More Goodsmile SSSS Gridman Updates, Including a Kaiju

Posted on December 23, 2018 at 6:54 am by Den-O under General Tokusatsu News, Ultraman

Yesterday we got our first real look at color prototypes for the upcoming Figma Gridman & Grid Knight from SSSS Gridman. Both look phenomenal in what little we could glean from the Figure Oh scan. Today however GSC has released a single hi-res look at this fair together for the first time! This offers the absolute best look yet at either of these Figma’s and I have to say, they look incredible together. The post this image was attached to also indicates that Figma Gridman pre-orders will begin on January 19th.

In another surprise teaser, Goodsmile has announced that they are indeed working on at lest one Kaiju from the series. No, we don’t just mend the adorable clay model Kaiju that Nendoroid Akane Shinjo comes with, this is apparently going to be some sort of full size figure of Ghoulghilas! The cyborg like dragon monster which Gridman faced in the first episode of the series. While GSC has not indicated if this will be some sort of full scale DX, Figma, or maybe even just a vinyl figure, it’s pretty promising to see a Kaiju from the series being worked on. It was anounced in the same GSC blog update as the new Figma image.

As more information about Gridman, Grid Knight, and Ghoulghilas becomes available we’ll be sure to keep you informed.

Good Smile Releases Official Images of Nendoroid Akane Shinjo (SSSS Gridman)

Posted on December 21, 2018 at 10:31 am by Den-O under General Tokusatsu News, Ultraman

Via the GSC blog, we have a full set of official images for Good Smile’s upcoming Nendoroid Akane Shinjo!

While GSC is also working on a Figma Akane (and Rikka!), the Nendo will satisfy many collector’s needs, especially given the wonderful accessories she includes:

  • – 3 alternate faces
  • – headphones
  • – her cracked glasses(which evoke the Shattered Glass Optimus Prime she’s based on)
  • – a cellphone with a cracked screen, like the one she threw at Anti
  • – a juice box
  • – alternate bare legs
  • – several alternate hands
  • – the box cutter used for a, certain stabbing
  • – her computer monitor with Alexis Kerib’s face on it
  • – as well as two Kaiju clay models! Ghoulghilas & Devadadan!

That is QUITE the hefty accessory count, though undoubtedly something will be included as a GSC online shop exclusive. Possibly even one of the above revealed items. At this time, GSC has not confirmed Akane’s price but orders will open for her on December 26th, so we’ll know how much she’ll run you, at that time.

First Color Image of Figma SSSS Gridman & Grid Knight

Posted on December 21, 2018 at 9:56 am by Den-O under General Tokusatsu News, Ultraman

“Access Flash!”

Previously, Good Smile revealed prototypes for both an upcoming Figman Gridman, and most recently after some spoiler-y developments in the last couple episodes, teased a Figma Grid Knight. Now that the most recent issue of Figure Oh has been released, we finally have our first full color image of both prototypes!

This image shows Gridman for the first time in vibrant color, wielding the mighty Gridman Calibur. Grid Knight is looking equally gorgeous in purple & orange, though for now at least we haven’t glimpsed the Grid Knight Calibur he almost assuredly comes with. This image does however confirm Figman Gridman’s size at 160mm (roughly 6.3″) which is larger than the average Figma, and larger than the Gridman figure GSC is releasing in the DX Assist Weapon Set.

For now we still don’t have specific pricing or release information, but when we do, we’ll be sure to update this story.

Toku Toy Box: S.H. Figuarts Shinkocchou Seihou Kamen Rider Ibuki Gallery

Posted on December 20, 2018 at 2:56 pm by Den-O under Contests and Giveaways, Kamen Rider, TokuNation, TokuNation Site Updates, TokuNation Spotlights

Iori Izumi was born into the head Oni family of the Kanto region. A prodigy driven by loyalty to his family, and to his duty to defeat the Makamou, Izumi fully abandoned his human identity and fully became the Oni of the Izumi family, Kamen Rider Ibuki! After nay years of waiting, this master Oni of Breath arrives blow away any Makamou that stand in his path. For the first time ever, Ibuki makes his debut in the S.H. Figuarts line as a Shinkocchou Seihou!

