How Power Rangers Failed to Deliver at SDCC 2017

Posted on July 25, 2017 at 1:56 pm by Chris under Power Rangers, San Diego Comic Con

I had the extreme pleasure of attending San Diego Comic Con 2017. This was my fourth year attending and covering the event for our network and every year by the time you go home you’re left dizzy from everything you’ve just experienced. As the sole representative of TokuNation.com my primary focus is to cover all things tokusatsu related, or in the case of American entertainment, that means Power Rangers.

San Diego Comic Con is the largest pop culture convention in the entire world. The number of attendees ranges upwards of 100,000 guests and anyone who has attended the convention will tell you that is no “generous number” … it’s a reality. And this year whispers are it was the largest convention ever. Literally every major entertainment company, regardless of whether or not they have their own convention earlier or later, brings their A game because this is the one time a year that the entire world is watching in anticipation for what you have to show.

This year the Power Rangers brand failed to not only to capture any of the magic or attention they might have acquired from their major motion picture release earlier this year, they failed to show up at all. Please click “Read More” for our in-depth analysis of why this wasn’t just one of the worst years for Power Rangers at San Diego Comic Con but why it may be the worst ever.

  • Has diecast metal

  • Interactive like in the show (the blade portion moves up and down, the staff opens up when the button is pressed)
  • Due in retail Fall 2018

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Issue 20 Takes Us to 1969

Posted on July 13, 2017 at 1:57 pm by Chris under Power Rangers

Thanks to an exclusive reveal at IGN, we have the first image of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Issue 20 as well as the first bombshells of the issue itself – that the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers we know and love today were not the first Power Rangers chosen by Zordon and Alpha 5. Who are our heroes from the year 1969?

  • Igor, a 21 year old male Soviet KGB Agent
  • Jamie, a 24 year old female British singer/songwriter
  • Terona, a 21 year old male war veteran
  • Daniel, an 18 year old student who is also an activist/protestor
  • Grace, a 21 year old head secretary of NASA who wants to be an astronaut

Why were these five chosen as Power Rangers? What type of villain(s) did they have to fight? And most importantly – what happened to them? Hopefully we’ll get our answers soon! Expect more details next week at San Diego Comic Con. Please make sure to follow us on Twitter (@TokuNation), Instagram (@TokuNation), as well as Facebook (/TokuNation) for complete coverage of this year’s show!

BOOM! Studios San Diego Comic Con Power Rangers Exclusives Revealed

Posted on June 29, 2017 at 12:12 pm by Chris under Power Rangers, San Diego Comic Con

Stop the presses because a comic book company has a comic book exclusive at a comic convention! Hidden amongst the throngs of fans that will undoubtedly stand in long lines for a chance at a valuable convention toy exclusive, BOOM! Studios – the makers of the beloved and critically acclaimed Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic book series – have revealed their upcoming exclusives for San Diego Comic Con 2017!

This four piece connected set that pays homage to the classic Jim Lee cover of the launch of the original second X-Men comic book series (titled “X-Men” instead of “Uncanny X-Men”) will be available in four different covers – Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #17, Go Go Power Rangers #1 (A), Go Go Power Rangers #1 (B), and the 2017 Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Annual. You can also purchase the gatefold version (all four connected together, physically) for a solid benjamin ($100).

Each comic will cost $20 (so $80 to complete the 4 cover set or $180 to get everything total) and is available at the BOOM! Studios booth 2229 at San Diego Comic Con. Be sure to follow us here, on our Twitter and Instagram accounts, as well as on Facebook as we will be attending the show with live coverage all week and weekend long!

Bandai America SDCC Exclusives Revealed – First Legacy Power Rangers Zeo Item

Posted on June 28, 2017 at 4:08 pm by Chris under Power Rangers, San Diego Comic Con

San Diego Comic Con is less than a month away and thanks to the official San Diego Comic Con website, we have our first look at the upcoming exclusives from Bandai America.

First up – the very first Power Rangers Zeo Legacy item! It’s time for a Gold Rush as you will look stylish and sleek sporting your brand new 14K(ish) gold plated communicator. The Power Rangers Zeo Legacy Gold Ranger Communicator will be available at the show for $100, but will easily be worth thousands of dollars within moments of landing in someone’s hands because this is the only item worth purchasing at the entire convention this summer. And if you end up one spot in line ahead of me and you get a guaranteed ticket and I’m stuck with a raffle I am liable to put you on a voodoo doll when I return home, obviously in tears, because the greatest convention exclusive of all time didn’t land in my hands. Is it natural to salivate in a news story about a toy?

For the Power Rangers Movie fans, a Legacy Movie Megazord figure will be available to purchase for $40. As of this time, we are unsure what differences this has from the original figure assembled with the Legacy Power Rangers Movie figures from earlier this year.

Finally, a Tokyo Vinyl Black and Gold Megazord figure will be available for $60.

More information on these exclusives, as well as their availability (as always they will be limited), will be released soon. Stay tuned for more updates!
