Daimajin Actor Chikara Hashimoto Has Passed Away at 83

Posted on October 20, 2017 at 11:07 am by Den-O under General Tokusatsu News

Via Yahoo News Japan we have just learned of the passing of a titanic figure in the Japanese tokusatsu industry. Chikara Hashimoto, perhaps best known for his role as the mighty demon god Daimajin in the Daiei Film trilogy, has passed away at 83. Mr. Hashimoto sadly lost a battle with lung cancer on October 10th, though news of his passing has only just begun to reach the west.

Chikara Hashimoto is best known as the suit actor of Daimajin. He also played the part of the Yokai Daimon in the 2nd film of Daiei’s Yokai trilogy, Spook Warfare. However he is also well known for his role in the Bruce Lee film Fist of Fury as dojo grandmaster Hirshoi Suzuki.

We extend our condolences on behalf of the entire community to Mr. Hashimoto’s family. Truly his performances are unforgettable. If you’ve never watched the Daimajin trilogy, I would personally recommend it at some point. They are a true testament to what can be achieved with traditional special effects.

Toys R Us Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

Posted on September 19, 2017 at 1:02 pm by Chris under General Tokusatsu News

Late last night, Toys’R’Us – the largest toy retailer in North America – filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Toys’R’Us has struggled since 2005 when it was part of a $6.6 billion transaction. 12 years later Toys’R’Us is still $5 billion dollars in debt and is faced with over $400 million dollars due in fiscal 2018 which it was not going to be able to pay. Hence the bankruptcy filing.

So what does this mean for all your favorite collectibles? Well, right now – nothing. Chapter 11 bankruptcy is nothing more than a legal stop sign for any creditors trying to collect on the debts that Toys’R’Us owes. It gives Toys’R’Us the ability to reorganize it’s financial debts – which it has already begun with JP Morgan agreeing to finance $3 billion of the remaining $5 billion debt.

As of right now – Toys’R’Us is NOT going out of business. NO store closures have been announced nor are expected during this year’s holiday season. New toys will CONTINUE to come out. Anything that has been announced as a Toys’R’Us exclusive will come out. Toys’R’Us has stated that business operations will continue as normal.

Analysts watching the situation agree that JP Morgan agreeing to finance $3 billion of debt has the potential to allow Toys’R’Us to emerge from the Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in strong standing. In 2009, Toys’R’Us acquired the remaining assets (namely the name, trademarks, and intellectual property) of KB Toys, the other national toy retailer. KB Toys filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2004, and later filed again in 2008, shutting down all operations within 3 months of the filing. Ironically, the second bankruptcy filing that killed the business was initiated by a former Toys’R’Us executive who was then acting as CEO to KB Toys and then sold the remaining assets to Toys’R’Us.

Ranger Command Power Hour Episode 100 Released

Posted on September 10, 2017 at 12:26 am by Chris under General Tokusatsu News

We don’t often advertise podcasts or YouTube updates of people not associated with our site, but we’re making a special exception in this case. Our dear friends for many years, the folks at the Ranger Command Power Hour podcast, have released their 100th episode. In celebration of 100 episodes, they’ve done a crossover episode featuring appearances from nearly every single guest host they’ve had over the last 3 years.

We do play a special part in this episode – @TokuChris (TokuNation webmaster) wrote the script and has an appearance, along with @DenO_TokuNation (TokuNation Content Administrator) and @SoulInkChu (TokuNation Public Relations) representing our former podcast Talkin Toku.

Click here and listen to the episode coming in at an impressive 35 minutes. Congratulations to Ranger Command Power Hour for 100 episodes and for setting the standard of how professional, entertaining podcasts should be.

Legend Hero YouTube Teases Legend Hero EX Directors Cut

Posted on September 4, 2017 at 10:42 pm by Chris under General Tokusatsu News

The popular South Korean tokusatsu series, Legend Hero (or Legend Hero Three Kingdoms) recently concluded it’s English closed caption run on YouTube with the English translation of the 50th episode now available online. The series started off as incredibly popular with tokusatsu fans across the world but seemed to fade away during its tenure. With the full series now online, officially, with an English subtitle translation available, the show is beginning to gain some more momentum.

During the run of the series there was a segment of episodes that was seen as one of the more pivotal stories in the entire series. That story line ran through the 24th and 27th episodes. Two episodes ended up having to cut over 15 minutes when it aired on television – the 26th and 27th episodes. It was later released in a special screening as “Legend Hero EX” or “Legend Hero Three Kingdoms EX“.

Today, the official YouTube channel for Legend Hero released a trailer for Legend Hero EX with a “stay tuned next week” message. Check out the video below.

The clips shown lead one to believe that we are finally getting a release of the cut footage from Episodes 26 and 27. Linked to this news post is our special Legend Hero Full Series Info discussion thread. Be sure to check it out if you have interest in the series.
