not include the "hand tree" to store the extras on when not in use. Which seems odd considering Gattack is one of the very very few figuarts to share this strange peg style of hand. In fact being only the second Shinkocchou Seihou release to have them.
Final Thoughts
As with any release in this line, I'm mostly floored by how fantastic it is. S.H. Figuarts Shinkocchou Seihou Kamen Rider Gattack is the premium modern update that this rider deserves. After settling for years for the disappointing and now totally outclassed original figure, I could not be happier with this one. As a Tamashii Web Exclusive you'll have needed to use a Middleman or web service to order Gattack. And while that inflates his already pricey nature, I promise you he is well worth it.

Still need to see Kabuto
and almost every other rider series, as a matter of fact...
Anyway, splendid gallery, and splendid toy!

I love Gatack's design and honestly if any figure could push me over the edge into finally collecting Figuarts, it's him.
I even named my Vikivolt in Pokémon Moon "Gatack" because he's my favorite secondary rider.

Having not seen Kabuto, this was never a figure I was looking to get, but it definitely looks very impressive. The design is great and the sculpt looks on-point, and the two Riders really compliment each other very well.
Kamen Rider Lucha says
Kabuto has a lukewarm reputation among fans, to say the least. But its designs -- literally all of them -- are spot on. They're probably the purest modern update of the classic Rider aesthetic.
I'll watch the show someday just because of the excellent design work.

The Rider designs in Kabuto are some of my absolute favorites, and Kagami is my favorite character in Kabuto too. I would die to have this figure.
Enchilada645 says
Gattack was always a neat rider design in my opinion, it's nice to see him remade alongside Kabuto, it really makes the two even in terms of appearance now.
ZeltraxMillenium says
I'd love to own Gatack's new figure sometime in my life.
