Super Americana Magic Force Go! – Tokusatsu Tabletop RPG Kickstarter Game

Posted on October 20, 2018 at 1:19 pm by Chris under General Tokusatsu News, Power Rangers, Super Sentai

These days tabletop roleplaying games are all the craze in the tokustasu community. Recently, Sandy Pug Games introduced a Kickstarter campaign for their tabletop roleplaying game “Americana”, a tabletop game set in the 1950’s but with all your favorite fantasy races living normal everyday lives in 1950’s America. That Kickstarter campaign has already reached its funding goal so it will be released! But now, they’ve introduced one of their stretch goals – a tokusatsu themed expansion! Introducing Super Americana Magic Force Go!

“Americana Magic Force Go is a tokusatsu tabletop RPG setting, taking place in that same fantasy 1950s, but instead of investigating a murder, the party is a group of teenagers given the power of legendary mythical beasts, charged with battling the evil werewolf dictator Xueh, who intends to conquer the world and seize the minds of the Earth’s werewolf population from their massive battle station, hanging high above the Arctic.”

Americana Magic Force Go will be, if funded, a fully developed new setting with mechanics to match – mirroring classic tokusatsu shows and films with an awesome escalation mechanic, unique character generation mechanics and a fantastic enemy creation system to provide the meanest, most special foes for your team to combat!

As previously stated – the game is already 100% funded! This is a $10,000 stretch goal (as of the time of the post they are less than $2,300 away with 11 days to go). There are plenty of different tiers you can choose from with varying prices. If you are interested we encourage you to check out the project, the stretch goal, and to consider contributing!

Everyone at Sandy Pug Games is really excited to make this project a reality, and we’re really looking forward to the stories and worlds our fellow tokusatsu lovers make!

Click here to check out the Kickstarter and to make your pledge! Special thanks to Sandy Pub Games for reaching out and sharing this exciting project with us and the rest of the tokusatsu community! Check out Sandy Pub Games at the links below!

EDITOR’S NOTE: TokuNation.com normally does not endorse crowd-funding campaigns due to continued abuse from creators (the Power Rangers community has been taken for well over $100,000 over years in campaigns that became funded yet never delivered on promised content). However, an exception was made as Sandy Pub Games has items already released in the tabletop RPG community. As always, you pledge to projects at your own discretion and risk.

Toys R Us To Return As Geoffrey’s Toy Box

Posted on October 12, 2018 at 6:33 pm by Kiryu under General Tokusatsu News

Toys R Us is making a comeback! Sort of…in the aftermath of the beloved toy store’s bankruptcy, a new business venture has risen from the ashes and Geoffrey’s Toy Box may be coming to a store near you.

As reported by sister sites The Toy Ark and TFW2005, Geoffrey’s Toy Box will be a store-within-a-store concept akin to how companies like Samsung or Apple will have kiosks set up inside Best Buys and what not. This news comes after news broke out that plans to liquidate Toys R Us’ assets have halted, at the time of this writing there hasn’t been any news on when or where these stores within-a-stores will be popping up or in what capacity. The first batch of locations will be opening in November 2019.

While this seems like good news to some folks, do remember that Toys R Us’ closure left many people without jobs or severance in some cases, in addition to costing companies millions of dollars. Naturally, this move has raised a lot of eyebrows and questions in the collecting community. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on this story as more info becomes available. The Toys R Us Brand still continues to operate in Canada and some parts of Asia.

In the meantime, head on over to the discussion forums and let us know what you think about the toy retailer’s surprising return.

Bandai Namco Acquires Nippon “Bluefin” Imports!

Posted on September 21, 2018 at 9:33 am by Paladin under General Tokusatsu News

Exciting news for collectors this morning!

Bandai Namco Holdings has announced the acquisition of a controlling stake (80% of shares) in toy distributor Nippon Imports LLC– best known under their trade name Bluefin. A new subsidiary will be developed as a result- currently titled Bandai Namco Collectibles– and operations are tentatively scheduled to begin in January 2019.

The motive for this purchase is to strengthen Bandai’s merchandise sales in the North American toy market, taking advantage of Bluefins’ extensive experience with USA distribution and collector events.

This is definitely an exciting time for Bandai fans! A new deal could mean greater access to Japanese exclusives for US fans, OR some positive changes to current distribution methods.

Stay tuned to TokuNation as we keep you up to date on this exciting business deal!

Super Minipla King Gridman & Gridman Sigma Pre Order Info

Posted on September 20, 2018 at 12:30 am by Kiryu under General Tokusatsu News, Ultraman

ACCESS FLASH!

As you may recall, Bandai teased the release of a pair of Minipla: Dyna Dragon and Gridman Sigma way back at Summer Wonder Festival in July. It’s been some time since that event and seems like Super Minipla King Gridman & Gridman Sigma are both finally ready for production. Pre-order-links have gone up, and with that, we have a plethora of new images of what the colored product will look like.

Two options will be available: to pre-ordering Dyna Dragon on his own will run you 4,860 yen while the bundle with Gridman Sigma will cost 6,480 yen. Either way, both will be shipped out sometime in February 2019.

For those new to the fandom: Gridman Sigma is the proposed sequel series to Gridman and proposed ally of Gridman. Gridman Sigma would’ve been the alter ego of Takeshi Todo, a former villain in the previous series. The hero wouldn’t make his debut proper until the 2015 animated short: Gridman: Boys Invent Great Hero.

TokuNation Reviews Redman: The Kaiju Hunter Volume 1

Posted on September 13, 2018 at 9:50 am by Den-O under General Tokusatsu News, TokuNation, TokuNation Spotlights, Ultraman

“Reddo Fight!”

In 1972, Tsuburaya Productions commissioned a new spin-off from their popular Ultra Series. Curious, quirky, and quite violent, Redman joined the Nippon TV Ohayo! Kodomo variety show.  Serialized in 138 5-minute episodes, Redman faced off against countless Kaiju from across the various Ultra series which had aired by this time. Mercilessly, Redman would dispatch these Kaiju with little to no context outside of what magazine text stories and interviews could provide.

Flash forward to 2018, the superstar creative team of Matt Frank & Goncalo Lopes have resurrected this red warrior for a brand new series of Graphic Novels. The first of which, Redman: The Kaiju Hunter Volume 1, was recently released in July. Taking this obscure but classic character and helping to re-imagine his backstory as so much more than it was previously, Frank & Lopes have crafted a modern classic.

Here at TokuNation we were fortunate enough to be provided a promotional copy of Volume 1 for review.  Click “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums” at the bottom of this post and you can read our full review of Redman: The Kaiju Hunter! Let us know what you think of the series if you’ve had a chance to read it as well!
