Yet another year and another Tamashii Nations fall event have come and gone! As with every year there were more than a few surprises on display, the expected & unexpected, a few disappointments, line changes, and a few notable absences. As is usual the official @t_features twitter account has been tweeting out official images of many of the events’ reveals. And between that and a few stealthily taken pictures from the show we’ve compiled a list of every new and upcoming figure on display with images available:

This has been one great show this year! However the absence of Super Sentai figuarts & the smaller presence of Metal Heroes & other offbeat toku heroes is noticeable. So we’d like to know what are your thoughts on the showing from Bandai and Tamashii Nations this year? The first day of the show has wound down but Tamashii Nations 2015 will go on through this weekend. We’ve had a ton of reveals up to this point but a LOT more are apparently on the way as more sections of the show are made available to the general public. A portion of the rumored figures list comes from The Ghouly News, but still take it with a bit of salt as we can’t confirm some of these figures yet. Thanks to some teaser images released by Bandai we have at least a few confirmed things to look forward to:

A sad bit of news to report today. Noriyoshi Ohrai, who has contributed countless pieces of amazing pop culture art work to the tokusatsu fandom and various others through out his career, passed away today. He was 79.

Though his name may not be immediately recognizable to many, you’ve undoubtedbly encountered the work of Noriyoshi Ohrai in various forms. Whether it be his renditions of the original Star Wars Trilogy theatrical posters, his Metal Gear Solid illustrations, or the eight separate Godzilla film posters he did from 1980 onward. You have encountered the legacy of this legendary artist in one form or another.

We’ve attached a small selection of his various works to this story but we encourage you to head on over to the Noriyoshi Ohrai Exhibition Facebook page to see a multitude of his various works. Please take a moment to enjoy his amazing contributions as we remember him and appreciate the work that has touched so many of the fandoms that we’re all part of.

Change, 01!

TokuNation is back with the finale (for now) of it’s classic Showa Kikaider galleries! Kikaider 01 is finally complete with the S.H. Figuarts Double Machine!

Kikaider 01’s Double Machine is the successor to his brother the original Kikaiders’ Side Machine. A beast of a vehicle, the Double Machine dwarfs it’s predecessor and many other Figuarts bikes. It’s a big, beautifully sculpted and lavishly painted ride that will fit in perfectly with any Kiakider collection. So far the Double Machine is the final Kikaider release from Bandai in the S.H. Figuarts line but a number of other prototypes, primarily for Kikaider Reboot, have been shown off previously. So there is some hope that the line isn’t dead yet. But for now this is a magnificent send off for Kikaider fans.

People have asked for years about the generic bodied figures that Tamashii Nations has used in displays at various conventions. Well it looks like they need ask no more, as it appears a version of these figures will be made available to the general public!

The S.H. Figuarts Blank Bodies are just what the name implies. Blank slates with a full range of articulation and a wealth of accessories. These will be perfect bases for customizes to produce just about any male or female figure they choose. They even come in two different color options. The S.H. Figuarts Blank Bodies will be released in 4 varieties:

  • S.H. Figuarts Blank Body Gray Color DX (Male) – 6480 yen
  • S.H. Figuarts Blank Body Gray Color DX (Female) – 6480 yen
  • S.H. Figuarts Blank Body Pale Orange Color Version (Male) – 4320 yen

The DX sets in Gray will come with a plethora of accessories including 17 hands, a kitana, and even a unique Tamashii stage storage case. Meanwhile the Pale Orange sets will be cheaper and feature fewer accessories, each version only coming with 8 hands.

For those ambitious enough out there, and with the right skills, it looks like the gaps in your S.H. Figuarts collections may finally be filled with a little hard work!

Hail Hakaider!

We’re back with another blast from the past from Kikaider 01! But this time we’re taking a look at a massive release from this series. The Toei Hero Net Exclusive S.H. Figuarts Hakaider Squad!

The Hakaider Squad was created by Gill Hakaider in the opening moments of Kikaider 01 in order to finish taking over the world. A formidable team these beings were created from the brains of deceased DARK scientists. Each of the Hakaider Squad members also specializes in their own form of combat thanks to their personalized weapons. Red Hakaider wields the Missile Bowgun to take enemies down from a distance. Blue Hakaider makes use of his deadly Magnetic Whip to strangle foes. And lastly the Silver Hakaider has both long & short versions of his powerful Electron Staff!

The Hakaider Squad is an amazing trio of figures that finally gives your Hakaider &or Gill Hakaider an army to command. These 5 uses of the mold together make a truly amazing display. Bad news if you’re a fan of the quasi-toku franchise Pacific Rim. It was revealed today through a story in the Hollywood Reporter that an on-going battle between Legendary Pictures (the company that made the first Pacific Rim movie) and Universal (the company that distributed the movie) has put the sequel to the fan-favorite movie in to an indefinite halt in terms of production, with whispers that the movie may not get made period.

To recap – Pacific Rim finished its domestic earnings at $101.8 million dollars. However, the overseas market (and especially China) helped the movie earn worldwide a total of over $409 million dollars. Legendary Pictures has a lot of investment in the Chinese market and desperately wants a sequel to this movie made (because of the apparent cash cow it will become in the Chinese market). Universal, on the other hand, could care less about the overseas market and is more concerned about money, or the lack thereof, being brought in by recent releases from Legendary Pictures.

In short – it’s all about the money. Universal is unhappy with recent releases from Legendary Pictures, while Legendary Pictures wants more money chipped in (while cashing in on the Chinese market once the movie is released). Initially revealed way back in May at Tamashii Nations Summer Collection, the Tamashii Web Shop has just thrown up an official order page for S.I.C. Hakaider!

A companion piece to the S.I.C. Kikaider being released in October, this version of Hakaider seems to take after his Mechanical Violator incarnation. Hakaider looks to include 1 sets of additional hands, a swap out chest plate, and his Hakaider Shot handgun. S.I.C. Hakaider will be released as a Tamashii Web Exclusive in February 2016 for 7344 yen.

Bessatu Shonen Champion magazine has revealed it will begin publishing a new manga series based on Shotaro Ishinomori’s Robot Detective series from September 12th. What makes this more exciting is that it will be helmed by Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimaguchi – the writer/artist duo also behind the popular ongoing Ultraman manga series.

The Robot Detective manga had been previously announced at the beginning of 2014, alongside this promotional video from Toei.

The original television series ran in 1973 for a total of 26 episodes and starred the sharply dressed titular Robot Detective “K”. We’ll bring you more news on the new manga adaptation as it comes!
