SDCC 2015 White Ranger Tokyo Vinyl Figure Revealed

Posted on June 8, 2015 at 8:32 pm by Den-O under Power Rangers, San Diego Comic Con

Teased mere days ago in Bandai of America’s offerings for San Diego Comic-Con 2015, one of the mystery items has been officially unveiled!

For sale exclusively at the Bandai of America booth for SDCC 2015 is the White Ranger Tokyo Vinyl Figure! This figure will retail for the reasonable price of $25. With only 2 items yet to be officially revealed yet and the convention itself less than 1 month away we should see the rest of the reveals in the very near future!

POSSIBLE SDCC 2015 Exclusive Loyal Subjects Translucent Red Ranger

Posted on June 8, 2015 at 4:06 am by Den-O under Power Rangers, San Diego Comic Con

For now file this one under the maybe category.

Bandai of America revealed a cryptic teaser for their San Diego Comic-Con 2015 exclusives just last week. And while we have a good idea what those 4 items are (1 of them confirmed to be non-toku) we may have a new item in the mix. An ebay listing has just been discovered for what appears to be a Loyal Subjects Mighty Morphin Red Ranger vinyl cast in translucent red plastic. While we haven’t heard about this figure being available at SDCC yet, it could be a similar case to the translucent Ranger Keys that were passed out at the show last year where select attendees received them.

For now feel free to speculate on the claim that this is an SDCC 2015 figure. As a Loyal Subjects item it wouldn’t be part of BOA’s pre-show reveals so right now we have no way to confirm it’s validity. As SDCC approaches (July 9th-12th) news will begin to trickle out about the upcoming exclusives, as it does we’ll be there to share all the information with you! And be sure to follow TokuNation as we report LIVE from SDCC yet again!

Bandai of America Teases SDCC 2015 Exclusives – Internet Figures Them Out

Posted on June 3, 2015 at 12:55 am by Chris under Power Rangers, San Diego Comic Con

Did you know that San Diego Comic Con 2015 is barely a month away? We’re headed there once again for the third year in a row to give you the most in-depth coverage of everything at the show including interviews with Bandai of America and Saban Brands and other manufacturers of your favorite Power Rangers toys!

Today on Instagram, Bandai of America teased out four blacked out images stating that they will begin revealing the exclusives for this year’s SDCC later this week. But thanks to site contributor and Ranger Nation member @trekkieb47, we’ve been able to deduce exactly the four exclusive items that are coming from Bandai of America!

Now – we can’t say they’re confirmed, or at least, we can’t confirm the details. But we have a pretty good idea. They are as follows:

  • A Legacy Saba Sword repaint (most likely gold like every other Legacy item they’ve done)
  • A set of Ranger Keys (box is similar to last year’s set and the logo appears to be that of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers The Movie, making them Movie Ranger Keys?)
  • Another Tokyo Vinyl Pop figure, most likely the White Mighty Morphin Power Ranger (the last two years saw Mighty Morphin Red & Green)
  • A Doraemon figure (to which the Internet said “…a what?!”)

This marks the third year in a row where the Mighty Morphin Green Ranger and/or White Ranger has more or less dominated the exclusives, causing the fans to groan out once more, “STOP FOCUSING ON ONE CHARACTER FROM ONE SERIES OVER 20 YEARS AGO!”

What do you think of this year’s exclusives? Sound off in our discussion thread and make your predictions – see if you’re right or if we’re right!! Special thanks to Rangerboard.com for the better quality original teaser image!

Dragonzord vs. Megazord by Marcelo Matere and Tom Chu

Posted on September 10, 2014 at 1:15 pm by Chris under Conventions, Power Rangers, San Diego Comic Con

Back at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, I contacted a good, old friend of mine from my days in the Transformers community from working for a decade at our sister site TFW2005.COM. His name is Marcelo Matere, and if you are, or were, a Transformers fan then you’ve seen his work – whether it be in comic books from both Dreamwave and IDW Publishing, to official box art work for Hasbro and their Transformers product. Knowing he has tremendous skill in drawing anything robotic in nature, I commissioned from him a Power Rangers piece – the Dragonzord fighting the original Megazord. Using nothing but pictures of toys for references, he hit the project out of the park! I wasn’t the only one who was impressed – even Bandai of America was impressed with his artwork.