Kamen Rider Hibiki finally joined the S.H. Figuarts line for the first time over 4 years ago, as only the 2nd Shinkocchou Seihou release, which set the bar fairly high at the time. After a long wait Hibiki’s secondary rider has arrived, so what can you expect? Well Ibuki shares the same physical body as Hibiki, just with new cosmetic changes to the armor. Decked out with brass styled pipes mimicking the Ongekikan Reppuu instrument he uses to destroy Makamou. Much like Hibiki this figure is packed down with accessories including his transformation whistle Onibue, and 3 disc animals. It’s really the full package.

Remember, this gallery qualifies you for entry in our annual Toku Toy Box giveaway as well! As the upcoming holidays allow us, we’ll have at least a couple more new galleries for Toku Toy Box as well. Look out for Garo, Amazons, and Kamen Rider Ex-Aid content headed your way!

Heisei Generations Forever Medley D.A. Re-Build Mix Posted Online

Posted on December 20, 2018 at 1:17 pm by Den-O under Kamen Rider

Today, Toei began streaming a new video promoting the upcoming Kamen Rider Heisei Generations Forever film (which comes out in two days!). But rather than just a new teaser or trailer for the film, this video previews the films theme song, which is itself a compilation and re-mix of the Opening Themes for all 20 Heisei Riders!

Titled “Heisei Generations Forever Medley D.A. Re-Build Mix” this song arranges clips from each of the 20 Heisei Rider OP’s into one giant song, set to a variety of archival footage as well as new scenes from the soon to be released film itself.  This new theme was arranged by Daisuke Asakura.

Kamen Rider Heisei Generations Forever hits Japanese theaters on December 22nd! Best to dodge spoilers on social media for a bit, but if you’d like to join in on our ongoing discussion of the film, feel free to pop into our discussion thread linked below. Toku Toy Box: S.H. Figuarts Shinkocchou Seihou Kamen Rider Wizard Flame Style Gallery

Posted on December 16, 2018 at 1:06 pm by Den-O under Contests and Giveaways, Kamen Rider, TokuNation, TokuNation Site Updates, TokuNation Spotlights

“Flame, Please.”

Haruto Soma was the only survivor of a dark Solar Eclipse ritual which saw the creation of a legion of monsters known as Phantoms. Assuming the likeness and identities of those humans they emerged from, Phantom’s invade the world of humans and use magic to wreak havoc. Only one man can stop them, the one who faced despair head on in the light of the eclipse and emerged to gain the power of magic from his hope. Haruto Soma became Kamen Rider Wizard!

FINALLY, after languishing for 6 years with one of the worst S.H. Figuarts ever made, the Shinkocchou Seihou renewal line has finally tackled the rider of hope! Kamen Rider Wizard Flame Style is possibly one of the most stunning and astounding figuarts I’ve ever handled. A magnificent recreation of a dynamic suit design, this stylish figure is everything that Wizard fans have ever wanted. Interchangeable Wizard Rings, a multi-mode WizardSwordGun, and fully poseable Wizard Robes(!), make this one of the nicest Seihou releases to date. But don’t just take my word for it, see 100+ images in our full gallery thread!

The full gallery is linked below, just click “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums” below to be taken to the complete review. Remember, this gallery qualifies you for entry in our annual Toku Toy Box giveaway as well! We’ll have another Toy Box gallery coming up this week to, as we revisit the Oni Riders of Kamen Rider Hibiki in over 4 years!

1st Full Body Image of Kamen Rider Woz

Posted on December 14, 2018 at 10:30 am by Den-O under Kamen Rider

As seen over on Hero Shock, we have our first full length look at Kamen Rider Woz! While we’ve known for a couple of months that Woz would be getting his own set of Rider powers, we still don’t know what episode of Kamen Rider Zi-O that Woz will display his abilities in for the first time.

