Power Morphicon Update – Dan Southworth, the Quantum Ranger, Returns

Posted on June 2, 2014 at 11:04 pm by Chris under Conventions, Power Morphicon, Power Rangers

It’s Monday – time for another Official Power Morphicon update!

One of the all-time fan-favorite Power Rangers is returning to Power Morphicon this year. Power Morphicon announced today that Dan Southworth, who played Eric Myers the Quantum Ranger from Power Rangers Time Force, will be in attendance at the show this year. He joins a guest list that contains practically 90 special guests from the Power Rangers, VR Troopers, Big Bad Beetleborgs, and Kamen Rider Dragon Knight franchises.

It was also announced by individuals on Twitter involved with the operations of Power Morphicon that registration for the show will end in July – so now you have a time frame of when you need to register! But you’ve already registered, right? If not – click here to start your registration process!

TokuNation.com and the Talkin Toku Podcast will be in attendance at this year’s Power Morphicon as “Platinum Members”, meaning we will have front row seats and first access to bring you coverage of the show! Power Morphicon will be the second-to-last convention we cover this year – first with Denver Comic Con, then San Diego Comic Con, Power Morphicon, and ending with New York Comic Con! Click the discussion link to see the list we’ve compiled of all the special guests. See you at the show!

Power Rangers Legendary 5 Inch RPM Red Ranger Gallery

Posted on June 1, 2014 at 2:31 pm by Chris under Power Rangers

The wave 4 assortment of the Power Rangers Super Megaforce 5 inch action figures has been released (online at least) and it’s one of our first chances to pick up some of the Legendary Red Rangers from past seasons. With special thanks to our friend Fury Diamond of RangerCrew.com we are able to bring you some great galleries of all the figures in this case assortment. First up? The Red Ranger from the fan-favorite series Power Rangers RPM!

For someone who is personally a huge fan of the S.H. Figuarts line of figures (if you don’t know what those are, check out our galleries section and browse through numerous entries) I can say I was pleasantly surprised at how simple, yet fun and detailed, this figure actually is. While there’s some minor issues that will always bug me (the way the figure is molded where the back is curved while standing straight up causing posing issues), I actually cannot recommend this figure enough. While the weapons aren’t necessarily painted (the Street Saber has a silver painted blade, but the Nitro Blaster is simply red plastic) the detail in them is pretty slick for a 5 inch action figure.

The Legendary RPM Red Ranger comes with his Nitro Blaster and his Street Saber accessories, features a decent amount of posability and articulation, and isn’t going to cost you upwards of $40 like S.H. Figuarts do. If you’re a fan of either Power Rangers RPM or the Super Sentai version Go-Onger, this figure is, in my honest opinion, a must purchase (until a higher grade collectible figure is released which there are no plans for right now).

Please click here to see 30+ pictures of the RPM Red Ranger! Stay tuned throughout the next couple weeks as we continue to release galleries of all the figures from this case assortment. Check your local stores and favorite online retailers to see if and when these figures come in stock! GET IN GEAR!

Posted on June 1, 2014 at 1:18 pm by Chris under Conventions, Other Conventions, Power Rangers

To all of our friends and fans up north – during the weekend of September 27th, 28th in Toronto you will have a chance to meet veteran Power Ranger and anime voice actor Johnny Yong Bosch. He will be appearing at Unplugged Expo, which will be held that weekend of September at the Chestnut Conference Centre in downtown Toronto.

Just in case you’re not familiar with Johnny Yong Bosch – he played “Adam Park” the second Black Ranger from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, as well as the Green Ranger for both Power Rangers Zeo and Power Rangers Turbo. Saban Brands’ “The Vortexx” Programming Block to End This Fall

Posted on May 30, 2014 at 6:50 pm by Chris under Power Rangers

Well, that didn’t take long did it?

Saban Brands, the company that brings you every iteration of Power Rangers, has pulled the plug on their programming block known as The Vortexx. This fall, The Vortexx (a Saturday morning block of kids television) will be replaced by One Magnificent Morning, a five hour block of programming which features shows that feature family-friendly topics (our personal favorite right now is a new show called SWAG, because nothing says family like SWAG!).

The fate of the shows airing on The Vortexx right now are unknown, though a few of the shows (Digimon Fusion and Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal) air currently on Nick Toons while Dragonball Z Kai is going back to Cartoon Network for their recreated Adult Swim programming block. But why are we posting about this? Because Saban Brands had once said they were going to use The Vortexx to air the vast library of Power Rangers (everything except the new seasons, which air on Nickelodeon and Nick Toons). We didn’t even make it through the end of Power Rangers Lost Galaxy before the programming block has been removed. Looks like it’s back to Netflix or your DVD releases to catch up on all those old Power Rangers shows.

