Rocket Powered Reading #2
Let’s take a look this week at one of the central villains of In Space, Dark Specter. As you may or may not have noticed by now Dark Specter bears a strong (100% identical) resemblance to another past foe of the rangers. Maligore from, Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie. That’s because the Maligore costume was simply reused for Dark Specter, though Specter could speak and was quoted as being substantially more powerful. At least once within the show’s continuity this resemblance was remarked upon by Divatox, who herself almost wed Maligore in the Turbo movie.
Blatant costume reuse of this nature doesn’t happen quite that much these days but it’s fun to notice. Off and on over the years various re-releases of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie have even featured the Maligore/Dark Specter image in the background of the DVD cover as well. This is itself even more odd as the central villain of that film was Ivan Ooze.

But are they friend or foe?
What is the secret of Andros' past?
Who abducted his sister Karone?
His deserted home world KO-35 may hold the answers.
But Ecliptor stands in his way!
Trapped by Astronema the rangers have one hope,
Alpha piloting the Astro Megazord?!
So Let's Watch Power Rangers In Space 4-6!

Episode 5... Let's Rocket!
Man, these LWWs are so much easier to do when you don't have to read subtitles and can multitask easier (and when you've seen the whole series at least three times already).
So we have the start of the Karone storyline and a rare appearance by Relevant Carlos (he's a rare and easily startled creature that is usually drawn to small children and/or Johnny Yong Bosch). Obviously, we'll find out more about how and why she was kidnapped, but for now I'll just pretend it's because her captors saw Kickboxing Academy and knew what Christopher Khayman Lee does with his sisters.
Okay, so we all know that Bulk and Skull have their BIG MOMENT at the end of the series, but man are they obviously saddled with a lot of pointless dreck at this point. It is painfully obvious that the writers had no idea what they were supposed to do with these two by this point and the watermelon bit really serves absolutely no purpose in the otherwise serious storyline.

Shell Shocked is so incredibly stupid.

Episode 6... Let's Rocket!
So Astronema still can't act, but maybe if the director shoves the camera into her crotch nobody will notice.
This wasn't a terrible episode, but it's painfully apparent that PRiS's reputation is built off of the mid- and late-season episodes. These first few are honestly nothing to really write home about, apart from the occasional moment of awesomeness like Alpha piloting the Astro Megazord. Things should be picking up soon, though, and it's not going to be long before Elgar starts fading into the background (still have no idea why he's on the show).

Anyone else think Elgar's sword has always been kinda cool?

And here I was hoping Shell Shocked would be omitted from this.

Shell Shocked was awesome
1) A unique team-up from out of left field between 2 franchises , there will never be one like that again. It's like family guy/Simpsons.
2) It's an original episode , not culled from super sentai. What was awesome for PRIS was its originality , it might have some footage from super sentai but it had its own original storylines and footage.
