Takayuki Takeya to Design the Roymudo of Drive

Posted on September 7, 2014 at 2:05 am by Den-O under Kamen Rider

Put another one in the win column for Kamen Rider Drive! Veteran designer/artist/sculptor Takayuki Takeya has joined the crew of Drive as the series creature designer! Mr Takayuki will be designing the villainous Roymudo of the series and if his previous work is anything to go on, then these designs will be spectacular.

Takayuki has frequently worked with Keta Amemiya of Garo & Shougeki Gouraigan fame, and has been a prolific designer in Bandai’s popular S.I.C. line. But that’s not all! Though this is Takayuki’s first full TV series length work with designs, he has worked on Kamen Rider previously. His credits include the final two entries at the tail end of Showa continuity, the Kamen Rider ZO & Kamen Rider J films! Adding to his credits is his design work on an often overlooked but incredible tokusatsu series called Tekkoki Mikazuki!

Thanks to our friends at the Tokusatsu Network for this heads up. Kamen Rider Drive premieres October 5th so remeber, Start Your Engine!

Talkin Toku Podcast Episode 015 – Talkin Toku is Back!

Posted on September 3, 2014 at 9:00 pm by Chris under Conventions, General Tokusatsu News, Kamen Rider, Power Morphicon, Power Rangers, Super Sentai, TokuNation, TokuNation Site Updates

Talkin Toku is back!

After nearly 2 months since the last episode with your regular hosts, the boys of Talkin Toku return! Join Kickback, Den-O, and Sentai Tamashii in the all new, all different, all unedited and uncensored Talkin Toku!

Since the last full episode, Kickback and Den-O have gone to San Diego Comic Con, and Kickback then went to Power Morphicon. Listen to his reactions to the overall convention as we talk the good, the bad, and the ugly! Special shout-outs to some good friends made over the weekend – Dan’s Toku Rants, the Toku Ladies Podcast, Zeron Xepher, and Shukuen Shinobi, as well as the guys from Ranger Command Power Hour.

We also discuss some of the latest collectibles that have come out that we’ve purchased – S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider Ryugen and S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider Gridon – as well as discuss a lot of the upcoming Power Rangers Dino Charge toys and information from Power Morphicon to the present – including the rumor that Saban Brands isn’t interested in adapting Ressha Sentai ToQGer!

There’s also some brief discussion on Kamen Rider Drive – our hopes and our fears – as well as whether or not we’re going to go “all in” on the merchandise like we did with Kamen Rider Gaim (and have loved every wallet-draining moment).

Finally – it’s Gaim Time. The boys discuss everything so far in Kamen Rider Gaim up through episode 43 including some of the parallels that the show has with some other Hesei era Kamen Rider shows (spoilers right there). Will Micchy redeem himself? And do we want Micchy to redeem himself? And just who – and what – is Kamen Rider Jam? And our thoughts on whether or not the show ends on Episode 46 (the final episode written by Gen Urobuchi) or if it ends on Episode 47 (the rumored Kamen Rider Drive hand-off episode featuring Kamen Rider Jam).

Also – we want to give you guys free stuff. So we’re going to come up with ways to get free stuff, including the convention exclusive Super Megaforce Red Ranger key as well as a Mighty Morphin Green Ranger translucent key, and more importantly, an entire set of Season 2 S.H. Figuarts Akibarangers. Stay tuned for that and throw some suggestions out in our discussion thread! Check out the episode directly linked to this post below! (NOTE: You have to push play!)

See you in a couple of weeks!

Two Kamen Rider Girls to be Featured in Kamen Rider Drive

Posted on September 3, 2014 at 6:20 pm by Chris under Kamen Rider

What would Kamen Rider be without the Kamen Rider Girls? From guest appearances to catchy pop songs that play in each series, the Kamen Rider Girls have become almost as much as a staple to the series as the kicks and the motorcycles (…oops). And, just like in the earlier episodes of Kamen Rider Gaim, it would appear that a couple of the Kamen Rider Girls will be making guest appearances in the second episode of the upcoming Kamen Rider Drive!

Mitsuki Endo, known for representing Kamen Rider Fourze, as well as Hitomi Isaka, known for representing Kamen Rider OOO, will have guest roles in the second episode of Kamen Rider Drive, according to their personal Twitter accounts. As to what their role is in the series has yet to be announced.

Join in all of our discussion on the upcoming Kamen Rider Drive! This series looks to take us away from a lot of traditions (namely the motorcycle) and also bring back some former traditions that were missing from Kamen Rider Gaim. Join in our discussion and voice up your thoughts on everything as news breaks!

