You may have heard of a little film called Pacific Rim by Guillermo del Toro which sees the return of the Daikaiju genre to the west! Exciting news indeed for kaiju and mecha fans far and wide. However, have you heard of the tentatively titled Atlantic Rim/From the Sea?
Well mockbuster production company The Asylum (infamous for such borderline knockoff films as Snakes on a train, The Day The Earth Stopped, Transmorphers, Titanic II, Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus, and much more) is busy producing this latest entry. Shooting has begun for the film in the Pensacola, Florida area and walks the line of the plot for Pacific Rim. As told by the films Second Unit Director:
The storyline is that these monsters come from the sea. The sea floor opens up and these things come out. They terrorize the East Coast from Miami to Washington D.C., and the good guys send them back packing.
The Asylum is notorious for their almost exclusively straight to DVD films, their ongoing legal battles with major studios, and their tendency to walk the line of legality when making these mockbusters.

Do you need a dose of new Toku in your life? Well here it is! In the 70’s Shotaro Ishinimori created a rough sketch and background for a new character called Tetsu Majin Shadoru for a TV series. Eventually this design morphed into what came to be Chojin Bashan from the Chojin Bibyun TV series.
In 2004 the Ishinimori Manga Museum created a full suit out of the original unused design to have on display and dubbed it Sea Jetter Kaito! The design was popular enough that a short manga was launched and Kaito became the local/regional hero of the Miyagi Prefecture! That popularity lead to the Ishinimori Museum creating this full live action film of the character titled Sea Jetter Kaito! It will be exclusively shown at the Inshinimori Manga Museum beginning March 23rd.
The film itself will star Yuki Satoh who fans may recognize as none other than Kamen Rider Gattack! The theme of the film, also called “Sea Jetter Kaito”, will be sung by Masaki Endou with insert themes “The Immortal Hero Sea Jetter Kaito” by Hironobu Kageyama and “Fight!! Sea Jetter Kaito” by Ichiro Mizuki!
Production Staff:
Director: Hidenori Ishida (Kamen Rider Kuuga, Kamen Rider Ryuki, Kamen Rider Kabuto: God Speed Love)
Script: Riku Sanjo (Kamen Rider W, Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger)
Producer: Jun Hikasa (Kamen Rider Blade, Engine Sentai Go-Onger, Unofficial Sentai Akibaranger) and Naomi Takebe (Kamen Rider Kiva, Kamen Rider OOO, Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters)

Total Film has posted an exclusive look at new Pacific Rim Concept Art. The images are from the newest issue of Total Film(#204), which is out now. We’ve mirrored the images here. The rest of the concept art(along with an interview) is in the magazine itself. Here’s more info about the images:
You can see two of those exclusive pieces by Doug Williams right here. The first puts the overwhelming scale of the Jaegers into perspective, as a Russian collosus stands guard, dominating the skyline. The second features a freaky Skull Temple that’s fused with its derelict urban surroundings.

Kamen Rider or Super Sentai not your thing for heroes? Then good news everyone! It has just been announced that a new alternative tokusatsu will be produced by Bushiroad, the company responsible for the popular Cardfight Vanguard anime/CCG. The new show will be titled Fire Leon! Currently it looks like the show will begin airing this April and star pro-wrestler Kazuchika Okada.
However this show will not exclusively feature its’ titular character, Fire Leon. This show is meant to be a dream team-up of sorts for the various Local Heroes of Japan! All across Japan small towns and areas have their own locally produced toku heroes, characters who promote the area and bear appearances that honor their towns. Some even make it to local television and film! Fire Leon will feature cameos and guest appearances by Local Heroes from all across Japan!!
Much like Cardfight Vanguard, Fire Leon will have it’s own collectible card game also produced by Bushiroad. The CCG will also feature Japans’ various local heroes!
