Shout! Factory Teases Power Rangers Legacy DVD Collection Bonus Features

Posted on September 19, 2013 at 2:30 am by Chris under Super Sentai

The ultimate Power Rangers DVD collection is only a couple of months away (December 3rd) from being at your doorsteps. With a limited run of 2000 copies being made, each individually numbered, time is running out for you to order your set! To help influence your decision, Brian Ward of Shout! Factory took to YouTube to give you a little insight on what the DVD of bonus features that’s exclusive to this set has to offer you.

  • Music retrospective with Ron Wasserman
  • Writing the Legacy with Tony Oliver, Doug Sloan, Jackie Marachand, and more
  • A look at the Villains with Robert Axelrod, Barbara Goodsend, Vernon Wells, and more
  • The SDCC 2012 20th Anniversary Panel
  • Green Ranger Kata
  • And more!

This set, along with every single season of Power Rangers spanning from the first episode of Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers to the last episode of the current season of Power Rangers Megaforce, comes with a 100 page booklet, a total of 6 DVDs of bonus features (1 DVD being the exclusive content listed above), and probably the coolest DVD holder known to mankind with the Red Ranger helmet (note: you can’t wear it).

Pre-order your copy by clicking here! Keep in mind, it’s a steep $650 but can you really pass up this opportunity?

NOTE: It was stated back around SDCC 2013 (but not covered much) that the ONLY way to get Samurai/Super Samurai/Megaforce complete seasons was to purchase this collection, as Lionsgate holds the DVD rights to these new seasons. We will look in to this and see if that statement is still true.

Reiko Chiba says "Burai" Returning for Zyuranger Special

Posted on September 16, 2013 at 10:49 pm by Chris under Super Sentai

The developments continue to build regarding exactly what the Zyurangers (the Sentai series that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers used the footage from) have coming up that actress Reiko Chiba, who played the Pink Pteraranger, revealed on Twitter!

Originally revealed a month ago that she and the other actors from Zyuranger had been contacted by TOEI, Rekio Chiba has all but confirmed that it is Kyoryuger related via twitter.

Dukemon22 has already reported that there is a Zyuranger/Kyoryuger “meet-up” in the works planned for the end of the series.

Responding to a fan question on whether or not Burai the Green Dragonranger would return or not seeing as his character in the show would, uh, how do we put this, “have a lot of explaining as to why he’s there”, Reiko added that indeed, “Burai” is involved with the Zyuranger special. We’re hoping this means that Shiro Izumi is rejoining his fellow cast.

This is notable because Shrio Izumi is retired, and has not been involved in acting, or anything Super Sentai related, in many, many years.

But as to what exactly the Zyuranger special is, we just don’t know yet. But it’s safe to say it’s Kyoryuger related, AND, Burai is returning!

Stay tuned, this one promises to be special.

Amit Bhaumik’s Original Power Rangers Samurai Proposal

Posted on September 1, 2013 at 1:28 am by Chris under Power Rangers

In 2010, Saban Brands purchased back the rights of the Power Rangers franchise from Disney, signaling a rebirth of the franchise right as it began to approach it’s 20th anniversary. The returning executive producer of many seasons of the franchise, Jonathan Tzachor, reached out to former Power Rangers scribe Amit Bhaumik (writer of the fan-favorite “Forever Red” anniversary episode of Power Rangers Wild Force) to help adapt the Japanese series Samurai Sentai Shinkenger to Power Rangers Samurai.

Working for free and as a favor, Amit wrote character biographies and a base storyline for the series and how it could be adapted. Citing “creative differences” and a “different plan or lack thereof”, we got the Power Rangers Samurai series that we know today – one that kids loved and older fans seemed to dislike.

We see a return to Power Rangers lore with the action happening in Stone Canyon, the rival city and school to Angel Grove, where the original Power Rangers hailed from.

There are some similarities though – Bulk is listed as a character, though instead of being totally inept and dim, he not only knows of Power Rangers but works FOR the Power Rangers – and “Spike” appeared as “Junior”, the son of Bulk, not Skull. And on top of that, “Junior” would create the Gold Samurai Ranger powers and be the traditional “shows up to save the day” 6th Ranger until his identity is revealed.

It’s an interesting read and we invite you to take a look at Amit’s blog.

Click here to read Amit Bhaumik’s original proposal for “Power Rangers Samurai”!

Many cite that the downfall of Power Rangers could eventually happen because of Jonathan Tzachor – it has been whispered among various circles that the marketing department had to step in for Power Rangers Super Megaforce to have an anniversary episode, as Tzachor had no plans for one, hence the “last minute” invites and the fact that it shoves 10 previous Rangers in to one 22 minute episode.

What do you think of this proposal? As an older fan would you have enjoyed this more, or is this just “fanfiction” in your eyes, and wouldn’t make for a good show? Chime in and give us your thoughts!!