Go ahead and share your thoughts. It’s important to note that with The Vortexx ending, there is now no children’s television block airing on bare-bone basic cable on Saturday mornings. For those of who us who grew up racing home to watch cartoons after school and waking up early to watch our favorite shows on Saturday mornings, this is truly one of those things that the new generation will never get to experience.

NOTE! Saban Brands has yet to make an official announcement. There is still that possibility that The Vortexx will end up somewhere, somehow, but in all likelihood, this is the end. Thanks to ToonZone.net for the news.

Talkin Toku Podcast Episode 010 Released – Mighty Morphin Gojira Reboot

Posted on May 28, 2014 at 4:00 pm by Chris under Godzilla, Power Rangers, TokuNation, TokuNation Site Updates

Before the epic crossover with our friends at RangerCommand comes out, we have some movie stuff to talk about!  Join Chris (@rankal), Jordan (@DenO_TokuNation), and Tom (@SoulInkChu) as they discuss the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie reboot that was announced a couple weeks back, and then stick around as they discuss everything about the blockbuster hit Godzilla.

NOTE!  If you haven’t seen the new Godzilla movie, this podcast episode contains INCREDIBLY DETAILED SPOILERS!  If you do not wish to be spoiled, do not listen to this episode.  Or at least turn the Godzilla portion on mute!

Episode details – the boys talk Mighty Morphin Power Rangers reboot, and two of the three podcasters think the movie will be a blockbuster flop.  Hear their reasons as to why and as the lone podcaster who is hopeful tries his best to defend the franchise and the possible success of the movie.  The boys then talk Godzilla – including the overall story of the movie, what worked and didn’t work, their favorite parts, and what monsters they’d like to see Godzilla take on in a sequel.  There’s also a moment where Tom gets a little too excited about his trip to Japan and … well … you just have to hear it for yourself.

Once you’ve listened to the episode, feel free to discuss it here on the TokuNation.com forums.  And stay till the end of the episode to hear a special promo for the upcoming crossover with Ranger Command Power Hour.  Part 1 will focus discussion on the pro’s and con’s of American tokusatsu, namely Power Rangers, while part 2 (the next episode of Talkin Toku) will feature the pro’s and con’s of Japanese tokusatsu, namely Super Sentai and Kamen Rider.  See you then, and take a listen to the episode below!

Power Morphicon Guest Update – Brad Hawkins, Jackie Marchand, and More!

Posted on May 26, 2014 at 10:43 pm by Chris under Conventions, Kamen Rider, Power Morphicon, Power Rangers

We’re less than 90 days away from the biggest and greatest Power Morphicon yet! Featuring close to 100 guests from Power Rangers of just about every single season, VR Troopers, Big Bad Beetleborgs, Masked Rider, Kamen Rider Dragon Knight, and more, you still have time to pre-register for the show! All you need to do is click here to register and guarantee yourself a chance to join in the fun! New guests were added to the line-up today, check it out below!

  • Brad Hawkins (“Ryan Steele” of VR Troopers, voice of Trey the Zeo Gold Ranger in Power Rangers Zeo, originally cast as the Mighty Morphin White Ranger)
  • Jackie Marchand (writer for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Zeo, Turbo, In Space, Lost Galaxy, Lightspeed Rescue, Time Force, Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder, SPD, Mystic Force, Operation Overdrive, Jungle Fury, RPM)
  • Ilia Volok (“Master Org”, Power Rangers Wild Force)
  • Mark Musashi (stunts for Kamen Rider Dragon Knight, suit actor for Masked Rider 2 in Kamen Rider: The First, suit actor for Shocker Rider in Kamen Rider: The Next)
  • Ryan Goldstein (“Kite” and “Animus” in Power Rangers Wild Force)

You don’t want to miss this awesome line-up.  Think about this for a moment – 12 Red Rangers, three full teams (Power Rangers SPD, Power Rangers Wild Force, Power Rangers Megaforce/Super Megaforce), the voices of 8 major villains throughout the series (Rita Repulsa, Lord Zedd, Goldar, Divatox, Dark Spectre, Trakeena, Diabolico, Ransik), all but three seasons represented (sorry Ninja Storm, Mystic Force, and Operation Overdrive fans), and of course who can forget – the return of the original Red Ranger and Zeo Gold Ranger … Austin St. John.  Don’t forget that Saban Brands and Bandai of America will be in attendance as well, the latter most likely with an exclusive offering for attendees.

TokuNation is proud to be attending this year’s Power Morphicon as a Platinum Member and we will provide full coverage of the event as it happens.  On top of that, Kickback from our Talkin Toku podcast will be in attendance along with our close friends trekkieB47 and TheCinemaSlob of the Ranger Command Power Hour Podcast, so you know there will be some hijinks and recordings involved the weekend of the show.
