Shout! Factory today at Anime Expo and via press release has announced the next Kamen Rider series to receive a North American, English subtitled release on Blu-Ray and it is none other than the fan-favorite series of Kamen Rider Kuuga.

Kamen Rider was one of the first series to be officially translated for streaming on the Tokushoutsu service.  The series will now be made available for North American audiences on Blu-Ray with a release date of September 20th, 2022.

KAMEN RIDER KUUGA | Synopsis

 

KAMEN RIDER KUUGA premiered in Japan in 2000 and was the first installment in the franchise’s televised run in the Heisei Era.

 

When a group of archaeologists uncovers the tomb of a legendary warrior, they unearth Kuuga’s belt, accidentally releasing an ancient race of monsters called the Grongi, bent on destroying humanity. Enter Yusuke Godai, a modern-day guy-next-door, who learns he is telepathically linked to the mysterious stone belt. With its power, he transforms into the legendary warrior known as Kuuga, humanity’s only defense against the murderous Grongi monsters.

It has been two years since a potential Super Sentai series on DVD was teased.  However, as Saban Brands sold the entirety of the Power Rangers franchise to Hasbro – along with all their licensing contracts – the future of the Super Sentai series on DVD from Shout! Factory became clouded with doubt and uncertainty.  Over the last two years, we were able to confirm that Shout! Factory wanted to continue releasing Super Sentai on DVD, meaning the future was in the hands of Hasbro.

Fast forward to today and Shout! Factory, in partnership with eOne Entertainment (whom Hasbro has transferred all the entertainment side of their business to), is pleased to announce the return of Super Sentai to DVD in North America with the upcoming release of Chikyu Sentai Fiveman!

Cover to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers 100

The Power Rangers comics from BOOM! Studios are about to get a facelift.  On Thursday, Ryan Parrott (writer on “Power Rangers“) announced that he would be leaving the brand at the onset of Issue 100 of the Power Rangers comic.  This morning, Mat Groom – whom just took over writing duties of the “Mighty Morphin” comic from Ryan Parrott – announced that he, too, was leaving the Power Rangers comics with Issue 22 of Mighty Morphin.

The future of the Power Rangers comics going forward is currently uncertain but sources tell us all is well at BOOM! Studios with the Power Rangers comics and that the future creative team will be announced at a later date.

Complete Style Gigantic

A new spin-off brand of the Complete Selection Modification (CSM) toy line has been soft-announced.  Introducing Complete Style Gigantic (CSG).  There is no information beyond the graphic teaser at this time but the graphic itself states more details to come in Japan on June 16th (or June 15th in North and South America).

There is a lot of speculation on what could come out with this line but it will likely include iconic items and/or weapons of your favorite Kamen Riders but in a close to 1:1 scale versus the smaller sized DX items released in the main toy lines.

We’ll follow up with more information as it is available.

In a shocking twist that no one saw coming, an unannounced Power Rangers Lightning Collection figure has been discovered.  Malaysian retailer MyToy shared on their Facebook page their latest acquisition of brand new Power Rangers Lightning Collection Metallic Mighty Morphin White Ranger, the final addition to the Metallic collection.

This Tommy comes with a brand new head sculpt and the fully formed Zeo Crystal.  Unlike the other Mighty Morphin Power Rangers figures to receive the Metallic treatment, there does NOT appear to be a new helmet sculpt.

When will this figure be released?  When will this figure be announced?  Roll the dice because no one truly knows.

Austin St. John – aka Jason Lawrence Geiger – aka The Red Power Ranger (according to the Federal Government, so hey, that’s a thing now) has been federally indicted on wire fraud by the US Government.

In a memo released today, St. John was indicted (and possibly arrested, but at least summoned to appear in front of a federal magistrate judge) for conspiracy to commit wire fraud.  The United States government alleges that Austin St. John, along with others, conspired together to create fake information to apply for COVID-19 relief money – specifically the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP)  – and misuse the funds (ie: personal investments, leisure, etc.).

If convicted, Austin St. John could spend up to 20 years in federal prison.

The Kamen Rider franchise has existed for 50 years and featured celebrations online all throughout the year 2021.  As the series continues in the Reiwa era, a special exhibition has opened in Japan to celebrate the 50th anniversary and to take visitors through a passage of time from Kamen Rider 1 (Ichigo) to Kamen Rider Revice.

Yutaka Kobayashi (“Kaito”, Kamen Rider Baron from Kamen Rider Gaim) helped lead opening celebrations along with some very special guests.

The Kamen Rider Exhibition is currently in Aichi through April 10th, moves to Fukuoka on Apri 23rd through May 15th, and to Tokyo sometime after that (date TBD).
