Amit Bhaumik’s Original Power Rangers Samurai Proposal

Posted on September 1, 2013 at 1:28 am by Chris under Power Rangers

In 2010, Saban Brands purchased back the rights of the Power Rangers franchise from Disney, signaling a rebirth of the franchise right as it began to approach it’s 20th anniversary. The returning executive producer of many seasons of the franchise, Jonathan Tzachor, reached out to former Power Rangers scribe Amit Bhaumik (writer of the fan-favorite “Forever Red” anniversary episode of Power Rangers Wild Force) to help adapt the Japanese series Samurai Sentai Shinkenger to Power Rangers Samurai.

Working for free and as a favor, Amit wrote character biographies and a base storyline for the series and how it could be adapted. Citing “creative differences” and a “different plan or lack thereof”, we got the Power Rangers Samurai series that we know today – one that kids loved and older fans seemed to dislike.

We see a return to Power Rangers lore with the action happening in Stone Canyon, the rival city and school to Angel Grove, where the original Power Rangers hailed from.

There are some similarities though – Bulk is listed as a character, though instead of being totally inept and dim, he not only knows of Power Rangers but works FOR the Power Rangers – and “Spike” appeared as “Junior”, the son of Bulk, not Skull. And on top of that, “Junior” would create the Gold Samurai Ranger powers and be the traditional “shows up to save the day” 6th Ranger until his identity is revealed.

It’s an interesting read and we invite you to take a look at Amit’s blog.

Click here to read Amit Bhaumik’s original proposal for “Power Rangers Samurai”!

Many cite that the downfall of Power Rangers could eventually happen because of Jonathan Tzachor – it has been whispered among various circles that the marketing department had to step in for Power Rangers Super Megaforce to have an anniversary episode, as Tzachor had no plans for one, hence the “last minute” invites and the fact that it shoves 10 previous Rangers in to one 22 minute episode.

What do you think of this proposal? As an older fan would you have enjoyed this more, or is this just “fanfiction” in your eyes, and wouldn’t make for a good show? Chime in and give us your thoughts!!

Power Rangers Samurai Receiving Japanese Dub

Posted on August 8, 2013 at 10:44 pm by Paladin under Power Rangers

Continuing the reverse-adaptation of Saban properties, Toei’s main page has confirmed that starting August 18th Japan will be experiencing a dubbed adaptation of Power Rangers Samurai.

Strangely, this would appear to break the existing season rotation and suggests that Power Rangers Operation Overdrive will not undergo the dubbing process at this time.

UPDATE! The OrendsRange Blog has a preliminary dubbing cast for this new project:

Koji Yusa as Jaden
Sachiko Kojima as Mia
Wataru Hatano as Mike
Tsuguo Mogami as Kevin
Ayaka Shinoyamada as Emily
Yoji Ueda as Mentor Ji

Jason David Frank Confirms Super Megaforce Cameo List

Posted on May 29, 2013 at 1:51 am by Chris under Power Rangers

Jason David Frank (Tommy, a Power Rangers legend as MMPR Green, MMPR White, Zeo Red, Turbo Red, Dino Thunder Black), confirmed via his official Facebook page that the cameos we’ve seen in the images posted on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are it … no other past Rangers appeared.

The finalized list is as follows:

Jason David Frank – (“Tommy” Mighty Morphin Green and White, Zeo Red, Turbo Red, Dino Thunder Black)
Selwyn Ward – (“TJ” Turbo Red, In Space Blue)
Patricia Ja Lee – (“Cassie” Turbo Pink, In Space Pink)
Danny Slavin – (“Leo” Lost Galaxy Red)
Reggie Rolle – (“Damon” Lost Galaxy Green)
Melody Perkins – (“Karone” In Space Astronema, Lost Galaxy Pink)
Sean Johnson – (“Carter” Lightspeed Red)
Alison MacInnis – (“Dana” Lightspeed Pink)
Jason Faunt – (“Wes” Time Force Red)
Hector David Jr – (“Mike” Samurai Green)
Brittany Pirtle – (“Emily” Samurai Yellow)

The exact quote from Jason David Frank is as follows:

Thats the only 10 that were pick guys. No other rangers came back. Thats the legendary cast for that ep.

So there you have it. We’d like to point out that yes, that is a list of ELEVEN, but the original list provided by RangerCrew.com’s Fury Diamond did not include Patricia Ja Lee. Whether she showed up on her own dime, or Jason David Frank really did do this for one dollar allowing her to be able to come, has yet to be revealed.

TokuNation.com Presents Your Top 20 Power Rangers Of All Time

Posted on May 19, 2013 at 1:20 pm by Chris under Power Rangers, TokuNation Spotlights

This year, Power Rangers celebrates its 20th Anniversary, a milestone that not many properties or franchises accomplish. We here at TokuNation have decided to celebrate this milestone by spending 20 weeks celebrating your Top 20 Power Rangers!

Starting on Monday, June 3rd, we will spend a whole week posting news, information, galleries, etc., of each Power Ranger that you’ve chosen to be the Top 20 Power Rangers of All Time, starting with #20 and working our way up to #1. This is on top of our monthly series-appreciation, highlighted by our changing banner in the top right of your screen, as well as numerous galleries from that series.

All we ask is that each of you post your top 10 Power Rangers (#1 being your highest, #10 being your lowest). We have created a mathematical system that rivals most scientific equations (not really) that will determine the Top 20 (because it’s unlikely that you will all pick the same 10 Power Rangers).

The staff here at TokuNation have already taken part, and for your viewing pleasure, here is a Top 10 list that the staff came up with (using the same mathematical equation). They are listed in no certain order, but they are the Top 10 the staff came up with:

Eric (Power Rangers Time Force)
Zack (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers)
Tommy (Mighty Morpin Power Rangers, Zeo, Turbo, Dino Thunder)
Ziggy (Power Rangers RPM)
Billy (Mighty Morpin Power Rangers)
Katherine (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Zeo, Turbo)
Adam (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Zeo, Turbo)
Jason (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Zeo)
Wes (Power Rangers Time Force)
Kimberly (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers)

For what it’s worth, the staff in total had 30 nominations, and those are still being counted with YOUR nominations, so just because you don’t see one of your favorites on this list doesn’t mean they aren’t #11, or #12, etc. Remember, in the end we will have The Top 20 Power Rangers that you choose!

Simply post in this news thread your Top 10 (again, #1 being your first choice, #10 being your last) and wait and see on Monday, June 3rd who the Top 20 Power Rangers of All Time end up being, starting with #20.

Any questions can be posted as well! Have fun with this! Go Go Power Rangers!