In case you don’t remember the original story with the actual sketch – you can find it by clicking here.

We are incredibly pleased and proud to reveal the final version of this beautiful piece of artwork colored by comic book colorist Tom Chu, who has worked on various projects for Marvel Comics, DC Comics, IDW Publishing, and Archie Comics, as well as independent comics and official products for major toy companies. You may recognize his name from our very own Talkin Toku Podcast which he co-hosts, as well as being one of our administrators here at TokuNation.com under the name Sentai Tamashii, or even on Twitter as @SoulInkChu.

I think you will agree with us that this is one of the most impressive pieces of artwork for the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers that we’ve ever seen. And we are beyond excited to share with you in future updates higher resolution versions of this image (minus our watermark) for use as wallpapers and other such things.

Please take a moment and follow these incredibly talented individuals and show their work some love. And, if you happen to want something awesome drawn for you or colored for you, please don’t be shy in asking them about their commission prices. I can personally guarantee that you won’t be disappointed in their work!!

S.H. Figuarts SDCC Armored Black Ranger Gallery

Posted on September 3, 2014 at 2:31 am by Den-O under Conventions, Power Rangers, San Diego Comic Con, Super Sentai

San Diego Comic-Con 2014 has come and gone, the TokuNation.com crew had a great time at the show, and of course we had to share a souvenir or two with you. So up today is our final entry (for now) in the long list of Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger/Mighty Morphin Power Ranger’s galleries we’ve worked on for the last year. Today we look at the 2014 Exclusive SDCC Armored Black Ranger!

A unique product of the “Zyu2” footage created for MMPR season 1, Armored Black Ranger is a very unique toy as well. This figure shares the honor of being one of only two truly US exclusive MMPR related figuarts released here, along with the female bodied Yellow Ranger. Created in response to the demands of the US market Armored Black Ranger is a fantastic release that continues the tradition of quality and excellence that the Zyuranger/MMPR line of S.H. Figuarts releases has had from the beginning. Likely the last releases in this particular franchise of figures, Armored Black Ranger ends it in style. This awesome yet briefly seen form from the finale of MMPR season 1 “An Oyster Stew” is incredibly satisfying to finally own. If you have the chance to pick this figure up, we highly recommend it.

To check out the full 60 image gallery of this fantastic release, just click “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums” at the bottom of this post. And while you’re at it, take a stroll down memory lane with us too! Introducing Marcelo Matere – Dragonzord vs Megazord Commission

Posted on August 14, 2014 at 12:43 am by Chris under Conventions, Power Rangers, San Diego Comic Con

If you’re a fan of Transformers then I don’t need to introduce you to Marcelo Matere because chances are you’ve already seen his work or you’ve met him personally at the various Transformers conventions. But if you’re not familiar with him or his work, please allow us the pleasure of introducing you!

Marcelo Matere has been a Transformers artist for over a decade now and has been working on official Hasbro products for years. Chances are you probably own a product that has his artwork as the packaging art. I personally have known Marcelo for many, many years now and consider him a dear friend. And I know just how amazing of an artist he is when it comes to drawing robots. So when I learned that he was going to be attending San Diego Comic Con 2014 I decided to see if he would do a commission work for me – I wanted to see how amazing he could make the Dragonzord and the original Megazord look as they engage each other in battle.

I was blown away as was everyone else I showed the artwork to – including Bandai of America. Even without the use of colors and just markers he managed to capture exactly what I wanted – an epic piece of artwork depicting everyone’s two favorite zords battling it out. Check out the image by clicking the news story.

Be sure to follow Marcelo Matere and let him know how much you love his work! I think everyone in Ranger Nation will agree – this guy needs to be doing professional work for Power Rangers!

– Follow Marcelo @marcelomatere on Twitter!
– Be sure to “Like” his work at Facebook.com/MarceloMatereArt
– Visit his professional website at www.marcelomatere.com
– Check out his Deviant Art profile at MarceloMatere.DeviantArt.com

A huge special thanks to our good friend Marcelo Matere who we got to spend some time with (but not nearly enough time) at this year’s San Diego Comic Con 2014. Please be sure to give this guy tons of love!
