There’s been a lot of discourse over the last couple days regarding “mainstream popularity” and “tokusatsu”, with the implication being inferred that in order to achieve mainstream popularity a property needs to drop the elements of tokusatsu.  We’re happy to report that is not the case and the best example of that is the Massive-verse, a series of creator owned comic books inspired by tokusatsu from Image Comics and written by some of your favorite Power Rangers creators (Kyle Higgins, Ryan Parrott, Melissa Flores, and Mat Groom).

One of those properties – Inferno Girl Red – currently has a live Kickstarter to fund it’s second graphic novel!  Of all the comic books in the Massive-verse, Inferno Girl Red is easily the most tokusatsu-inspired of them all, from the look of the character to how the character activates their powers.

You only have 8 days left to back this project – and it still needs a rally to happen!

under Super Sentai

The next Super Sentai series title has been revealed thanks to @Trademark_bot!  The official title is Bakuage Sentai BoonBoomger.  Obviously, fans are speculating but there is no official information available and won’t be for months to come.  However, known leakers are already scrambling to verify information that has been whispered for weeks.

If anything concrete comes out we will be sure to share it with you.

UPDATE: Word is we are looking at the return of a vehicle-based Sentai, with rumored “crashing” combining gimmicks utilizing magnets. All of this is strictly rumors and should only be looked at as rumor/speculation for the time being. We’ve updated the wording in our story to reflect this.

Two years ago, writer Mat Groom (Mighty Morphin, Marvel’s Ultraman, Image’s Self/Made) and artist Erica D’Urso (Captain Marvel, Xena: Warrior Princess) launched their co-created graphic novel superhero, Inferno Girl Red, on Kickstarter and took the comics world and tokusatsu community by storm!  The book was fully funded and then some and even managed to see an actual retail release at comic book stores.  To say it was a success is simply not true – it was a massive hit!  And now it’s time to relive the magic with the Inferno Girl Red Book 2 Kickstarter!

With a needed funding goal of $85,000, Inferno Girl Red Book 2 looks to continue the story of Cássia Costa after the dramatic events from the first Inferno Girl Red book.  Mat Groom and Erica D’Urso return as co-creators and as writer and artist, but they’re not alone!  Rejoining the group from the first book is Igor Monti on colors, Becca Carey on letters, Kyle Higgins as editor, and Michael Busuttil as the glue that kind of puts it all together.

In the upcoming second half of Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger, we will see the return of Kyoryu Red from Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger!  To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Kyoryuger, Bandai is bringing back Kyoryu Red to Super Sentai as well as his mecha – DX Kyoryujin Full Action Version!  A new suit and a new weapon – the King Gaburicalibur – are also coming.

The new DX Kyoryujin Full Action Version features added articulation, the lack of the need to use Zyudenchi to combine, and the ability to combine with all the mecha from Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger.

Today marks the premiere of the brand new series, Kamen Rider Gotchard, and Bandai Japan has listed the episode on their YouTube page without region lock.  Fans all over the world can check out the first episode free on YouTube.  Check out the episode below.  NOTE:  There are no subtitles available on this upload of Kamen Rider Gotchard.  You’ll have to wait for your favorite fansubs for that.

Thanks to Toy Scope on Facebook, we have our first look at the upcoming Power Rangers Lightning Collection Master Morpher! This roleplay item was featured exclusively in the 25th anniversary episode “Dimensions in Danger”, as Tommy Oliver used it to morph in to all his different Power Rangers forms.

It was also featured in the graphic novel Soul of the Dragon as well as the upcoming 30th Anniversary Special comic from BOOM! Studios.

Pricing and release details are unknown. Fan speculation is that this item will be revealed for release at Hasbro Pulsecon at the end of this month. However, with the toy line currently on hiatus, who knows if this item even sees release.
