Roberto Orci Talks Power Rangers Movie with IGN

Posted on July 21, 2014 at 12:44 pm by Chris under Power Rangers

The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is getting a movie – and Roberto Orci was announced last week as the film’s executive producer. And now, a week later, he’s ready to talk, and did so with IGN’s Eric Goldman. We’ve taken the liberty of sharing the interview with you here!

IGN: How did you get involved in Power Rangers?

Orci: I happen to know Erik Feig, because we had some fun times doing Ender’s Game and Now You See Me. He’s at Lionsgate and he had mentioned that they were pursuing this property at Lionsgate and we just, because we’re friends, got to talking about it and he sort of roped me in – or I roped him in! I’m not sure which is which!

IGN: How do you approach the tone on something like this? It obviously has a perception going in, but it’s also going to be pushed to a wider audience besides the pre-existing fans.

Orci: Part of it is seeing what we remember of it; our generation and what our memories of it are. Part of it is seeing the fans of it today. There are a lot of kids that love it today, and so it’s about doing your homework. You talk to everybody who loves it and you find out why they love it and then you figure, what is the appropriate translation of that, tonally, to now? We have the added benefit of a movie is going to be two hours, or whatever it is, so it’s gotta have an arc and a reality to it that maybe you don’t have a chance to do all the time. That’s going to be the exciting part.

IGN: Presumably it’s not tied to the 21-year of history of the show. Are you going to use the same characters from the original series?

Orci: One of the first things we did was learn and read… They have 600 pages of research that they have on their stuff. We read through the synopsis of everything they did and we are actually taking into account quite a bit of the canon in a real way. We’re not just a leave it behind reboot. [Haim] Saban cares very much about that. This is something that he created. I had to go to his house, personally, to tell him, “Listen, I’m your man. Miller and Stenz, these are your guys. I promise you I won’t ruin your franchise.” And he said, “It’s very important to me, because kids around the world know what the Power Rangers are. So you can’t just come in here and walk all over it. It better be consistent with what I’ve been doing.” And I said, “Yes sir!”

IGN: Oh, so then does it does exist within the continuity of the TV show?

Orci: It’s got a continuity within the world. I can’t tell you what, but it does have a continuity.

IGN: As a Fringe fan, hearing Miller and Stenz were working with you on this, it’s fun to have you together again on such a different project.

Orci: It’s great. I’ve been working with them for years, so when I found out they were available, I called Erik Feig and said, “Hey, these guys might want to come on. What do you think of the three of us…?” He was like, “Come on! Let’s do it!”

IGN: Think we might hear anything about a director in the not too distant future?

Orci: I’m sure they’d like one right away! We’ve got to give them a script first.

IGN: Lastly, I’m sure you know you’re going to be getting this question… Any possibility for cameos or appearances by original cast members?

Orci: Of course. That’s something we want to rely on the Saban group to tell us. They have a lot of internal knowledge of their franchise and we’re just learning now. We’ve seen it only as fans, but they actually know it inside and out, so I’d love to know what fans want to see.

Again, special thanks to IGN for this interview that, obviously, has answered some questions for Power Rangers fans. You check out the original article by IGN clicking here. So what do you think Power Rangers fans? Excited yet? Sound off!

AC13 Arms Change Gaim Kiwami Arms Gallery & Video Review

Posted on July 17, 2014 at 9:44 pm by Den-O under Kamen Rider

Lock Open!

It’s time once again for TokuNation to take a look at Bandai of Japan’s wonderful Arms Change toyline! Though this figure is the last in Kamen Rider Gaim’s retail Arms Change line, the line lives on with a slew of upcoming Premium Bandai releases so be sure to look for those galleries in the future! For today we’re examining the walking fruit basket tank that is AC 13 Kamen Rider Gaim Kiwami Arms!

This fantastic figure represents Gaim’s ultimate form Kiwami Arms. As such this form doesn’t really have an arms of it’s own but instead by removing a few pieces this figure can use any previously released Arms! The gimmick in show gives this form access merely to their weapons but the toy carries the gimmick of the line & show full circle. Included with Kiwami is a set of “dummy” Kachidoki Arms armor, dubiously nicknamed “Crappydoki”. This spring loaded feature let’s you recreate the “cast off” transformation of this form in show. You also get the DJ Gun in both it’s modes for weapons with this figure.

A fitting end to the Arms Change retail line, Ac13 Kiwami Arms Gaim should be a welcome addition to any Gaim collection. Be sure to check out 50+ images of this wonderful toy after the jump! But before you check out our gallery be sure to check out this awesome video review by our good buddy and site contributor baltmatrix!

Toy Tuesdays: S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider Black & Battle Hopper Renewal Gallery

Posted on July 15, 2014 at 8:43 pm by Den-O under Kamen Rider

It’s time once again for a Toy Tuesdays Gallery at TokuNation! This time we’re taking a look at a blast form the past, renewed for today. It’s S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider Black Renewal & S.H. Figuarts Battle Hopper Renewal!

One of the most popular Showa era riders is undeniably Kamen Rider Black. Heralded as one of the best rider shows out there is it any wonder Bandai finally decided to give collectors a better alternative to owning Black? The original S.H. Figuarts releases of both Black & Battle Hopper, while fine for their time, have been outshined since by far far better figures. So to rectify this situation Bandai released a new Black & Battle Hoppper as the first in a line of Kamen Rider Renewals!

