Toys R Us Considers Bankruptcy Protection While Restructuring Debt

Posted on September 6, 2017 at 8:01 pm by Chris under Power Rangers

A report today from various news sources (we’ve chosen to look at BusinessInsider.com) tells us that Toys’R’Us is spending a lot more money than it has been earning over the last fiscal year – to the point of $400 million dollars more – and has hired a law firm to help consolidate its debt while considering the option of filing for bankruptcy protection.

This is not the first time the retail toy store has dealt with financial woes – in 2003 the company closed 180 stores across the country.

Toys’R’Us blames a large portion of their current losses not to a failing toy industry but to losses from its Babies’R’Us sister store, which saw over a 3.0% decline in year over year sales and a massive drop in diaper purchases as consumers can find cheaper deals for their infant and toddler necessities online. Either way, if Toys’R’Us shuts down more stores or ends up going out of business altogether, fans of Power Rangers wonder what the future of the Legacy toy line may be.

With the release of the Power Rangers Movie failing to meet expectations, the movie toy line warming shelves in stores, and the Power Rangers Ninja Steel toy line already hitting clearance prices across the country, having the biggest partner of the franchise possibly go under is not something to keep one optimistic about a future of increasingly expensive Power Rangers collector items.

We should know more about this on September 26th when the next earnings report is due to be made public. With the hiring of a private law firm to work on consolidating debt, we assume the report will be dismal at best. Stay tuned for more news on the future of Toys’R’Us.

Legacy Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Green Ranger Helmet Revealed

Posted on August 14, 2017 at 7:30 pm by Chris under Power Rangers

The Bandai America Legacy line of helmets will continue now – the Legacy Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Green Ranger Helmet Revealed earlier today at online retailer Entertainment Earth. Like the Legacy Red Ranger and Legacy Movie Red Ranger helmets before it, this item will be a wearable helmet designed to look as close to the show as possible.

According to the listing, the Legacy Green Ranger helmet is set to release in February of 2018 for the usual retail of around $99.

We invite you to take a look at our article of how Power Rangers failed to deliver at San Diego Comic Con and this reveal, coming through an online retailer as opposed to Bandai America or Saban Brands, only furthers to reference our point at the continued mismanagement of the brand. This is an item that could have been, and should have been, revealed at San Diego Comic Con less than a month ago.

Hasbro Acquisition of Lionsgate Fails

Posted on August 2, 2017 at 1:59 pm by Chris under Power Rangers Movie

We’re reporting on this bit because of the fact that Lionsgate was the movie studio behind the Power Rangers Movie. Hasbro had been in negotiations with Lionsgate for a formal takeover, giving the toy company its first real movie studio under its belt. Hasbro has been attempting for years to go from “toy maker” to “entertainment producer”, such as the failed Hasbro channel via Discovery Channel known as “The Hub” some years prior.

Could this have been a roadblock from green-lighting a Power Rangers Movie sequel? We may never know but it certainly doesn’t hurt that a major competitor to Saban Brands and Bandai America, Hasbro, failed to acquire the studio that has the rights to the Power Rangers Movie.

Thanks to the Hollywood Reporter for the news and for our sister site TFW2005 for the heads up.

Power Morphicon 2018 – How To Get Your Exclusive Legacy Figure

Posted on August 1, 2017 at 7:30 pm by Chris under Power Morphicon, Power Rangers

Hey Power Rangers fans! The Official Power Morphicon opened its registration this morning! If you haven’t registered yet, please click here and begin the process. A lot of fans are expressing dismay that they didn’t have an option to include the Power Morphicon Exclusive 6.5″ Legacy Power Rangers figure. While it hasn’t been showing up during the registration process, there is a way to add it.

After you’ve registered for your membership, you will be sent an E-mail regarding your registration. Open that E-mail, go back in to your registration profile on the site, edit the “Extra Items” tab, and you can then add as many Legacy 6.5″ figures that your membership allows. You will have to pay for them in advance.

While there has been no official announcement on what the Power Morphicon Legacy 6.5″ exclusive figure is, a report out our friends from Power Rangers NOW states that it is indeed the evil Lord Drakkon! However, some conflicting reports are out there as well (at one point the original registration site showed “Psycho Silver Ranger”). However, we did learn Bandai America will be offering a second exclusive through their booth at the convention. So stay tuned for more details!

How Power Rangers Failed to Deliver at SDCC 2017

Posted on July 25, 2017 at 1:56 pm by Chris under Power Rangers, San Diego Comic Con

I had the extreme pleasure of attending San Diego Comic Con 2017. This was my fourth year attending and covering the event for our network and every year by the time you go home you’re left dizzy from everything you’ve just experienced. As the sole representative of TokuNation.com my primary focus is to cover all things tokusatsu related, or in the case of American entertainment, that means Power Rangers.

San Diego Comic Con is the largest pop culture convention in the entire world. The number of attendees ranges upwards of 100,000 guests and anyone who has attended the convention will tell you that is no “generous number” … it’s a reality. And this year whispers are it was the largest convention ever. Literally every major entertainment company, regardless of whether or not they have their own convention earlier or later, brings their A game because this is the one time a year that the entire world is watching in anticipation for what you have to show.

This year the Power Rangers brand failed to not only to capture any of the magic or attention they might have acquired from their major motion picture release earlier this year, they failed to show up at all. Please click “Read More” for our in-depth analysis of why this wasn’t just one of the worst years for Power Rangers at San Diego Comic Con but why it may be the worst ever.
