S.H. Figuarts Kikaider 01’s Double Machine Gallery

Posted on October 22, 2015 at 10:17 pm by Den-O under General Tokusatsu News

Change, 01!

TokuNation is back with the finale (for now) of it’s classic Showa Kikaider galleries! Kikaider 01 is finally complete with the S.H. Figuarts Double Machine!

Kikaider 01’s Double Machine is the successor to his brother the original Kikaiders’ Side Machine. A beast of a vehicle, the Double Machine dwarfs it’s predecessor and many other Figuarts bikes. It’s a big, beautifully sculpted and lavishly painted ride that will fit in perfectly with any Kiakider collection. So far the Double Machine is the final Kikaider release from Bandai in the S.H. Figuarts line but a number of other prototypes, primarily for Kikaider Reboot, have been shown off previously. So there is some hope that the line isn’t dead yet. But for now this is a magnificent send off for Kikaider fans.

We’ve attached a selection of images to this post but you can check out the full 25+ image gallery of the S.H. Figuarts Double Machine by clicking “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums” at the bottom of this post. And please feel free to browse the previous Kikaider galleries we’ve posted! These will be perfect bases for customizes to produce just about any male or female figure they choose. They even come in two different color options. The S.H. Pacific Rim 2 Production Halted Indefinitely – May Not Happen At All

Posted on September 16, 2015 at 2:54 pm by Chris under General Tokusatsu News

Bad news if you’re a fan of the quasi-toku franchise Pacific Rim. It was revealed today through a story in the Hollywood Reporter that an on-going battle between Legendary Pictures (the company that made the first Pacific Rim movie) and Universal (the company that distributed the movie) has put the sequel to the fan-favorite movie in to an indefinite halt in terms of production, with whispers that the movie may not get made period.

To recap – Pacific Rim finished its domestic earnings at $101.8 million dollars. However, the overseas market (and especially China) helped the movie earn worldwide a total of over $409 million dollars. Legendary Pictures has a lot of investment in the Chinese market and desperately wants a sequel to this movie made (because of the apparent cash cow it will become in the Chinese market). Universal, on the other hand, could care less about the overseas market and is more concerned about money, or the lack thereof, being brought in by recent releases from Legendary Pictures.

In short – it’s all about the money. Universal is unhappy with recent releases from Legendary Pictures, while Legendary Pictures wants more money chipped in (while cashing in on the Chinese market once the movie is released). A special thanks to ScreenCrush.com for their interpretation of the original article.

Are your hopes crushed? Or could you care less? Sound off in discussion!

New Robot Detective manga to start in September

Posted on August 14, 2015 at 12:49 pm by ZeoRangerV under General Tokusatsu News

Bessatu Shonen Champion magazine has revealed it will begin publishing a new manga series based on Shotaro Ishinomori’s Robot Detective series from September 12th. What makes this more exciting is that it will be helmed by Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimaguchi – the writer/artist duo also behind the popular ongoing Ultraman manga series.

The Robot Detective manga had been previously announced at the beginning of 2014, alongside this promotional video from Toei.

The original television series ran in 1973 for a total of 26 episodes and starred the sharply dressed titular Robot Detective “K”. We’ll bring you more news on the new manga adaptation as it comes!

Japan Local Hero Great Battle Film Announced!

Posted on August 1, 2015 at 2:14 pm by Den-O under General Tokusatsu News

This is definitely an interesting one. While TokuNation can’t always cover the numerous Local Heroes (gotchi heroes) of Japan, we do on occasion try to bring you as much information on the larger projects as possible. Well this is quite possibly the largest Local Hero project since the ambitious Fire Leon franchise! Announced today is the Nihon Local Hero Daikessen film (Japan Local Hero Great Battle) which was recently crowdfunded into production!

