Introducing Marcelo Matere – Dragonzord vs Megazord Commission

Posted on August 14, 2014 at 12:43 am by Chris under Conventions, Power Rangers, San Diego Comic Con

If you’re a fan of Transformers then I don’t need to introduce you to Marcelo Matere because chances are you’ve already seen his work or you’ve met him personally at the various Transformers conventions. But if you’re not familiar with him or his work, please allow us the pleasure of introducing you!

Marcelo Matere has been a Transformers artist for over a decade now and has been working on official Hasbro products for years. Chances are you probably own a product that has his artwork as the packaging art. I personally have known Marcelo for many, many years now and consider him a dear friend. And I know just how amazing of an artist he is when it comes to drawing robots. So when I learned that he was going to be attending San Diego Comic Con 2014 I decided to see if he would do a commission work for me – I wanted to see how amazing he could make the Dragonzord and the original Megazord look as they engage each other in battle.

I was blown away as was everyone else I showed the artwork to – including Bandai of America. Even without the use of colors and just markers he managed to capture exactly what I wanted – an epic piece of artwork depicting everyone’s two favorite zords battling it out. Check out the image by clicking the news story.

Be sure to follow Marcelo Matere and let him know how much you love his work! I think everyone in Ranger Nation will agree – this guy needs to be doing professional work for Power Rangers!

– Follow Marcelo @marcelomatere on Twitter!
– Be sure to “Like” his work at Facebook.com/MarceloMatereArt
– Visit his professional website at www.marcelomatere.com
– Check out his Deviant Art profile at MarceloMatere.DeviantArt.com

A huge special thanks to our good friend Marcelo Matere who we got to spend some time with (but not nearly enough time) at this year’s San Diego Comic Con 2014. Please be sure to give this guy tons of love!

Matt Jayson’s Power Ranger Short Film – “The Ranger”

Posted on August 12, 2014 at 2:11 pm by Chris under Power Rangers

In this day and age there are a lot of short films being created by fans of different properties who are now all grown up. Power Rangers seems to bring a lot of kids from the 90’s who are now fully functioning adults back in to the foray as they put their own ideas and take-aways from the show in to their own short film. There have been many awesome short films, one of the most notable being Zordon of Eltar, but today we have been gifted with another great short film – The Ranger, directed by Matt Jayson.

To set it up – it takes place 20+ years after the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and focuses mostly on the character Jason. We also hear about the fate of Billy and are hinted at a fate for Kimberly. It really show cases what a real-life version of a teenager being recruited to fight an alien army would go through AFTER losing their teenage years to a battle and then never being needed again – and it does it perfectly without coming across as “dark” or “gritty”.

What are you waiting for? Click here to watch “The Ranger” by Matt Jayson on FunnyOrDie.com!

Personally? The ending of this gave me goosebumps. And if you’re a fan of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, it will probably give you goosebumps too. Please join in our discussion of this little film. Is this how a fan film should be done? Are you hoping that Matt Jayson does more? Sound off!

Austin St. John Teases Possibility of Returning to Power Rangers

Posted on August 6, 2014 at 8:10 pm by Chris under Power Rangers

With the upcoming season finale of Power Rangers Super Megaforce, we will see the return of many cast members from previous seasons of Power Rangers, including the likes of Jason Faunt, Melody Perkins, Danny Slavin, Hector David Jr., Britney Pirtle, Patricia Lee, Reggie Rolle, Sean Johnson, Alison MacInnis, Selwyin Ward, and of course, Jason David Frank. But with the announcement of a new Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie and the next series to be produced, a dinosaur themed show titled Power Rangers Dino Charge, a lot of fans have been clamoring for more Rangers to return – specifically as many of the original cast of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers as possible.

And while nothing is guaranteed or promised, one can only assume that the powers of Saban Brands would not only like to keep the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in the spotlight for as long as possible, but would love for an opportunity to bring back as many older fans to the franchise as possible. And the best way to do that is to bring back some of their classic heroes – and one that has been picking up steam in terms of popularity is none other than the original Red Ranger, Austin St. John.

On his official Facebook page, Austin St. John posted just the other day something that should get all the fans excited and pumped – ”IF” he were to return, would you want him in the show, the movie, and what would his role be? He specifically mentions that the powers that be are watching his page. If you want the original back to action, this is where you as a fan have to step up and take part!

Click here to see his Facebook page – be sure to “Like” it! And once you’ve done that, help spread the word to all the other Power Rangers fans out there – ”Like” and “Share” this post about his possible return! Who wouldn’t love to see Austin St. John return as the Silver Ranger in Power Rangers Dino Charge? Who says Bragigas can’t be a new Titanus? Help spread the word and let’s bring back the original Power Ranger!

Power Morphicon Update – Action Card Game Tournament, Guest Availability Updates

Posted on August 1, 2014 at 1:47 am by Chris under Conventions, Power Morphicon, Power Rangers

Just because there wasn’t an official update from Power Morphicon this week doesn’t mean that news didn’t break! For starters – if you haven’t registered yet we’re sorry to inform you that registration has ended. To attend the show you will now have to buy a pass at the show the day of the show each day. We can’t say we didn’t warn you though! And now for the rest of the news!

It was announced that there will be an official tournament for the defunct Power Rangers Action Card Game! For those who collected, sets one through four were released here in the United States, while set five was released only in Europe. However, the tournament will be open to anyone who would like to participate and they can use any of the cards and promo cards ever released. There will be prizes for the winner(s), including an entire set of the unreleased series 5 and more! Stay tuned for updates on how to enter so you can play.

Now on to the sad news – Jason Smith, better known as Casey the Jungle Fury Red Ranger has cancelled his appearance at the show. He has promised, however, to do some fun fan related events, contests, and so forth in the future. But we can’t end on bad news – so let’s bring up some good news! Previously cancelled guest Alyson Kiperman, who played Taylor the Wild Force Yellow Ranger, has rescheduled to appear on Saturday only! This is great news for those who were bummed about their Wild Force group photo opportunity. Don’t forget to get to the show early so you can grab your Jungle Fury Violet Ranger & Titanium Ranger Key Pack Exclusive – a sure-fire hit as it looks to be the only way to get the Titanium Ranger key!

TokuNation.com is proud to be attending this year’s Official Power Morphicon and will bring you any news as it breaks, as well as tons of pictures and so forth. Our coverage will be light – we’re going as fans! We will be joined by our good friends from the Ranger Command Power Hour Podcast, and a group event with our own Talkin Toku Podcast is being planned. We’ll see you at the show!

Beyond Toku – SDCC 2014 Gundam Displays from Bluefin Distribution

Posted on July 29, 2014 at 11:56 pm by Chris under Conventions, San Diego Comic Con, TokuNation, TokuNation Spotlights

While we were at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, we were amazed at the amount of attention, and just how amazing, the Gundam displays were getting at the Bluefin Distribution booth. So while this is totally not tokusatsu, we know there’s a lot of fans of Gundam and Gunpla out there, so we took over 100 images of what they had on display, prettied up the images a bit, and now want to share them with you.

Click the title bar to see all 100 plus images and join in the discussion thread if you’re a Gundam fan. And if you guys love it enough, who knows, maybe it’s something we’ll feature more often on our front page. Special thanks to Bluefin for creating such an awesome display and for drawing the crowds to look at all the beautiful ‘robits’!
