Talkin Toku Podcast Episode 010 Released – Mighty Morphin Gojira Reboot

Posted on May 28, 2014 at 4:00 pm by Chris under Godzilla, Power Rangers, TokuNation, TokuNation Site Updates

Before the epic crossover with our friends at RangerCommand comes out, we have some movie stuff to talk about!  Join Chris (@rankal), Jordan (@DenO_TokuNation), and Tom (@SoulInkChu) as they discuss the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie reboot that was announced a couple weeks back, and then stick around as they discuss everything about the blockbuster hit Godzilla.

NOTE!  If you haven’t seen the new Godzilla movie, this podcast episode contains INCREDIBLY DETAILED SPOILERS!  If you do not wish to be spoiled, do not listen to this episode.  Or at least turn the Godzilla portion on mute!

Episode details – the boys talk Mighty Morphin Power Rangers reboot, and two of the three podcasters think the movie will be a blockbuster flop.  Hear their reasons as to why and as the lone podcaster who is hopeful tries his best to defend the franchise and the possible success of the movie.  The boys then talk Godzilla – including the overall story of the movie, what worked and didn’t work, their favorite parts, and what monsters they’d like to see Godzilla take on in a sequel.  There’s also a moment where Tom gets a little too excited about his trip to Japan and … well … you just have to hear it for yourself.

Once you’ve listened to the episode, feel free to discuss it here on the TokuNation.com forums.  And stay till the end of the episode to hear a special promo for the upcoming crossover with Ranger Command Power Hour.  Part 1 will focus discussion on the pro’s and con’s of American tokusatsu, namely Power Rangers, while part 2 (the next episode of Talkin Toku) will feature the pro’s and con’s of Japanese tokusatsu, namely Super Sentai and Kamen Rider.  See you then, and take a listen to the episode below!

Talkin Toku Episode 009 – Attack of the No No Cat

Posted on May 8, 2014 at 12:07 pm by Chris under Conventions, Godzilla, Kamen Rider, Power Morphicon, Power Rangers, San Diego Comic Con, Super Sentai, TokuNation, TokuNation Site Updates

The boys of the Talkin Toku Podcast are back at it with the release of their 9th episode, Attack of the No No Cat (blame Tom for that one). Join your hosts Kickback (Chris, @rankal), Den-O (Jordan, @DenO_Tokunation), and Sentai Tamashii (Tom, @SoulInkChu) as they touch on a number of topics from last week in the world of tokusatsu!

Some of the hot topics discussed – their reactions on the international trailer for the new Godzilla movie, their thoughts on the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic from Free Comic Book Day and just why Saban Brands did nothing to promote it (as well as some behind-the-scenes knowledge in the world of comics from our very own Sentai Tamashii, who works a freelance colorist and has done jobs for Marvel, DC, IDW Publishing, and Archie Comics), some good old fashioned toy talk with Kachidoki Arms and S.H. Figuarts Kyoryu Gold, and the usual show talk of Kamen Rider Gaim and Ressha Sentai ToQGer. But there’s even more stuff that’s discussed throughout the episode, including the No No Cat, spooky haunted microphones and/or alien contact, follow up on our last toy debate on Tamashii Nations and Super Sentai Figuarts, and so much more. Take a listen below!

Kickback also discusses the Fruit Henshin Contest and some details of the upcoming crossover episode with our good friends from the Ranger Command Power Hour Podcast scheduled for later this month. All the show details are below – do us a favor and click “Discuss” and share your thoughts! Till next time!

SDCC 2013 Exclusive Gold-Plated Legacy Morpher Gallery

Posted on April 24, 2014 at 12:43 pm by Chris under Conventions, Power Rangers, San Diego Comic Con, TokuNation, TokuNation Site Updates

It’s Morphin Time!

When Bandai of America first announced the 20th Anniversary Legacy Morpher, the first thing most fans and collectors asked was if and when we would ever get a Green & White Ranger version. As we know by now, we would have a Toys’R’Us release of the Mighty Morphin Green Ranger and White Ranger hit shelves early in 2014. But before we had that, the only option was the elusive and very pricey San Diego Comic Con 2013 Exclusive Gold-Plated Legacy Morpher.

Limited to 1000 pieces and available only at San Diego Comic Con 2013, this version of the morpher was, for a small time, the most sought over Power Rangers merchandise quite possibly in the history of the franchise. I remember when I purchased mine I had offers for double or triple what I paid for as I walked past a line of hopeful attendees.

TokuNation.com is proud to be present to you a high resolution gallery of over 50 images of this exclusive piece of merchandise, with comparison shots to the mass retail version. If you have any additional picture requests, please post them in the discussion thread. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy this (in my opinion) beautiful exclusive!

Talkin Toku Podcast Episode 008 Released

Posted on April 22, 2014 at 12:51 pm by Chris under Kamen Rider, Power Rangers, Super Sentai, TokuNation, TokuNation Site Updates

It’s time to talk some toku with the Talkin Toku Podcast! Join your hosts Kickback aka Chris (@rankal), Den-O aka Jordan (@DenO_Tokunation), and Sentai Tamashii aka Tom (@SoulInkChu) as they talk the latest news to hit the tokusatsu community!

