2016 has come and gone, and tomorrow marks our official 5th anniversary! January 4th marks 5 years since we began this adventure together, and it also marks the end of our annual Toku Toy Box giveaway! Whether you know him from recent appearances in films like Super Hero Taisen Z or Gokaiger VS Gavan, or from his original television series, Space Sheriff Gavan has been an iconic hero in the tokusatsu world for decades.

Now the Metal Heroes franchise stands at the edge of it’s 35th anniversary in 2017. Gavan is getting a lot of love next year with the 1:1 scale replica of the Laser Blade, a renewal figuart with his bike, and yet another movie appearance! So we felt the time was right, now more than ever, to take a look back at the original S.H. Figuarts Space Sheriff Gavan for Toku Toy Box!

Even though this special release was literally just revealed today at Tamashii Nations 2016 we’ve already received confirmed release information for it! Thanks to a listing on Amazon.JP we have confirmed details for the Tamashii Lab Laser Blade Origin Version!

This bundle gets you this new unique version of the Laser Blade, new more ornamental display bases that differ from the original release, and the DVD/Blu-Rays of the Space Squad film and the Girls In Trouble Special! This is absolutely something of a must have for die-hard Metal Hero collectors. It was nice knowing you all, I’m off to be homeless and clutch this thing in an alleyway somewhere.

Great news for Space Sheriff Gavan fans – the upcoming Beam Sword or Laser Blade will be seeing a release via Bluefin Tamashii Nations here in the United States! Originally only available through Premium Bandai Japan, the US release will hit in January of 2017 for a suggested retail price of $164.99.

You can pre-order yours through Amazon today for $165.99.

Hot on the heels of the Gavan/Dekaranger Space Squad movie announcement is a brand new revel for Metal Hero collectors. Possibly to coincide with the upcoming films’ release is S.H. Figuars Space Sheriff Gavan Type G (Space Squad)! Pictures from the C3Tokyo event, and this figure, come via Figsoku.

We don’t currently have any confirmed release details for this figure. What we can tell you is that a renewal of the Gavan S.H. Figuarts mold was first revealed way back at Tamashii Nations 2014. Though it never actually saw release. This film may finally be the excuse Bandai needed to release the renewal Gavan body, with Type G beating out original Gavan.

As we get more confirmed details for S.H. Figuars Space Sheriff Gavan Type G (Space Squad) we’ll keep you updated.

This expensive collector piece was revealed only yesterday, but now we have our first official look at the Tamashii Lab Laser Blade from Space Sheriff Gavan! 

As reported previously this impressive item features an IR sensor that lets the Laser Blade detect your hand as you slide ir up the blade to “charge” it in the same way that Gavan does for his Gavan Dynamic attack. Whilst doing so you can press a button on the hilt to the either the series BGM, or rapidly press it to recreate sound effects from the show. These images also confirm the inclusion of the fantastic set of display hands to hold the Laser blade. See the promo video below with the legendary actor who played Gavan, Mr. Kenji Ohba, demonstrating these wonderful features.

The Tamashii Lab Laser Blade is set for January 2017 release for a whopping 16,200 yen.

More good news for Metal Hero fans!

Toei has announced a high-definition home media release for the legendary Metal Hero, Space Sheriff Gavan!

Two box sets will be released containing the entire 44-episode series. The first announced special feature is an interview with the Gavan crew- specifically, Kenji Ohba (who portrayed the title character), Osamu Kaneda (the series’ action director) and Jun Murakami, stuntman & suit actor for Gavan.

Volume 1 will be released on January 1, 2017 while Volume 2 is tentatively scheduled for release on March 8, 2017. Each volume is priced at 29000 Yen.

Legacy Collection what? It looks like Tamashii Nations is getting in on premium 1:1 scale replicas for a whole new subset of fans, specifically Metal Heroes. We’ve just gotten our first look at the upcoming Tamashii Lab Laser Blade! A lifesize replica of Space Sheriff Gavan’s signature weapon.

This surprising piece looks to be one of the most complex replica weapons Bandai has produced to date. Featuring an IR sensor, the Laser Blade allows you to slide your hand up the blade to “charge” it in the same way that Gavan does for his Gavan Dynamic attack. Whilst doing so the Blade lights up in sequence and plays the appropriate sound effects while also playing the series’ BGM!

The Tamashii Lab Laser Blade is set for January 2017 release for a whopping 16,200 yen. Currently it’s believed to be a Premium Bandai exclusive releases but we don’t have confirmation on that as of yet.

Both Gavans are here together at last! And thanks to Shishioh, we now have photos of the Tamashi Web exclusive S.H.Figuarts Gavan Type G figure which was just recently released.

Gavan Type G includes a swap on head mimicing his light up eyes, the signature Laser Blade in both a finishing slashing motion and a regular version, and swappable hands.

Courtesy of GA Graphic we can feast our eyes upon “new” images of Medicom‘s upcoming RAH DX Space Sheriff Gavan images! We saw these images initially sans background towards the end of last month. Now we can see the unaltered images.