The short of it is that these two figures are fantastically better than their original counterparts, but to find out why you should check out our full review and gallery after the jump. Just click “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums” at the bottom of this post to be taken to the full gallery and review thread.

We’ll be taking a week off from Toy Tuesdays next week as TokuNations begins it’s full coverage of San Diego Comic-Con 2014. So be sure to follow us @TokuNation on Twitter, @TokuNation on Instagram, ”Like” us on Facebook, and for easy-to-navigate coverage, click here to see ONLY our San Diego Comic Con 2014 coverage. And be sure to follow our coverage team “Kickback” @rankal on Twitter, “Den-O” @DenO_TokuNation on Twitter, and our good buddy “Deefuzz” @Deefuzz on Twitter.

Posted on July 11, 2014 at 12:54 pm by Den-O under Power Rangers

Thanks to Fury Diamond of Rangercrew once again for digging around the bowels of the internet to find new press photos of Power Rangers Legacy Titanus! This upcoming figure is expected to be released in Fall 2014 as a Toys ‘R’ Us Exclusive with a suggested retail price upwards of $200. Toy Tuesdays: Ultra-Act Ultraman Ginga Gallery

Posted on July 8, 2014 at 8:55 pm by Den-O under Ultraman

It’s time once again for TokuNation to plume the  depths of it’s newest segment, Toy Tuesdays! This time around we’re forgoing the spandex heroes and bug men in favor of the most venerable of toku hero franchise,s Ultraman! This week we spotlight the recently released Ultra-Act Ultraman Ginga!

Ginga is of course the titular hero of the Ultraman Ginga story featured in New Ultraman Retsudan! Returning soon in Ultraman Ginga S, this is the first collector’s style toy released from the first series. As a part of the long lived Ultra-Act line Ginga has had a lot to live up to, or rather he needed to live up to the quality of the more recent releases in the line. And does he ever! Ginga is by far one of the most dynamic entries in the line, this mold screams with personality.

Ginga is a little lite on the accessories, but as mentioned in our review of the figure, his most important accessory is actually all over his body. The Light Crystals mounted all over his body are fully removable, as are the head and shoulder pads, suggesting Bandai plans to release future accessory sets for Ginga’s other forms and powers! For once it seems Bandai/Tamashii Nations has really planned ahead with a new release. Depending on Ginga’s sales we could be in store for some great surprises in the future.

Click “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums” at the bottom of this post to enjoy a full 40 image gallery of this figure as well as a lengthy review. We’ll see you back here next week for another Toy Tuesdays gallery, S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider Black & Battle Hopper Renewal!

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Legacy Dragonzord Gallery!

Posted on July 7, 2014 at 1:59 am by Den-O under Power Rangers, Super Sentai

The long wait is over! After tons of anticipation and fan demand the mighty Legacy Dragonzord has finally been released! Though it’s been out for a little while now, this sought after piece tends to be hard to come by through regular retail. But TokuNation was lucky enough to get it’s hands on one for a full review & gallery!

The Legacy Dragonzord is of course an update the classic DX Dragonzord/Dragon Caesar toy from the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger  toylines! Released at physical retail exclusively through Toys ‘R’ Us this figure is already hard to find much like the Legacy Megazord. Which speaking of, this figure is compatible with the Megazord! The Dragonzord is a fierce machine on it’s own, but combining it with your MMPR 2010 or Legacy Megazords can create the Dragonzord Battle Mode and Mega Dragonzord, the second of which will prepare you for the upcoming Legacy Titanus!

This update to the 20+ year old Dragonzord toy has been long awaited by fans of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and of the original Green Ranger. So how exactly does this figure stack up to the classic? Read on to find out! And as a special mention for this gallery, TokuNation’s newest Photo & Content staff member ThatRangerGuy was kind enough to take a couple of comparison shots of the original DX Dragonzord & Legacy Dragonzord for us.

We’ve assembled a full review & gallery of this latest release in the Legacy toyline for you after the jump. Simply click “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums” at the bottom of this post to be taken to over 60 images and a step by step breakdown of this awesome toy!

Power Rangers Super Megaforce Q-Rex Megazord Gallery

Posted on July 5, 2014 at 12:58 am by Den-O under Power Rangers

Though we’re still several months away from the return of new Power Rangers Super Megaforce episodes on Nick, TokuNation has a little something to get you through this dry spell. Spotted recently at retail across the country and having finally been snagged by staff members we thought it was time to share with you the Q-Rex Megazord Gallery!

The Q-Rex is the personal Megazord of the Super Megaforce Silver Ranger! Sent from the future by the Time Force Rangers this machine can transform into it’s own Dinozord, Drill, & Megazord modes! A tribute to 3 past shows (Mighty Morphin Powers, Dino Thunder, & Time Force) this Megazord shares physical attributes with many of those Megazords that came before it. Like the Dragon Zord, Thundersaurus Megazord, or the original Q-Rex! Based on the DX Gozyujin toy from Bandai of Japan’s Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger line the Q-Rex puts it’s own spin on the design with the inclusion of Bandai of America’s Zord Builder system. With a plethora of these connectors & ports strategically placed through out, this toy will be a welcome addition to your collection.

After the jump we’ve assembled a lengthy review of this figure, exploring it’s many features and design elements. And we also have a 60+ image gallery for you to enjoy! If you’d like to take an up close look at the Q-Rex Megazord and see how it stacks up to it’s cousin, DX Gozyujin, then please click “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums” at the bottome of this post to be taken to our full gallery thread!
