Akibaranger Season 2 Scans

Posted on March 31, 2013 at 6:32 pm by Den-O under Super Sentai

This Saturday April 6th will see the return of Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger for our viewing pleasure! To prepare us for this some new magazine scans are making the rounds featuring the various characters of the new season including Malsheena in her new powered up form, new villian General Two, and of coursethe Akibarangers themselves and their new looks!

We also have looks at the toy merchandise that will be released under the Akibaranger banner. New S.H.Figuarts for each of the Akibarangers & Delu-Knight included. And just as suspected the Japanese releases of S.H.Figuarts Tyranno Ranger and S.H. Figuarts Dragon Ranger will indeed be tied to Akibaranger! Let speculation run wild but this more than likely means we’ll be seeing some more Akibaranger themed accessories with these characters like Red Hawk and others from Season 1!

Other Heroes in Super Hero Taisen Z Net Movies

Posted on March 30, 2013 at 11:08 am by Den-O under Kamen Rider, Metal Heroes, Super Sentai

Yesterday DecaEnd of HJU reported on the appearance of a Tsuburaya character in Toeis’ upcoming Super Hero Taisen Z Net Movies. Tsuburaya being the parent company of the Ultraman Franchise it’s safe to say we’ll see at least one Ultra appear.

When Orends Range reported this news it was pointed out by a user there (Shogeco) that if you look closely at the SHTZ Net Movies Site there’s a small copyright on the page for Marvel Comics! Could this mean the return of the 70’s Japanese toku hero Spider-Man? Time will tell!

Today an additional scan from the same magazine has revealed another new one off special combo, this time featuring the mecha of Space Sheriff’s Gavan, Sharivan, and Shaider!

Revealed today this combination utilizes Sharivans’ robot Grandbirth, holding Shaiders’ Vavilos robot in gun mode, while Gavans’ Dol Dragon rides on top of it breathing fire! This special final combo of the 3 most iconic Metal Heroes mecha will execute the Big Grand Fire attack presumably in the finale of the film in space while the the Kyoryugers and Wizard exectue the Brave Strike End back on Earth.

Interview with Robert Baldwin AKA KyoryuCyan!

Posted on March 29, 2013 at 11:18 am by Den-O under Super Sentai

The team over at AlphaHeroShock have just posted up an interview with actor Robert Baldwin. Among many bit parts as a foreigner for TV dramas and variety shows Mr. Baldwin first dipped into Tokusatsu as Gordo in the 2005 Takara series Sazer X and recently made a 2 episode cameo on Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger as Ramirez/KyoryuCyan!

There’s some great stuff in this interview such as:

Well, starting almost half a century back (oh, that’s a long time!), I was actually born in Japan.

I was told that Ramirez was supposed to be a « cheery » character, and his lines were written in such a way that would indicate that he spoke Japanese with a foreign accent.

The fact that I used to watch Goranger when it originally aired in the 70s makes the original phone call, being offered a part as a Sentai hero, a very special memory.

Click HERE to check out the entire article! A tokusatsu fan himself Mr. Baldwin was honored to play the part of a hero like the ones he grew up watching. Only time will tell if he gets to come back to the series with more Zyudenryu at his side. Brave In!

Minipla Kyoryuzin In Hand

Posted on March 24, 2013 at 10:35 pm by Den-O under Super Sentai

Thanks to a user on Hatena Diary we have an EXTENSIVE look at the new minpla Kyoryuzin from Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger! We’ve been provided with boxed, pre-build, full build, and mid transformation shots alike. Unfortunately it looks like some liberties had to be taken with Kyoryuzins’ design to achieve this figure, such as the removal of the Zyudenchi (beast batteires) from the design. Instead Gabutyra has permanently fixed black cylinders under his chin and tail which act as arm connectors.

We’ve hosted a selection of the images from this set here. Click the link to go and check out the full, and massive, image gallery of this latest minipla release!

Atlantic Rim – Your Low Budget Daikaiju Alternative

Posted on March 24, 2013 at 6:11 pm by Den-O under General Tokusatsu News

You may have heard of a little film called Pacific Rim by Guillermo del Toro which sees the return of the Daikaiju genre to the west! Exciting news indeed for kaiju and mecha fans far and wide. However, have you heard of the tentatively titled Atlantic Rim/From the Sea?

Well mockbuster production company The Asylum (infamous for such borderline knockoff films as Snakes on a train, The Day The Earth Stopped, Transmorphers, Titanic II, Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus, and much more) is busy producing this latest entry. Shooting has begun for the film in the Pensacola, Florida area and walks the line of the plot for Pacific Rim. As told by the films Second Unit Director:

The storyline is that these monsters come from the sea. The sea floor opens up and these things come out. They terrorize the East Coast from Miami to Washington D.C., and the good guys send them back packing.

The Asylum is notorious for their almost exclusively straight to DVD films, their ongoing legal battles with major studios, and their tendency to walk the line of legality when making these mockbusters.