In Episode 008 – Articulated Boobs join the guys as they talk about the winning Ranger Keys of the Morphin Madness contest. They transition in to discussing some of the most exciting and promising news in recent memory for Power Rangers with the apparent return of Judd Lynn as executive producer of the upcoming Power Rangers Dino Charge season, adapted from Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger, in 2015. And the toy topic of the podcast? Are S.H. Figuarts of Super Sentai characters dead?

For the first time (and not the last time if you guys enjoy it), our conversation and discussion about Power Rangers Super Megaforce “Silver Lining Part 2” is done in the way of MST3K, with Jordan watching the episode live on the podcast. The part that makes it hilarious to listen to, aside from his criticisms of Power Rangers as a whole, is the fact he had no idea we were recording. Enjoy his natural comedic wit in this segment! The boys also discuss Kamen Rider Gaim, with the return of Kamen Rider Bravo and Kamen Rider Gridon. But where does the show go from here? The boys attempt to speculate. And discussion of Ressha Sentai ToQGer is hijacked with discussion of Mini-Pla ToQOh.

Be sure to stay tuned to the end of the episode for a special promotion of the upcoming Talkin Ranger Toku Command at the Nation Summer Crossover Event, where the Talkin Toku at the Nation Podcast joins forces with the Ranger Command Power Hour Podcast for an epic podcast crossover. A big special thanks to @trekkieb47 for editing the promo. Be sure to check out the Ranger Command Power Hour Podcast by checking out their official site – RangerCommand.com.

Talkin Toku Podcast Episode 007 – Tin Can Madness – Released

Posted on April 8, 2014 at 11:00 am by Chris under Kamen Rider, Power Rangers, Super Sentai, TokuNation, TokuNation Site Updates

The original trio of the Talkin Toku Podcast are back together for the first time in a month! Join Kickback (Chris, @rankal), Den-O (Jordan, @DenO_Tokunation), and Sentai Tamashii (Tom, @SoulInkChu)) in their latest adventure of discussing all things tokusatsu! The last time the group was together was before events like NJCC and LexCon, and now that they’re together, they spend some time remembering the conventions. Listen to Tom’s story of how he missed purchasing a holy grail for his collection by a matter of minutes! Find out what Steve Cardenas (Rocky, Mighty Morphin Red Power Ranger #2, Zeo Blue Power Ranger) did to troll Jordan at LexCon!

Gears shift as the crew then discusses the recent developments on Kamen Rider Gaim. What was everyone’s most “OMG” moment when watching the show? What are their thoughts on DJ Sagura? The trainbow is tasted once more as Tom and Jordan discuss the Shadow Line extensively with Ressha Sentai ToQGer and Jordan makes a bold prediction for just who ToQ #6 will end up being! Finally, Chris gushes over the episode “Spirit of the Tiger” from Power Rangers Super Megaforce. But, as with anything Power Rangers related, someone ends up hogging the spotlight as the crew discusses, for the last time in a public format, the entire debacle that was Morphin Madness Round 3.

For those who were caught up heavily in Morphin Madness, this is your chance to get the scoop behind the controversial Twitter campaign with the hash tag #NoMoreTommy from the creator of that movement himself – Jordan. What was the real purpose behind it? Was there any spite attached to it, and if so, why? Jordan reveals all this episode. Check out the episode details below and take a listen for yourself!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Unfortunately, we had some technical difficulties with the audio on this podcast. The problem has been identified and will be corrected going forward, but sadly the original source for the audio is lost forever, meaning the only way you can hear this episode is through the current quality. After spending a few days trying to fix the audio from the source material, the decision was made by all three hosts to release the episode because, honestly, we thought it was a pretty damn good episode. We do apologize for the lackluster quality of the audio and hope you will still give the episode a listen. Again, future episodes will not have this problem.

TOKUNATION IS TACONATION

Posted on April 1, 2014 at 11:30 am by Tony_Bacala under TokuNation Site Updates

Toku Nation has decided to switch focus. Since everyone thinks it’s Taco Nation, or just says Taco Nation because it’s much funnier than Toku Nation, we’re gonna roll with it. This will be an all Taco site. The roll out begins today. The forums have already been converted, and we will be implementing the front page Taco conversion over the next couple days. We hope you join us on the Taco Roller Coaster. Jump into our Taco on the forums here: http://www.tokunation.com/forum.php!

UPDATE: We’ve decided to stay with TOKU instead of TACO. Taco conversion canceled. Carry on.

Talkin Toku Episode 005 – Super Mega Episode – Released!