Let’s Watch Wednesdays Week 13 Kamen Rider Den-O 34-36

Posted on September 3, 2014 at 2:03 am by Den-O under Kamen Rider, TokuNation, TokuNation Spotlights

Kamen Rider Den-O has pulled back into the station for another round of Let’s Watch Wednesdays @ Tokunation!

Memories are time. As long as people hold onto them, the time erased by Imagin can be restored. Even the people lost can return. But if no one remembers you, you fall through the cracks of time ,travelling until you are remembered. The Sakurai Yuuto of the future has returned with more cards, forcing the young Yuuto to become Zeronos once more, and dooming him to fall through the cracks of time. Now Ryutaro’s determination to be stronger is greater than ever. To keep Yuuto from needing to transform and destroy more memories of his life, something greater must be created. Ryutaro will use his own power, Den-Liner, and the 4 Imagin to create Liner Form!

Den-O Trivia #13
We told you about the voice of Deneb, but now we’re looking at the man behind everyone’s favorite Imagin, Momtaros! Momotaros is brought to life by legendary voice actor Toshihiko Seki! Though his list of previous toku credits is primarily bit roles (Chameleon Nejire in Megaranger, Zebra Fangire in the Kiva Movie) Seki has been prolific as an anime actor.

His credits include: Rau Le Creuset in Gundam SEED, Duo Maxwell in Gundam Wing, Legato in Trigun, Iruka Umino in Naruto, and many other roles that span his nearly 30 year acting career. Mr. Seki has continued to voice the role of Momotaros since Den-O’s TV series began, even continuing the role all the way to this years Hesei Vs. Showa Featuring Super Sentai film! And it looks like there’s no end to this role in sight!

Kamen Rider Drive Secondary Writer Announced, Single Episode Stories Confirmed

Posted on August 29, 2014 at 3:49 pm by Paladin under Kamen Rider

The good people at The Tokusatsu Network have uncovered some new details about the production of Kamen Rider Drive! Tokusatsu script veteran Keiichi Hasegawa will be serving as secondary writer for this new series.

While primarily an Ultraman writer (Hasegawa has worked on virtually every Ultra series since 1996’s Tiga), Keiichi previously worked with main Drive writer Riku Sanjo on Kamen Rider W! Seems the hard-boiled crew is back together for another season.

In addition, TV Asahi producers have described Kamen Rider Drive’s crime-solving adventures are intended as single-episode stories. Will this storytelling format match up well with Sanjo & Hasegawa’s writings? Only time will tell!

Kamen Rider Drive premieres October 5th! Stay tuned to TokuNation for further details.

Kamen Rider Drive Story Details Confirmed Via Press Conference

Posted on August 28, 2014 at 3:58 pm by Paladin under Kamen Rider

We’ve learned quite a few things about the upcoming new Kamen Rider project this week! Now, thanks to The Tokusatsu Network we have a glimpse at Kamen Rider Drive’s most important element- the story!

As previously reported, the enemies of this series are known as Roimyuudo, a species of android-like creatures that wish to become human. Most of the Roiymyuudo are sealed within a digital network and do not have physical forms, although they can control ordinary citizens by forming an emotional connection.

The Roimyuudo Leaders do have physical bodies, and wish to raise an army in rebellion against humans. The main leader is known as Heart and works mostly in shadow to accomplish his goals. Another Roimyuudo called Brains carries out attacks on humans to gain new intelligence that may assist other fighters. A third mysterious villain character, named Chase is said to work alongside the Roimyuudo as a hitman- but there may be more to his story than currently known.

In addition we have learned quite a bit about Kamen Rider Drive- real name Shinnosuke Tomari. A member of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department before stepping aside due to personal tragedy, Shinnosuke is re-recruited for the Special Unit to fight the Roimyuudo-receiving the Drive Driver & supercar Trideron to aid him in battle.

The Tokyo MPD Special Unit also consists of

*Kiriko, the technical support expert. Unlike most of the Special Unit she is aware of Drive’s secret identity and as such she can sometimes cover for him.

*Rinna, a physicist in charge of researching the Roimyuudo and maintaining the Special Unit’s technology.

*Kyuu, a network researcher who harbors a secret obsession with the occult.

*Genpachirou, a hostile lieutenant who considers the Special Unit a burden and frequently mocks the other members.

*Tsurutarou, the Chief of Police with years of experience in regular detective work.

*Professor Streinbert, the mastermind behind the Drive technology.

Finally, we have also learned that the series’ theme song, SURPRISE-DRIVE will be performed by Mitsuru Matsuoka– who some fans may recognize as Kamen Rider Eternal!

So far everything about Kamen Rider Drive sounds worth watching! Be sure to tune in on October 5th and see exactly what this new Kamen Rider has to offer!
