Saban Brands Extends Use of "Power Rider" Trademark

Posted on November 14, 2012 at 4:48 pm by Chris under Kamen Rider

Does anyone remember when Saban Brands filed a trademark use for the term Power Rider, and rampant speculation began that Saban was going to adapt a Kamen Rider series in the United States?

Well, in short, nothing ever came of it.

The rumor mills thought that because of the crossover footage in Shinkenger (Power Rangers Samurai) with Kamen Rider Decade that Saban was planning to use that footage and then spin-off the appearance with Kamen Rider Decade as Power Rider.

Again, nothing ever came of it.

Thanks to our friends at Firestarter’s Blog we know that Saban Brands has once again filed for, and was granted, the use of the name Power Rider.

Will anything come of it this time?

A popular thought here at TokuNation was that Saban would adapt over the Kamen Rider Fourze series. While unpopular with adults, the series was popular with the younger demographic and the amount of sales generated from the roleplay gear, etc., more than proves that the merchandise sold very well. Take in to effect that the setting is high school with teenagers, and the overall easy-to-tie-in merchandise, it still seems like a no-brainer.

Speculate away, Tokusatsu fans!

Possible Design Prototype for Zyuden Sentai Kyouryuger

Posted on November 10, 2012 at 2:17 pm by Chris under Super Sentai

We don’t like to post up rumors when it comes to upcoming Super Sentai and Kamen Rider series because we like to wait until we have a more solid validation. In the history of reveals, very seldomly do the first details ever turn out to be accurate.

But for the sake of tradition, a possible Kyouryuger suit design surfaced a couple of days ago. The history of these designs usually retain some of the concept but the final version is more often than not a different look. The storyline for Kyouryuger is uknown – there are rumors that it involves everything from dinosaur hunters to dinosaur protectors to time traveling dinosaur rights activists.

The suit looks to mix elements from GoBuster, Dekaranger, and depending on whom you ask, some Zyuranger and Boukenger. Whether or not this is accurate or even comes to pass in a final design will not be known until probably December, which is when magazine reveals tend to happen.

What do you think?

Click here and join our massive rumor/speculation thread regarding Kyouryuger!

For fun, the folks at Henshin Grid have an on-going “first image” post from Timeranger to Kyouryuger. Check it out and compare this image with some of the images there. Henshin Grid’s look at reveals!

We’ll post any new concrete information as it comes available!

2005 Network News – RUMOR: Disney Interested in Hasbro Inc?

Posted on November 5, 2012 at 6:10 pm by Chris under Network News and Updates

From time to time we like to post news from our 2005 Network sites that we are a part of – TFW2005.COM, HissTank.com, ToyArk.com, and Thundercats.WS. That being said, there’s a major rumor circling the Internet today and we wanted to share it with everyone here … seeing as there’s some history in the world of Tokusatsu when someone mentions the House of Mouse, or Disney.

From MTV Geek News:

“OK folks, take this one with a grain of plastic for the time being. Unless you’ve been under a rock, you’ve heard that Disney acquired Lucasfilm for roughly $4 billion last week and Marvel for around the same price a few years prior. Well, we have it on good authority that serious discussions are happening at the highest levels of both Disney and Hasbro to fold the largest toy and game company on the planet into the Mouse.

From what we’re told, these are still just discussions at this point, but serious enough that something could be announced at any time and create ripples throughout the entertainment industry. “

The company Hasbro Inc. is the owner of two major franchises that our 2005 Network covers – Transformers and G.I. Joe. Whereas when Disney purchased the Saban Entertainment library and got Power Rangers television rights out of it, Hasbro is the sole owner of Transformers, G.I. Joe, My Little Pony, and more. Not only that, Hasbro makes the toys for those said franchises (not to mention both Marvel and Star Wars). To sum it up, it would be like if Disney purchased TOEI, Bandai, and Saban Brands in one foul swoop.

Share your thoughts and your comments for our Transformers and G.I. Joe fans! Should they be excited about this possible development? Or should they fear that Disney is going to end the war between the Autobots and Decepticons, as well as G.I. Joe and COBRA, forever?