Posted on February 28, 2014 at 1:45 pm by Chris under Conventions, Power Rangers, Super Sentai, TokuNation, TokuNation Site Updates, Toy Fair

After the release of Episode 04, “The Longest Hiatus”, the hosts of Talkin Toku at the Nation vowed to never let such a long hiatus happen again. And then Kickback’s computer blew up, and an unintentional delay occured – creating the new longest hiatus. To make up for it we’re bringing you an episode crammed full of discussion on the things you want to hear us talk about! After being challenged by a listener and a good friend, there is no dedicated talk to Kamen Rider Gaim in this episode. That’s right – NO JUICY FRUIT. Instead, we focus on the bigger items that occured … Toy Fair 2014 with Sentai Tamashii, who was there and provided a ton of the information and images that we put up! We spend the most time discussing Power Rangers Super Megaforce and its first episode premiere – and end the show tasting the trainbow with discussion on the premiere episode of Ressha Sentai ToQGer! Here’s a more specific run down!

  • Kickback’s computer woes
  • A News Brief to touch on a few items we didn’t have time to discuss in full
  • Sentai Tamashii’s first hand experience of Toy Fair 2014
  • Why Sentai Tamashii can’t be allowed to attend conventions anymore
  • Power Rangers Dino Charge and the skipping of Tokumei Sentai GoBusters
  • Our thoughts on the premiere of Power Rangers Super Megaforce
  • Our thoughts on the use of the suits of Gosei Sentai DaiRanger
  • Tasting the Trainbow with Ressha Sentai ToQGer’s Premiere
  • An inappropriate conclusion involving Super Mega, Sentai Tamashii, and his wife

– Access to the private forum where a lot of site planning occurs

We’re looking for someone who has some decent knowledge of Godzilla and all his monster buddies, and who is excited and passionate for the franchise, not just the upcoming movie. If that sounds like you and you’re interested in helping grow our Godzilla section, please let us know by following the directions below. And as usual, there are perks!

– Access to the private forum where a lot of site planning occurs
– A shiny badge to show everyone you’re part of the staff

It is important to note that these are volunteer positions – no one here at TokuNation.com is paid for their work, we all do this because of the passion we have and the love we have for each property. But with your passion, combined with our passion, we can continue to build an awesome community and cover even more of the genre of tokusatsu that we all love and admire so much. Thanks for your interest everyone and we look forward to hearing from you soon!

S.H. Figuarts Armed Tyranno Ranger Gallery

Posted on February 22, 2014 at 12:27 am by Den-O under Power Rangers, Super Sentai, TokuNation, TokuNation Site Updates

It’s time for another trip down memory lane with the original dionsaur sentai. From Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger it’s S.H. Figuarts Armed Tyranno Ranger! This recent Tamashii Web Exclusive release is better known to western fans as the Mighty Morphin Armored Red Ranger, it was released in North American markets by Bluefin in Power Rangers 20th Anniversary packaging.

This figure represents Geki, Tyranno Ranger, after the death of Burai/Dragon Ranger. He inherited the Dragon Ranger powers from his brother and with them control over the mighty Dragon Caesar! This event was interpreted in the US MMPR adaptation as the Green Ranger powers being weakened and requiring a temporary host in the Red Ranger. The real world explanation for this is the above Zyuranger scenario, at the time no more footage was available of the Green Ranger. In the source footage he was literally dead. It wasn’t until the “Zyu2” footage was created by Toei that the Green Ranger could return on temporary occasions.

Overall this figure takes the best elements of both Tyranno & Dragon Rangers and crafts one excellent toy with them. If you have either of the other 2 figures you may feel this one is superfluous. Trust us, it isn’t. It’s another excellent addition to any Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger/Mighty Morphin Power Rangers collection and will complement your other figures well. Click “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums” at the bottom of this post to view the full image gallery.

Be sure to check out our galleries of the previous Zyuranger/MMPR releases as well:

Talkin Toku at the Nation Podcast Episode 004 – The Longest Hiatus – Released!

Posted on January 26, 2014 at 12:00 pm by Chris under TokuNation, TokuNation Site Updates

It’s a new year and thus it’s the first new episode of Talkin Toku at the Nation for 2014! Your hosts Kickback, Den-O, and Sentai Tamashii return from their holiday hiatus (the longest hiatus!) to talk about everything that happened over the break! In this episode, you’ll learn how Den-O received the nickname Cease and Desist Jordan, our thoughts regarding how Bandai of America is handling the release of female Ranger Keys in the toy line of Power Rangers Super Megaforce, how we think Tamashii Nations/Bluefin Tamashii Nations should handle their future releases of S.H. Figuarts for Super Sentai/Power Rangers, the new story-arch for Kamen Rider Gaim, and Sentai Tamashii ruins the Peach Energy Lock Seed, as well as Kamen Rider Den-O, for everyone for the rest of their lives.

SPOILERS ALERT! If you haven’t watched Kamen Rider Gaim through Episode 13, you should probably skip the part about the episode. Don’t worry, we give you some buffer time before we dive right in (even though Den-O tries a few times to start the Gaim conversation early). SPECIAL NOTE! Talkin Toku at the Nation is best listened to with headphones! If you don’t get the joke at the start of the episode … put on some headphones, you’ll hear the weird noise and it’ll make sense then.