Unlike the annual Super Hero Taisen films produced by Toei, this film seeks to be unify the various Local Heroes of Japan with a theme of friendship. Admittedly there are so many local Japanse heroes I doubt we’d be able to run down the whole list of those appearing in the movie, but it looks like many major and popular regional favorites such as the cast of Yatsurugi, Ibaraiga, Cosmo Flasher, & MANY more will appear!

Nihon Local Hero Daikessen is set for release on November 14th!

S.H. Figuarts Gill Hakaider Gallery

Posted on July 27, 2015 at 12:47 am by Den-O under General Tokusatsu News

The long wait is over! With SDCC News and updates out of the way it’s time for TokuNation to return to it’s regularly scheduled programming of new toy galleries! First up on the chopping block our long overdue look at the villain of the classic tokusatsu series Kikaider 01. The evil mastermind behind SHADOW, it’s S.H. Figuarts Gill Hakaider! Gill Hakaider is of course the second character to bear the Hakaider name. A new version of the cyborg created using the evil Professor Gill’s own brain, this creature would be the arch nemesis of Kikaider’s older brother Kikaider 01!

In figure form Gill Hakaider is very similar to the previously released Hakaider with a few key differences. Primarily newly painted face details as well as the Hakaider emblem emblazoned on his chest. Though the biggest differences would the inclusion of Gill’s mechanical mind controlling flute staff as well as his cape! Though the cape is more generally associated with his anime counterpart, it’s an incredibly cool bonus to get here.

While we’ve attached a selection of images to this post, check out over 50 images of S.H. Figuarts Gill Hakaider included several with his namesake Hakaider as well as the Kikaider brothers after the jump. We’ll revisit the Kikaider world again in the coming months with a gallery of Kikaider 01’s Double Machine!

S.H. Figuarts Kikaider 01 Gallery

Posted on June 29, 2015 at 10:27 pm by Den-O under General Tokusatsu News

Change! Kikaider 01!

We’re back, with yet another figure from a toku classic! We’ve slowly been working our way through S.H. Figuarts released from the Kikaider franchise, and today we’re taking a look at yet another. Kikaider 01’s titular hero, S.H. Figuarts Kikaider 01!

Kikaider 01, Ichiro, is the older brother of the original Kikaider Jiro. Dr. Komyoji’s original prototype, 01 is a bit more emotional as his conscience circuit was actually completed. He’s also unique in that he was solar powered. The figuart sets itself apart from the first Kikaider by actually being a well made toy. Seriously, Kikaider 01 is a vast improvement over Kikaider with some solid articulation & much better QC. Overall it’s just a much better release and shows that Bandai finally found their footing with this subline.

We’ve attached a selection of images to this post but check out a full 40 image gallery as well as a complete review after the jump! And check in with us next time as we take a look at another classic from the Kikaider franchise with Kikaider 01’s nemesis, S.H. Figuarts Gill Hakaider!

S.H. Figuarts Hakaider’s White Crow Gallery

Posted on June 18, 2015 at 11:39 pm by Den-O under General Tokusatsu News

“I will take your life.”

The evil Hakaider is one of the most memorable villains in tokusatsu history. A villainous foil in one form or another to every version of Kikaider ever, Hakaider simply wouldn’t be complete with out an awesome ride at his disposal. So today we’re taking a look back at a recent Tamashii Web Exclusive release with the S.H. Figuarts White Crow!

As Hakaider’s personal machine, White Crow is emblazoned with his emblem. However the rest of the bike is very much like the vehicle it’s based on, a 1972 Kawasaki H1 Mach III. But that doesn’t diminish just how gorgeous it looks in silver paint, or how awesome Hakaider looks while riding. As with the previous Kikaider vehicle release in this line, Side Machine, the White Crow include licensed decals, in this case a set of fully licensed Kawsaki labels!

Check out a full gallery & review of S.H. Figuarts White Crow after the jump. And check back in for our next exciting kikaider themed gallery with S.H. Figuarts Kikaider 01!
