S.H.Monster Arts Godzilla 1989 Version Revealed

Posted on May 24, 2016 at 12:19 am by Kiryu under Godzilla

The S.H.Monster Arts line dives into yet another era of Godzilla, this one based on his Godzilla VS Biollante appearance.

S.H.Monster Arts Godzilla 1989 commands a very high price point with a suggested MSRB of 19,980 yen.

But what separates this King of Monsters from previous releases are a few built in features activated via a set of switches built into the figure’s neck: according to the product page the first function activates an LED gimmick which lights up the spines and mouth to replicate the iconic Atomic Roar attack, the second function seems to be a sound feature which plays BGMs straight from the movie.

S.H.Monster Arts Godzilla 1989 appears to be a standard release, and will drop sometime in October 2016.

S.H.MonsterArts Godzilla Feat. EVA-01 Edition Revealed

Posted on May 19, 2016 at 10:19 pm by Den-O under Godzilla

Yet another dual tribute to Hideaki Anno’s upcoming Shin Godzilla/Godzilla Resurgence and his prolific anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion has just been revealed!

Releasing in January 2017 is S.H.MonsterArts Godzilla Feat. EVA-01! Similar in nature to the recently revealed Mecha Godzilla Eva 01 Version vinyl, this figure is a cross promotion for the upcoming theatrical release of Shin Godzilla. This particular release is based on the Godzilla 1994 monsterart which is pretty cool considering the following year is when Evangelion premiered. This version of Godzilla is done up in iconic Eva Unit 01 color scheme which oddly gives him the appearance of wearing a green bikini. (Try unseeing that!)

S.H.MonsterArts Godzilla Feat. EVA-01 will be released as a Tamashii Web Exclusive for 9936 yen.

City Shrouded In Darkness: Toku Survival Game Announced

Posted on February 17, 2016 at 1:05 am by Kiryu under General Tokusatsu News, Godzilla, Ultraman

Ever wondered what it’ll be like to live in a world where giant monster attacks are frequent? Well now you can thanks to a new Toku themed survival video game coming out of the woodwork with City Shrouded in Darkness having been recently been announced.

City Shrouded in Darkness puts players in the role of a civilian trying to survive a Kaiju battle that erupted in the middle of a city. Various franchises will be featured in this unique game, with Ultraman already being confirmed and Godzilla currently rumoured(though unconfirmed at the time of this writing) via the Gormaru Island Facebook page, the same face book page also posted a teaser which can be viewed by making the jump here.

No release date or plans for localization for the game’s been announced just quite yet, though it’s been confirmed for PS Vita and PS4 consoles exclusively.

Kamen Rider Den-O Designer, Yasushi Nirasawa, Has Passed Away

Posted on February 4, 2016 at 11:16 pm by Den-O under Garo, Godzilla, Kamen Rider

And now we turn to a truly sad bit of news today. We unfortunately have to report that famed design artist, Yasushi Nirasawa, has passed away at 52. And while that name may not immediately evoke a response, if you’re a fan of the Kamen Rider franchise then you undoubtedly have seen Mr. Nirasawa’s work whether you realized it or not.

Though Mr. Nirasawa has worked with the franchise since Blade he’s most often remembered for his work on Kamen Rider Den-O as the designer behind the Imagin. Today marks the passing of an immense figure in the tokusatsu world. While Den-O is of course my personal favorite of his works, Mr. Nirasawa had his hands in a number of series familiar to fans.

Kamen Rider Blade
Kamen Rider Kabuto
Kamen Rider Den-O
Kamen Rider Decade
Kamen Rider G
Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger
Golden Knight Garo
Godzilla Final Wars

I’d like to take this moment to personally say that without this great mans’ vision and talent I don’t know how I would have ever gotten hooked on Kamen Rider. His designs gave birth to the powerful characters & personalities that first got me into the franchise. Whether breathing life into the terrifying and menacing Worms & Undead of Kamen Riders Kabuto & Blade respectively, or the heartwarming & fun antics of Den-O’s Imagin, Mr Nirasawa brought a special something to every thing he touched.

As one of his greatest (or most annoying depending on your tastes) creations once said, “From start to finish, I’m great!”

Goodbye, Mr. Nirasawa.