Using the Beyondriver, Kamen Rider Woz will use a special type of Ride Watch called MiRide Watches to access the powers of riders from the future. The future Kamen Riders, Shinobi, Quiz & Kikai that Woz draws his powers from have also yet to appear in the show, if they will at all. We should have our next batch of episode summaries coming up in the near future, so confirmation on Woz’s first transformation should come in the near future.

What do you think of Kamen Rider Woz? Let us known in the ongoing Zi-O News & Rumors Thread by clicking “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums” below.

Toku Toy Box: S.H. Figuarts Shinkocchou Seihou Kamen Rider W Luna/Trigger Gallery

Posted on December 11, 2018 at 7:59 pm by Den-O under Contests and Giveaways, Kamen Rider, TokuNation, TokuNation Site Updates, TokuNation Spotlights

“Luna/Trigger!”

Toku Toy Box continues on and it’s time we return to a windy city called Fuuto, to revisit everyone’s favorite half-boild detective! When Shotaro Hidari & Philip combine their minds they become one as Kamen Rider W! But when the situation calls for something else, new Gaia Memories give W the edge he (they?) needs to take on the Museum’s Dopants. Using the Luna & Trigger Memories, Kamen Rider W Luna/Trigger is formed!

The Shinkocchou Seihou line up of premium S.H. Figuarts renewals has been giving fans the long awaited do-overs they’ve requested for over 4 years now. Kamen Rider W Cyclone/Joker was perhaps one of the best figures to come out of this renewed line, though many many good figure’s have since as well. But that mold has proven to be near perfect in any of the various ways it’s been released. Luna/Trigger is just yet another amazing use of the Seihou W mold. If you know anything about this body type at all, you know you’re going to love this figure as well.

We’ve attached the full 60+ image gallery of S.H. Figuarts Shinkocchou Seihou Kamen Rider W Luna/Trigger to this post. You can also check out our full review thread of the figure by clicking “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums” at the bottom of this post. Next time Toku Toy Box gets *HOT* with a magical gallery from Kamen Rider Wizard!

Multi-Platform Reboot of the Ultraman Brand Coming to US & International Markets

Posted on December 11, 2018 at 2:36 pm by Den-O under General Tokusatsu News, Ultraman

In an exclusive being reported by THR, Tsuburaya has just tapped Jeff Gomez and his Starlight Runner Entertainment along with LA based The Licensing Group to rebrand and reboot the Ultraman franchise across multiple platforms for markets outside Japan. This is massive news for a number of reasons, but THR has a great exclusive breakdown of what this all means as well.

U.S. transmedia producer Starlight Runner Entertainment has been tapped by Tokyo-based Tsuburaya Productions to build out the Ultraman mythology for the digital age outside of Japan, to include a possible live action streaming TV series. The original live action Ultra Q and Ultramanseries that launched in 1966 featured a high-tech police force and their silver superhero Ultraman battling to save the Earth from invading aliens and giant monsters.

Dozens of sequel TV series, movies, video games and other spinoff content followed, including recent movies like Ultraman X the Movie in 2016, Ultraman Orb the Movie last year and Ultraman Geed the Movie in 2018, the 29th installment of the franchise.

As Tsuburaya looks to restore Ultraman’s profile outside Japan, Starlight Runner will team with The Licensing Group to reboot the superhero property across multiple platforms, with story-driven licensing and merchandising programs for the U.S. and international markets.

The Ultraman licensing program will be supported by new content distributed on cable, streaming and SVOD platforms. “Ultraman is one of my greatest childhood heroes. We’re honored to be embarking on this mission to bring this family of characters back to the world stage,” Starlight Runner CEO Jeff Gomez said in a statement.

So, how exciting is this? Seeing one of the oldest and most beloved Tokusatsu franchises in the world, stepping into the modern day in an entirely new fashion. SHare your thoughts on the subject by visiting our discussion thread on the topic, just click “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums” at the bottom of this post.
