Happy New Year to you and to everyone, but the big news of the year is the fact that this year the Americanized adaption of Super Sentai, Power Rangers, is celebrating it’s 20th birthday this year. The 2013 Lexington Comic and Toy Convention will be held at the Lexington Convention Center on March 16th & 17th. As we draw closer to both the New York Comic Con and the 20th anniversary of the Power Rangers franchise, there have been more and more merchandise reveals. Most recently, the mysterious Derringer has dropped by various toku fansites, including our very own TokuNation, to share this message about what Bandai distributor Bluefin has planned for NYCC.

Hello everyone, we are 10 days away from New York Comic-Con 2012. We will be unveiling the first Power Rangers S.H. Figuarts prototype at the show among the other new products from the other Tamashii lines. There will also be surveys at this con to provide Tamashii Nations with feedback for what to investigate for future Power Rangers merchandise.

Before we enter the weekend eagerly awaiting new episodes of Kamen Rider Wizard and Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters, let’s rewind a bit back to 1993 with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, or more specifically, the music of the show.

As we’ve reported on a few times already, Ron Wasserman – the original composer of the rock songs you heard while Jason, Zack, Billy, Trini, Kimberly, and Tommy were fighting putties – has decided to completely re-record those classic songs and is planning to release them as an album tentatively titled Power Rangers Redux.

Since our last update, the following songs have been added:

  • Lord Zedd
  • Unite
  • Cross My Line
  • Hope for the World
  • Go Green Ranger

In a recent interview with GeekCast Radio, veteran Power Ranger actor Jason David Frank has dropped hints that he may return for the franchise’s 20th anniversary.

During the interview JDF, who played Tommy Oliver on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers through to Turbo and then returned for Dino Thunder, said the following;

“Probably, because that’s probably what Saban’s talking with my agent about tomorrow. I don’t really have any clue what they’re talking about, but they did mention some 20 year anniversary thing.” “If Saban ever wanted me to do something, I would do it. I just want everyone to know that if you hear any rumors about Jason Frank not doing the 20 year anniversary for any other reason, I will tell everybody right now that I do things for fun. I would do it for all of my fans and I would do it for a dollar. If it doesn’t happen, it has nothing to do with me, it has nothing to do with money, it has to do with Saban. If the fans wanted to see me, it has nothing to do with money. It has to do with doing stuff for you guys.”
