S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider Shin – May Tamashii Web Exclusive!

Posted on December 20, 2013 at 12:39 am by Den-O under Kamen Rider

In what’s surely going to surprise many fans and please many others, one of the most short lived riders of the (technically) Showa era will finally receive the S.H. Figuarts treatment! Set for release in May as a Tamashii Web Exclusive is none other than Kamen Rider Shin!

Kamen Rider Shin isn’t entirely recognizable to all fans, mostly because of his very few appearances. Originally intended to be a new Kamen Rider aimed at the now adult fans of the original series, Shin first appeared in Shin Kamen Rider Prologue. As the name implies a series was meant to follow up the film. However that  never materialized because of the films bizarre horror/monster angle and excessive violence which drastically departed from what rider fans had experienced before. Shin would later go on to reappear in All Riders Vs. Dai Shocker, Let’s Go Kamen Riders, and the first Super Hero Taisen.

S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider Shin will be released in May as a Tamashi Web Exclusive for 4320 yen.

An Interview with S.I.C Designers Gojima and Yasufuji

Posted on December 19, 2013 at 6:49 pm by Kiryu under Kamen Rider

As part of the Super imaginative Chogokin’s 15th Anniversary, Tamashi held an interview with two members of the design team: Gojima and Yasufuji.

In the interview, the two discuss topics ranging from the success of the Kamen Rider OOO releases to the up coming Shin Ichigo figure. Thanks to HenshinJustice, a portion of this interview was translated:
Yasufuji: Now, we are working with Nakashima Kenichi along with the digital expert Ito in a 4 person system/structure. At the current moment, we’re mostly focusing on the coloring, but soon I think we’ll build up inertia. For now, the work process is like, I make a right arm and pass it along… They say, “And now the left arm please.”

Gojima: “In 3 days!” And I’m like only 3 days…? It’s all purely hand crafted, so anyone with a free hand does what they can.

Yasufuji: And when some of those things come up, I think “Nope… that’s not right.” and start fixing it. (giggle) Neither side seems strange by themselves, but when we put them together, sometimes they seem a bit off. When working with solids, sometimes things just have an interesting shape.

Gojima: Basically, it’s just that over and over again. We kept fixing things so much, I moved into Yasufuji’s area! (more giggles)

– The current “Kamen Rider 000″ Series is really popular, isn’t it!

Yasufuji: With the last S.I.C. series, it was mainstream to have retrofitting parts to make different characters, but many of the the hardcore fans said, “We’ll buy the different characters anyway, so you don’t have to do it that way!” (again with the giggles) Recently, that gimmick has been seen as a waste. In that vein, we traded in “retrofitting” for “play value”, The OOO arms and legs can be exchanged to depict scenes from the show. But, we’re worried about how accurate we have to be with these parts. In the show, these effects only last for an instant, so we have questions like, “What is the original shape of the grasshopper hero’s leg?” (Giggle) So, until the first round of Tatobakobo go out on sale, we were breaking out in a cold sweat. But overall they were received well, so we were relieved.

Gojima: In an attempt to compliment us, they were called “Gross” on the net.

TokuNation Users’ Top 20 Power Rangers – #11 is Dan Ewing (RPM Black Ranger)

Posted on December 19, 2013 at 5:29 pm by Chris under Power Rangers, TokuNation, TokuNation Spotlights

After a nice long fall hiatus, we’re going to close out 2013 by bringing you the rest of the TokuNation.com Users Top 20 Power Rangers of All Time list for the 20th anniversary of Power Rangers! To kick it off, we’re announcing the next on the list that YOU voted for in early 2013! Your 11th Best Power Ranger of All Time is … Dan Ewing, who played Dillon the Power Rangers RPM Black Ranger!

At the end of the Disney run of the Power Rangers franchise, the series was given to a new executive producer, Eddie Guzelian, who stated he was told that no matter what he did, this was going to be the last installment of Power Rangers. With that in mind, Eddie took the series away from the rather campy humor of talking cars from the Japanese series GoOnger, and instead put our heroes in a post-apocalyptic world where evil machines had taken over. Our heroes, the Power Rangers RPM, were the protectors of the last human civilization on Earth – the domed city of Corinth. A mysterious man in a leather jacket and a hot rod muscle car, Dillon, was selected to be the Series Black Operator because, in part, of the machine implants that were riddled throughout his body. As the series progressed, we learned that the machine implants were actually Venjix hardware, aka the bad guys turned him in to a hybrid human/machine, and that he was also looking for his sister, who he believes he was separated from inside a Venjix facility.

Dillon would eventually find his sister (who we are not naming for spoiler reasons if you haven’t seen the show yet, and if you haven’t, GO SEE IT NOW) and, with the help of Dr. K, find a way to cure the struggle of control in his body between man and machine. The story of Dillon has its happy ending, and you’ll need to watch Power Rangers RPM to find out what all that entails!

Dan Ewing was born and raised near Sydney, Australia. He is an accomplished athlete as well as a successful actor. As well as being on Power Rangers RPM, he also was a contestant in the Australian Dancing with the Stars, as well as a starring role in the show Home and Away, though he has recently announced that he is leaving the show in 2014. You can follow him on Twitter at @_DanEwing.

The countdown continues tomorrow! Who will be Number 10? If you haven’t had a chance to see who 12 thru 20 were, then we can help you out – click here to check out the other Top 20 Rangers. What do you think of this placing – do you agree with your fellow fans? Discuss!

Jason David Frank to Attend Denver Comic Con

Posted on December 19, 2013 at 11:52 am by Chris under Conventions, Other Conventions, Power Morphicon, Power Rangers

Thanks to a posting on his Official Facebook Page, the legendary hero of your childhood, Jason David Frank, will be attending a number of shows for 2014! Among one of his stops is one of the fastest growing and popular shows – Denver Comic Con! Jason David Frank will join Walter Jones (the Mighty Morphin Black Ranger) and David Yost (the Mighty Morphin Blue Ranger) as the first tokusatsu related guests at the third annual Denver Comic Con June 13th-15th 2014.

For those who don’t remember off the top of your head who Jason David Frank is – he played the Mighty Morphin Green Ranger, Mighty Morphin White Ranger, Zeo Red Ranger, Turbo Red Ranger, Dino Thunder Black Ranger, and is set to reprise his Mighty Morphin Power Rangers roles in the 2014 series Power Rangers Super Megaforce in a special episode.

But now for some sad news – based on the scheduled date for Wizard World Chicago, it would appear that Jason David Frank will NOT be attending 2014’s Power Morphicon convention (the official Power Rangers convention). Power Morphicon takes place August 22nd-24th 2014, and Wizard World Chicago takes place August 21st-24th 2014. Jason is currently scheduled as a guest at Wizard World Chicago for their 2014 show and the dates conflict.

If you live in the middle United States and would like to experience a great show, be sure to register for Denver Comic Con as tickets are going fast. TokuNation will be in attendance at the show to bring you pictures and any news that comes up at the show.

There has been no official announcement from Denver Comic Con regarding Jason David Frank’s attendance, nor is there any update from Power Morphicon on whether or not the iconic Power Ranger is or is not attending the official convention. As soon as there is we will bring the news to you.

Speculation: Deathryuger to Join Kyoryugers?

Posted on December 19, 2013 at 2:06 am by Den-O under Super Sentai

Thanks to a rather sly fan catching the filming of an upcoming Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger episode it looks like we may be seeing more of Deathryuger in the coming weeks.

Deathryuger is of course the false Kyoryuger/villain of the summer film, Gaburincho of Music. Using the stolen battery for Tobaspino the Knight of Brutality D became Deathryuger. However recent events from the series have laid that character to rest and left the #00 battery in the Kyoryugers capable hands. Your guess is as good as ours on who this new Deathryuger may be.

Miko? Tessai’s descendant? Dantetsu Kiryu? Could this merely be a dream sequence? All we know for sure is that the Kyoryugers will be facing the 4 resurrected Debo Monsters that represent the 4 seasons of the year and that Deathryuger is featured in the ranger line-up between Blue & Green.

Time to speculate away!
